  1. Nothing like spoiling the plot for me! I wasnt able to record any of them.....Hopefully I'll forget by the next run.......
  2. I missed Ann Harding? Do you remember what film it was? (Hopefully, I've seen it......)
  3. Yeah, bring on Charlie Chan! (Sigh) If Fox wont show them, let TCM........I knew there was something I forgot to do last night (record!)
  4. What happened in '83 to cause the "new" era to end?
  5. Now that you've jogged my memory, I think I've seen one of them (cant remember which one) will try to record a few.......
  6. I'm not familiar with this series, but noticed it on the sched. Is he a detective? Wish I had more room on my DVR to sample them........
  7. I know Klute has been shown in the last 10 years during Oscar month overnight. Not sure about the others.......(in the last 10 years)........
  8. I'm pretty sure most of the films (if not all) on your want to see list have been shown on TCM, though not very often Klute has been shown several times (unfortunately always on the graveyard shift due to the language...) I'm pretty sure Late Show, Fedora and Time After Time have been shown too.......
  9. No, but I've heard about it. Apparently no copies exist (wish someone would happen upon one!) I'm sure it's tame by today's standards, but I'm sure it's interesting. I think Joan Blondell, Mary Astor and Guy Kibbee are among the cast (that I remember).......
  10. I may have seen that one. A lot of her films run together with me. She didnt have too many A list projects after she left Warners though she kept working till 45 or 46.......
  11. Keep in mind they made two to three times as many films in the 20s,30s,40s then they do now. So it stands to reason there would be more "classic" material..........
  12. LOL. Well Citizen's Band would be one. I'm not saying show every 70s movie. Quality. A lot of movies released in the 70s didnt make a lot of money. It was a transitional time for the movies.........Doesnt mean they were bad movies.......
  13. That's not always true. A lot of times small, independent films dont find an audience or a distributor doesnt distribute it much or advertise because they dont think it will make enough money. Many films (often critically acclaimed) never find an audience.............
  14. While it's true Hollywood only filmed the first half of Wuthering Heights (the 30s version), it isnt an overly long novel. They chose to emphasize the first half and skip the second.......
  15. There are plenty of films from the 70s that I never got to see (due to brief distribution or not playing in my area) that I would love TCM to show. Or films I saw once that never pop up on tv anywhere else......
  16. Thanks for updating the schedule. Gish day looks good, but I'm disappointed in Kay Francis. Same old WB films they always show. Was hoping for some of her Paramount pre-codes. Was hoping something new for Irene Dunne too. Oh well. Warren William looks good........
  17. Was he in love with repeated takes a la Wyler? (I've never read about his technique) I remember Joan complaining about doing endless takes for a scene in Something because he couldnt get an effect with a window curtain in the background to his liking..........
  18. I take it you dont like Jean Arthur? Shame! I've never been wild about Giant (too long) but most of his others I've liked (have never sat through Greatest Story or seen his last, Only Game in Town) I think this film is forgotten as it flopped badly...........
  19. Yeah, I remember all the turmoil MGM went through. Such a shame. DIdnt have to happen. You must mean Star! or some other film, not My Fair Lady which was produced at WB.......
  20. Yeah, that's true. Till Jack Warner sold out in 1967..........
  21. I agree with many of the opinions here. It was a long drawn out process and I dont think you can point to any one film or year. It started with the S.C. decision that decreed the studios had to divest themselves of their theater chains in the late 40s. Then the rise of TV soon after. The studios were slowly dying in the 50s (and several really did, like RKO) Then the decline and fall of MGM, the Cleopatra debacle etc. in the 60s. By the early 60s there were few contract players anymore and projects were put together by agents/independent producers with the studios releasing the product. By the mid to late 60s everything totally changed. With the decline of roadshow musicals and sex and violence in films..........
  22. I havent seen the film but I remember Joan panning the film in her memoirs and relating how Stevens made them do take after take of scenes........I would like to see it anyway. I think TCM has shown it before.......
  23. I wouldnt call Joanne Woodward's character Eve insane, though it appears at times she is. She has a personality disorder.... Edited by: Hibi on May 21, 2012 3:15 PM
