  1. Oh, that was her! I thought she was in the movie............
  2. AMEN. Mary Astor too (Oscar winner!) Supporting players and second leads dont get their due.........
  3. I'm sure there are. Like the Selznicks.........
  4. So would I. But sadly, it seems TCM considers her a supporting player and not worthy.
  5. Yeah, but could he be counted on for the pricey financial support? LOL......
  6. Yes. for some odd reason they made them brothers. Also Rossi was a doctor, not a teacher in the tv series. Other characters were added/dropped (Selena and her crowd got the axe entirely) and the time period was updated to the present.........I remember Mrs. Harrington (who wasnt in the film) died early in the show with some cryptic reply - Can you ever forgive me?. And for years later, whenever some mystery was revealed it was always blamed on her. (LOL)........ Now that I think of it, Matt Swain had a career change too. I think he ran the newspaper in the show, he wasnt a doctor (they had Rossi for that!) Edited by: Hibi on May 2, 2012 9:36 AM
  7. No, that was Betty Field. (in the film)
  8. Interesting connection to both films (I hadnt realized before) Betty Field was in both films playing mothers to Kim Novak and Hope Lange.......
  9. I think SOTM started from the get go, but I'm not sure. (I had to wait a year or so before I got TCM)Posters have posted SOTM lists in the past. I'm not sure anyone has a complete list. You might try searching for them. There are still plenty of stars who havent been chosen SOTM and deserve to be. Charles Boyer, Jennifer Jones. I dont think Lillian Gish has been chosen (but I could be wrong) Gloria Swanson, Richard Widmark etc........Just about every star at Fox, due to the Fox channel, but that seems to be changing a bit as Fox films are starting to appear on TCM..... 10. Thanks for those beautiful vids. They get more snow there than I realized. I guess the railway gets a lot of usage during those periods. Are you from there?
  11. I dont like it. But who am I? (LOL).......
  12. LOL. She wasnt known for dressing well or housekeeping.............
  13. Yes, I noticed that in the write up. Good idea!
  14. Does it snow in Odessa? Or is it too warm? I'd hate to be on shoveling detail for those........
  15. One gets tired just looking at them (LOL).......
  16. I dont mind a certain amount of "modern" films being shown on TCM (I'm not sure where to draw the line) but I'm more irritated by the constant repeating of films within a short period. I think Cape Fear (original version) was shown 3 times in less than a month recently. Plus the perennial NBNW and Dr. Zhivago that are constantly on.....I know TCM is probably trying to save money, but still......
  17. WOW! Impressive set of stairs.......
  18. It seemed like the picnic scenes in Peyton Place were ripped off from Picnic. Didnt Picnic come out first? I didnt think those scenes were needed at all.......
  19. Yes, I read the bio about Grace. I dont remember it inferring she was a lesbian. (She did have 3 kids, but that doesnt mean anything). The locals resented the book because they assumed it was all about them. I think she got a perverse kick about living there after that. I know her success fueled her drinking problems and, of course she could never top it......I think she went through whatever money she made from it......
  20. They dont always do birthday triibutes either........so I'm sure it wasnt meant as a slight......
  21. LOL. She wound up in AIP films. Sad.........
  22. I think the film was a hit pre-Johnny S. but it cashed in even more after that. I enjoyed seeing it again, though it IS LONG. Love the beautiful outdoor shots and the score....I always liked Diane Varsi. A shame she left Hollywood, but I guess she wasnt happy. I think she was also in Compulsion and 10 North Frederick. She came back in the late 60s but she wasnt able to reignite her career. I think the most noteworthy film from that period was Johnny Got His Gun........Always wanted to read the book, but never have. Grace M. had a rather tragic life and died young (an alcoholic)........I remember watching the tv show, but they changed a lot of stuff (Selena and her family were completely eliminated. Too hot for tv, I guess) Wonder how different the movie was from the book?
  23. LOL. I wont be watching so I dont care who plays her. I'm sure it'll be terrible........
