  1. Yes, I remember all the hoopla about Hayward in Mame (Vegas version) but I'm hazy on the details. I think she had to drop out or something. I dont think it ran long. I cant really picture her in the part, but her singing voice wasnt bad (sometimes she was dubbed, but they did use her voice in films, cant remember which one or ones right now......) I think the show was truncated as well (cant keep them too long from the gambling tables.......) I think they used her real voice in I'll Cry Tomorrow....... Edited by: Hibi on Mar 8, 2012 3:59 PM
  2. ****! I remember that cape. Phyllis Diller and Liberace on the same stage. A press agents dream! LOL.
  3. LOL! True. Christina made millions from lemons.........
  4. LOL. I'll never forget that pic of him in Hot Pants in one of his Vegas shows. Was in all the newspapers......
  5. I'd forgotten about Marriage-Go-Round. That must've been a dud at the box office.....didnt Claudette Colbert star in the Broadway version? Were Bogie and Bacall to star in TSA? Marriage-Go-Round came out around 1960. Bogie was long dead..........
  6. I doubt it...........May add a few more million to the coffers........
  7. IT's too bad WB didnt realize what they had. They threw her in anything (kinda like Bette Davis in her early years) I've seen her in some real dogs. She got fed up and moved to England (think she got married). Came back after the war, but by then she had to make do with supporting parts......
  8. I thought she deserved the nomination more for Revolutionary Road, but I was impressed by both performances. Liked both movies (talk about downbeat! LOL)
  9. So do I. (LOL) A guilty pleasure. Takes me back to my childhood when they were shown on tv all the time........(SPREAD OUT!)
  10. Damn! It was on yesterday? BUMMER!
  11. I didnt like Titanic either, but Winslet is good. She's had many great roles......that one Liitle Children or something like that and others........(saw those two you mentioned).......Sense and Sensibility.........
  12. THAT's the movie I was thinking about! Dunno what made me think of Jeff Chandler........
  13. Some. She had a supporting part in I Married A Witch. She was in The Honey Pot. I remember some film with Jeff Chandler.....
  14. YES! My Reputation is one of my favorite Stanwyck films. And it was released within a year or two of BYOOL........
  15. Ahh Liberace. LOL. Has TCM ever showed this? I would love to see it. I remember his tv show as a kid with the candelebras on the piano (LOL).......Thought his name was odd!
  16. Dunne would've probably been better casting, but Stanwyck did play sympathetic mothers.......
  17. Stanwyck played a similar type role (to Nora Charles) in the Mad Miss Manton and played it well. What Loy brought to BYOOL was her "good wife persona" that she played in many films. It wasnt a great part and any number of actresses could've played it, Colbert included.......
  18. LOL (pic) People (particularly famous ones) dont always act the same way behind closed doors as they do in public. Christina's brother backed up her claims (while he was alive). I found it interesting in The Will episode last year on the DatelineID channel one of her teachers backed up her story also from that period in her life. It cant all be lies........I've no doubt the motive was revenge, but if the stories are true, I cant really blame her.........particularly after that "For reasons known to them..." None of her kids got much money, it was all left to charity. One of the daughters even had to go on Welfare and the other sold her Oscar to get some money. Charity begins at home, Joan........
  19. I dont see any reason why Babs couldnt have handled Loy's role in BYOOL. Maybe not Harlows, but who could??
  20. Not to take away from the Shermans but Chim Chim Cher-ee or however you spell it, has to be one of Oscar's worst best song choices. What else was up that year?
