Dont think the story would work well in a contemporary setting. They'd have to completely redesign the project. Even then I think it would come off more like a tv movie..........

LOL. Jonny. I dont remember but it's been a long time since I read it. SPOILER ALERT: The movie ended with the narration giving the impression he got his sight back. I dont think that happened in the novel.......

I havent read the novel for many years, but it seemed to me like they sugar coated the ending for the film in the narration wrap up. I seem to remember the novel ended on a more somber note..... Overall they did a good job with the adaptation. They left out one stretch I think before Jane got to her position (which was in the tv adaptation with George C. LOL. Maybe that's how she got the job??? That's one problem when filming a stage musical/play. In stage acting you play to the balcony, but for the camera you have to tone it down. You have to find the right balance...........

I noticed the dialog was hard to decipher in a few scenes, but I havent seen the film in years, so I wasnt aware of the score tampering. Weird. Despite RO touting Jane being a TCM premiere, I still say I saw it years ago on TCM..........

Reality shows seem to be the new soap operas (prime time version) which are quickly dying out. I can only hope the same fate for reality shows. There isnt one network series I watch anymore.......

A career highlight on the stage..........

Stars today are different from stars in Hollywood's heyday. Not to say they are less talented, just different. So are the stories, technology etc. The star system that built stars back then no longer exists or the studios they worked in. Lighting, make-up, even the film medium (black and white mostly) were different. Plus the fan mags and studio publicity machines that protected stars no longer exists......

If TCM devoted a night or day of this, it would bother me. But an occasional foray into another medium for a SOTM doesnt bother me. Gives some insight to how they perform in other venues, particularly if it's a noteworthy role (neither of which was the case for Grace Kelly....I think they just needed to pad out her SOTM air time.......) I didnt take it that way. I dont think she meant it like that, but I'd have to listen to it again. Didnt she say in the same interview she'd be remembered for Jessica Fletcher whatever roles she may have played elsewhere? I know she's said that in interviews. And she's right there. When they do her tv obits they will play that up more so then her other roles as more people know her for that......
