LOL. I guess he was, Jonny (Hughes) He directed most of their episodes. Didnt know Johanna and the sailor (cant remember HIS name now...) were married. Loved him, not so much her.......guess it wore on their nerves........ Oddly, Hearn and Lansbury were nominated in the same category (no differentiation between actor/actress) so, of course Hearn won. He had the more difficult (and larger) part........Angela still remains a bridemaid at the Emmies (no lifetime achievement award either.....)

Kyle, I believe Angela meant it would be the STAGE role she'd be remembered for because it's the only one they filmed, not her career as a whole..........
-
Count me (unintentional pun!) as another Frye fan. Cant think of Dracula w/out him! How sad he died so young. DIdnt know that.........I found him very attractive too.........
-
I noticed it's Joan night tonight! I havent seen Jane Eyre in a long time. Unsure if I'll sit through Constant Nymph again (as I recorded that in Sept)...........

Terry Hughes.

In regard to the last bow, Angela got top billing despite Sweeney being the dominant part because she was the big box office draw for the show. Despite the critical acclaim and awards, the show was a hard sell. Once she left the show (granted Cariou did too) the box office crashed and it closed a few months later. I'm sure if she hadnt agreed to the tour, they probably wouldnt have had one.........Cariou, despite his talent, wasnt really a marquee draw..........

Not at all. LOL. I dont remember an outcry like this when TCM showed several old tv shows Grace Kelly appeared in when she was SOTM some years back. What's the difference?
-
We're glad you're glad. LOL. I wouldnt have minded a showing of Beauty and the Beast, as I've never seen it. TCM showed a televised version of a Broadway musical. The world didnt end. I had a great time..........

There was another thread but it got locked! (LOL)......

Was the production scaled down for the touring version?
-
Oh, I agree. I'm sure Joan was directed that way. I've never seen Secret Behind the Door. The only Lang/Bennett collaboration I havent seen......... In the remake the mother was more isolated and it was done more as a straight thriller, so it worked that way (she wasnt under the microscope as much as in Ophuls version.....). Yes, it didnt play around here (we do get films like this out in the sticks, though it takes awhile.....) And what happened to that "Shame" actor? And the actor in Taking Shelter (not sure if that was the exact title) was also worthy..........
-
LOL. Of course I know who HE is. I was annoyed Sprocket Man felt the need to correct my misspelling........
-
George Hearn was the star of the touring production (which this was) I think he replaced Cariou late in the Broadway run (I think anyway). Cariou is on the original cast recording. But Hearn is good also. Was so happy to see this again. Hadnt seen it since its original airing on PBS decades ago....Cant believe people got so bent out of shape about TCM airing this......

Who's he?
-
Another one gone. He was in one of Richard Rogers last musicals, Rex, on Broadway. Remember him in Robin and Marian too........
-
That's good to know. I recorded it to watch later and when I did, the ending was cut off! (doubt it was more than a minute or so.......)

Shoddy scheduling is a sign of incompetence and laziness.

I can understand the viewer's frustration as it happens to me too sometimes (last week with Diary of a Chambermaid which went over. Surprised there wasnt a thread about that movie as it was a TCM premiere?) How are we to know when a movie runs over if its on overnight or not even watching the station? The ending was cut off. (I dont think I missed much) I was asleep at the time. Like I could've circumvented that??? -
I know. Very odd.

They better not be! LOL.
-
I hope it's on early? I dont have room on my DVR to record it! Yes, it was broadcast on PBS years ago. (Havent seen it since then) Was done when they were playing in the show in LA........
-
Yes. 50/50 got stiffed totally. I figured it would. Loved the movie............He did a great job. If they are going to expand the best picture category, why not best actor/actress too then? Makes no sense.....
-
Thanks for informing me. I had not seen his name in other lists or prize winners from the end of the year. I figured it must be a film that played in LA to qualify.........
