I would probably watch if it was a movie I really wanted to see, but the bloom would definitely be off. I doubt I'd watch as much as now. It would depend a lot on what type of commercials and how they were placed. I'd much rather pay an extra fee to keep them off.............
-
I dont know how to take that. Are you tall or short? LOL.
-
Yes. True. Keeper of the Flame is another one........
-
Yes. I could accept commercials between movies on TCM, but if they start doing them in the film itself it's over...........I could also accept TCM as a pay cable station, depending on how much they charged. But if they go the AMC route, it's over.........

I've met Alexis Smith, Petula Clark, Chita Rivera after shows. All were very nice.......

Having a picture in picture function and/or remote handy helps. I cant stand commercials (especially if there are 5 mins of them in a row) Sometimes I will toggle back and forth between 2 different programs and wind up watching both (tho not usually simultaneously there is some lag time where you can still watch the program after the other one if it is running) or I will just channel surf till the commercials are over.....

The state of both unions so to speak!
-
Anyone catch State of the Union last night??? This was the first time I've seen the movie all the way through (this type of movie never appealed to me.....) Although the ending was typical Hollywood flag waving (the American way!) I enjoyed it (although there were some gag inducing moments) Sadly, the story is still typical today. I was amazed how compelling Angela was in her role. Only 22, but playing a woman much older and really nailing the part. I thought she deserved an Oscar nomination for this role (she didnt get one) than the more one dimensional role in Gaslight........... Interestingly this wasnt meant to be a Tracy/Hepburn picture. Claudette Colbert either was fired or walked out (cant remember which) over a salary dispute and Hepburn agreed to be a last minute replacement. I can see Claudette in the role, but Hepburn was a good fit too......

LOL. Midnight. I remember Search and Light being 15 mins apiece and the organ music! My grandmother and mother watched those shows (I remember Joanne Tate and Bert.......) I can remember prompters too when actors forgot lines (they were live, I guess).........Back in those days stories were character driven. Now it's over the top crazy storylines and bedhopping.......
-
Are those shows still on? LOL.

Hey, dont rail at me. I'm not crying any tears over One Life to Live........(and I love jazz too!)

I have no interest in watching any lifestyle/reality show. Thank God for cable! I have no experience with OLTL. I did watch Young and Restless for awhile but the writing and plots just got too much for me. I found myself ffing through 90% of the show.............

I dont think there will be any soaps in another 5 years. Ratings keep dropping and they are expensive to produce. Talk/reality shows are cheaper to produce even if the ratings are low. Has anyone tried watching a soap lately? The plots are so ridiculous.........the audiences are more sophisticated now and have other choices........ Edited by: Hibi on Jan 11, 2012 11:08 AM

I've met several stars over the years. Touring in shows. You will love this, but I met our SOTM, ANGELA LANSBURY!!!!!! Many years ago. She was touring in a summer stock version of Gypsy (after her Tony award winning stint in the Broadway revival) I had written her beforehand in care of the theater to ask if I could see her before or after the show. To my amazement she must've remembered, as her hubby allowed me into the trailer. I remember her being extremely tall, and I wasnt prepared for being in such close quarters with her. I remember babbling a few questions and her answering and I left. I was so nervous I forgot to ask for her autograph. I remember I was the only person that went in, so I was pretty proud of that. I'm sure I'd be less nervous nowadays though.

Oh, how sad. I didnt know that she died. Yes, she did create a role for her on the show to keep her working.........
-
LOL. She was tall. Hawks originally wanted Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn for the roles but they both turned him down.........
-
I hope they named a building after her...........
-
The answer is YES in all 3 categories. Few people are still actively working at her age as well (70 years in the business)......... I dont think there is any tie in. I think her longevity and the fact she's still part of "the scene", is well known/liked and they have easy access to her films all played a part in her selection.... Have always liked Paulette Goddard. She seems so modern in looks and manner. Her personality always shows through in her performances. Maybe not a great actress but a fun one.......

What BS. Betty White is a living legend, but Angela Lansbury is not? But I thank you for the heads up on MSW. I wasnt aware it was back on again!

Didnt realize he had been in The Detective. I remember seeing him on Murder, She Wrote a couple times........ Edited by: Hibi on Jan 6, 2012 1:33 PM

Interesting. Thanks. I remember reading long ago somewhere that all her films lost money. So it's not true.
-
Agree. Hatfield is the weak link in the film.......

Loved it! Wish it had been longer. I missed part of the beginning, but luckily TCM reran it later. I'd forgotten he had shot War and Peace..........
