Sounds like I'll be speeding through Five and Ten. That was one of the movies I was recording. Did anyone watch Floradora Girl? That was another one......I think the only sound film I've seen of hers (in toto) was Going Hollywood.........
-
I think it's a good idea TCM is trying to branch out, rather than repeating the same 2 dozen or so MGM/WB stars constantly...............

WTH? What was so politically offensive about Murder, She Wrote that this person refused to visit his mother? ****!
-
I'm not sure of the title, but Dirk Bogarde was in it. The title might be Our Mother's House or something similar. I've never seen it, but TCM has shown it a few times..........

ALERT: Rarely shown classic on right now on TCM-"The Heiress"(1949)

I've noticed TCM has been repeating films a lot lately. Wasnt Close Encounters just on a few weeks ago (before last week?)........ Oops. I see someone had already pointed this out........... Edited by: Hibi on Jan 3, 2012 11:03 AM -
That's ok with me!

For anyone interested. They are showcasing her all day today (must be her birthday). I'm recording a few of her films to watch later (I've only seen a few of her silents...)

I think Angela Lanbsbury's career speaks for itself. She may not have been a movie star in the strict sense, but her resume qualifies her for SOTM imo. I hope this turns out to be a trend and we will see people like Joan Blondell and others as SOTM in the future......I remember they had to pad out Grace Kelly's month with some of her tv appearances.....There are many actor/actresses that may not have been "stars" in films, but have had long careers in films that could be showcased.........
-
I hope they do show Storm Warning. I think it's the only Doris Day film I've never seen.......and no, I dont think they showcase her too much. She's one of the few surviving big stars from the studio era..... According to some sources she will be 90 this year........(some list her birthdate as 1922, some 1924) Edited by: Hibi on Jan 3, 2012 9:35 AM Edited by: Hibi on Jan 3, 2012 1:41 PM

Being an offspring of a famous actor may open a few doors, but you still have to deliver the goods. She wouldnt have made it, if she didnt have talent............in some ways people's expectations are higher........

LOL. I wish people would get as upset with what's going on in Washington as they get about what Jane Fonda did 40 years ago............. Edited by: Hibi on Dec 22, 2011 3:13 PM

AMEN. Use your remote.

Charade was filmed long after Vertigo. It was seeing Diabolique that influenced Hitchcock to make Vertigo. Not to take away from Charade, a very enjoyable thriller......

Katherine Hepburn: The Most Over-Rated Star In Hollywood History

Seems like it's already been deleted. Where is it? I see it now. LOL. It took awhile to load........... Edited by: Hibi on Dec 15, 2011 5:09 PM -
Yes, you are right. The film was called Fanatic in England..........

I could kick myself. I should've tivo'd it way ahead of time. Who knows when/if it'll pop up again. ((((((((

Agree. It's the least of the three. Part of the problem is Rock and Doris are already married at the start, so the sexual game is gone. It was also originally a play and not written directly for the screen like the others so it wasnt really tailored as a Rock/Doris film like the other two........Stil,l I would like to see it again sometime. Randall is very funny in it.............

I FORGOT IT WAS ON!!!!!!!!! (((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((

Yours is not the majority opinion (then or now) of Lover Come Back. I thought she was quite sexy in that pajama top in the motel scene............
-
Cant remember the last time they've shown Send Me No Flowers...........

Agree. They were trying to push the envelope (and the code) in those films. It was a slow process. If you didnt grow up then, you just wouldnt understand. They seem quaint now........ Also, I dont think Doris gets enough credit for being a cinema role model for women (dont laugh). Throughout the 50s she played career women or strong women who were not dependent on men and who could hold their own with them. Even in her inocuous comedies with Gordon Macrae she was no pushover.........I See You In My Dreams is another good example. A musical biography where Doris plays the wife (and the film isnt really about her). But there is running tension throughout the film in what Danny Thomas sees as meddling or interference in his career. She's not the adoring wife type....... Edited by: Hibi on Dec 15, 2011 11:48 AM

Ironically she was at the peak of her popularity then (early 60s) but her film roles had become almost interchangeable, repeating the same formula. I blame her hubby who pretty much ran her career.......(and lost most of her fortune)..........

No, it was my wish that you enjoy the experience. LOL.

The internet comes in handy sometimes..........
