  1. They are showing Greatest Story Ever Told in Jan. for Angela Lansbury month. LOL. How long is she in that? 2 minutes?
  2. True. I think he put a lot of himself into his characters............
  3. So sorry to hear this. I read her book. It's too bad Loretta would never acknowledge it (in public) She looked so much like her father............
  4. LOL. Hitchock in the morning. Not really my cup of tea. I've found many of the shows disappointing so far (when I remember to watch) but I love Hitch's segues (which since there are no commercials) are even funnier! I dont know how he got away with that stuff in the day.........
  5. Williams denied to his dying day that Blanche was supposed to be a gay man, so I take him at his word.If the series were allowed to show foreign or recent films (by the end of the 60s, gay themes and characters in films became more commonplace, though more so in English and European fiilms), might I suggest: Death In Venice, Ludwig, The Damned and Sunday, Bloody Sunday off the top of my head. Peter Finch, IMO was robbed of an Oscar for Sunday (at least he got one, posthumously unfortunately, for Network)........
  6. I caught Call Her Savage on Fox a few months back. TERRIBLE movie, but the gay bar scene is quite obvious (I think I saw a clip of it in some TCM show before that) DEFINITELY precode.........
  7. That happens a lot in these tribute days. The performer only has to appear in the movie (even if a cameo!) LOL.
  8. OMG! There he is! LOL. The wonders of the internet. He still looks good in that recent picture........
  9. Wasnt he married to Gail Russell for a time?
  10. That explains everything now. I was wondering why if it was a Warners film it was rarely shown!
  11. That's for sure. Although all the studios had a rough time of it in the 1950's, Warners seemed to go into a steep decline for some reason in quality.......
  12. Hardly. LOL. And whose fault was it the studio didnt have great material? Was Jack to cheap to buy it?
  13. Agree. Even top stars at Warners like Doris Day weren't given great material in that period........
  14. Hey, it wasnt me that was knocking Gandhi. LOL.
  15. They are still showing the 1 hr episodes on Encore weeknights at 11pm. Dunno how long it will last!
  16. In a word, GREAT! I hope we see more of her in the future.........
  17. YES. Has anyone seen 3 Secrets? I've always wanted to see that, but it doesnt seem to pop up very often......
  18. I understand. But the Maharis arrest I remember was in the 1970s. Would think there would have been "safer" alternatives for someone in his position by that point.........Particularly someone as good looking as he was. I remember seeing him on Merv Griffin shortly before this and he was talking about posing in Playgirl at that time !! (I'm sorry I never got to check him out.......)
  19. LOL. Reminds me of the comment Hattie McDaniel made once. "I'd rather play a maid, then be one!".....
  20. Had she been at another studio (say, MGM instead of Warners) her career would've taken a whole other route. It's too bad most people view her as the "Virgin Queen" she only made a handful of films in that regard. She certainly wasnt that in her private life. I love her big band stuff with Les Brown before Columbia kept her on the straight and narrow route........
  21. I havent seen enough of her films to really judge her, but she was good in Champion and Strangers on a Train (I dont agree with Hitchcock's disparaging remarks...) I'd forgotten all about her being on the Angela Doria.......
  22. I bought her new CD and love it! I hope there is more stuff in the vaults they can release. It's a shame she stopped recording in the 60s.........By the 80s her style of singing came back and today there are many singers who sell well in that regard......
  23. I've just started watching Svengoolie a couple months ago. It's broadcast on MeTV on Sat. nights in my area. Is the show still making episodes? Reason I ask, they were making references to Bush being president in one show. Are they all reruns? Edited by: Hibi on Nov 29, 2011 2:24 PM
  24. Hey, Ennis. I hope you are still around. Please come back. There was no reason to leave........
  25. I've been offline for a week and this thread has ballooned all over the place. I wasnt trying to make fun of Maharis' arrest at all. Yes, it was embarassing and no doubt humiliating, but he also chose to engage in that activity. It wasnt meant as any sort of moral judgement on him or gays in general DougieB.........I was just surprised that the poster (cant remember who now) hadnt heard of Maharis, that's all.......
