  1. Just about anything Orry-Kelly (Jack) designed for Kay Francis. Another designer/star match made in heaven! Kay could wear anything (splendidly) I wish they had taken as much care with the parts they gave her as the clothes they had her wear at WB...........and those Travis Banton gowns for her in Trouble In Paradise were to die for!

  2. Some of my favorites have already been mentioned. Adding to Audrey Hepburn, just about anything she wears in Paris for Funny Face, especially the wedding dress and the red gown in the museum.......

Audrey's Ascot gown in My Fair Lady..........

Joan Crawford's Letty Lynton dress (the dress has become more famous than the film since it hasnt been shown in like 75 years!).......

Liz's white plunging number in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.........

I'm sure I can come up with more. Oh, Those Fab ball gowns in To Catch a Thief (how Edith Head lost for that year, I'll never understand........

    A fun thread!

  3. While I get tired of how some films seem to be shown repeatedly, I realize it's not the greatest time economically and TCM is also trying to attract new viewers, so I live with it. I thought July programming was pretty boring, so I hardly watched. But being summer, I can understand. Tv viewing is down across the board. On days or like July, months, that dont interest me much. I do other things (including watching movies I've recorded on TCM that I havent had time to watch!) This month is definitely high viewing for me on TCM and I'm sure things will pick up in fall. Life goes on! :D

My main complaint with TCM is with their prime time scheduling. I wish they'd mix it up more. Basically it's "crowd pleasers". You rarely see 30's films (particularly early 30s) or more obscure films in the 8pm to 2am slot. I can understand why they do this, but I wish they'd do a better mix.......

  4. I wouldnt hold your breath over Hotspell. TCM has never shown it (that I'm aware of) and it's a Paramount film. Have you requested it? If so, keep at it. Maybe it will be shown one day.

I agree about Mitchum being miscast in that film. They just dont seem to click in this movie. Oddly enough they clicked offscreen as they had an affair while making it........It ended because Mitchum in the end wouldnt leave his wife. They remained friends according to Shirley........

  5. I wound up not having enough time on the DVR to record some of the late in the day movies. WHY did it accept the recording only to tell me later when it was about to record I didnt have enough time? Weird. Normally it would tell me when I put in the recording request. Anyway I was stuck watching 3 on a Match live (which was ok. Hasnt held up well from the last time I saw it, but Ann was good) I had to zip through watching 2 films from earlier in the day to make room for 2 later ones last night, Our Very Own and the Spy one....

Stranger in Town was pretty awful. Poor Ann and David Manners stuck in that dog......But Friends of McSweeney was pretty funny. I hope they run that again as I had to FF through some scenes as I was too tired to stay up........

It's too bad she didnt rise to the top as the talent was there. And she was quite striking looking. I wish someone could explain the mystery of where her last name came from.....I was hoping Ben would tell us. NOT!

Interesting that Bette had the least meaty role of the 3 actress in Match, but eventually became the biggest star. A really thankless role.........

Sorry, it was Friends of MR. Sweeney! (I was zipping through it too quickly!)

  6. I'm recording 10 of her films today (I'm surprised there's space on the DVR) Only one of them I've seen (3 On A Match) Some of them sound pretty bad from the descriptions. Many of them are barely an hr, so I can knock off a lot of them in the next few days......

  7. LOVE Breaking Point. Saw it for the second time Friday. I'd forgotten parts of the plot so it was almost like seeing it for the first time. It's too bad this film isnt better known. Great performances by all. And the ending just blows you away.......

I like We Were Strangers too and watched that again (not your typical Jennifer Jones role!)
