I think the comment was meant by Davis to mean she didnt want the studio putting her in empty clothes horse vehicles which is what happened to Francis. Francis rarely fought the studio over roles she had to play (even though she was unhappy with many of them) like Davis later did. When Francis did finally have enough it was too late as the studio was trying to get rid of her (her lawsuit over Tovarich)......
Years later they wound up meeting in summer stock somewhere and commiserated about their treatment at WB. Davis asked Kay why she put up with all the BS she had to go through (forced to make B movies) towards the end. Kay said she wanted the money (by forcing WB to pay her). Davis commented she wanted the career........and there would lie the difference between the two.......

OMG! I didnt know that Mabel was Leachman's mother-in-law. So Mabel was one in real life too! LOL. I hope she was nicer than the characters she portrayed!

What's sad is the estate being decimated by the vultures (whoops, I mean lawyers) It's too bad both sides couldnt come to some agreement, instead of battling the estate away in court.......
-
That's good news!

Sorry to have missed this. I'm not familiar with this musical........though being Hollywood, they probably cut half the show's numbers........

I finally caught this. Very odd movie. And not the typical Kay Francis film. Although in typical WB fashion she's wasted in this and Leslie Howard gets top billing over her and the better part. I didnt care for it at all. A mix of bad acting and unbelievable romance thrown into a politcal/historical story.........
-
That's TERRIBLE. But it doesnt surprise me as they dont monitor those memoriam segments well....
-
Really? I guessed the killer early on. I recognized the eyes.......My only fault with the movie.......
-
It's too bad the film couldnt have been made a few years later than it was. Although the film is laughably trashy, it could've been a lot steamier made after the code broke down.........Patty Duke and Susan Hayward make the movie. When the movie's focus is off them, the movie gets boring. (except for Tony Scotti's mysterious illness!)

SAD NEWS. I hope nothing is seriously wrong with him. He'll be missed, that's for sure. Will be odd seeing someone doing the intros.......Will the Essentials be back on in the fall does anyone know?

Who was the troll? I havent been following this thread that closely........

Is this posted on TCM somewhere??? I hope he isnt ill!
(( Who are the substitutes? -
LOL. But on the west coast?

Yes true. TCM does sometimes run late.........

I read somewhere on the web they were light brown. (Hazel?) I've never seen her in color (well I did see her in Twin Peaks, but I dont remember) so I dont know for sure. Whatever they were, they were beautiful!

I've noticed sometimes on the last film of the night there isnt a follow up at the end. But it doesnt happen often. He usually does around 4 films.........
-
YES! I think this year is especially good. I know there will be more films than I can possibly watch or record on certain days.....on other days, I can take a break or catch up!

When it all comes down to it, it's just a group of people's opinions. Why get bent out of shape Monroe is higher than Garbo?. I'm sure another poll from a different group would have a different result. So? It was just a publicity stunt anyway with a TV program tie in..........
-
LOL. I thought they were on more than that. Maybe it just seems like it. There was that one episode (maybe it's one already mentioned) Where the boys tell the girls they have to work late at the office, and the girls are walking by after seeing a movie and hear the girls whooping it up in there. Needless to say, there were NOT pleased!
I didnt know there was actually a Siler City!
While we're on the subject, why did Jack Burns leave the show? Was he unhappy or was he just let go? I enjoyed his character (though not as much as Barney). I dont think he ever appeared on any reunion episodes. Wonder if there was some bad blood there? After that Andy went solo with no deputy.........

Yes, they did reuse actors a lot. I noticed that in the orignal run. I loved that female convict episode too. The Barney shows were classic. The show lost something when he left............

It's possible Mabel was busy doing her Bewitched role, she was playing that part around the same time (Howard's near-marriage episode) Who knows? Odd, though. I did hear about Frances Bavier dying but not Aneta. I feel bad now trashing her character. She wasnt that old. Too bad. I never saw her in anything else after they married and the show ended..........
I loved those girls! (Hi, doll!) Joyce had that really awful laugh........

I'm sure they dont consider him a big enough film star. Not everyone rates a tribute on TCM. But there doesn't seem to be any clear cut rules. Even Oscar winner Teresa Wright didnt get one! (nor Jane Russell earlier this year, though they did run some films on her birthday.......)

Sad story. Hard to know what the truth is. Probably somewhere in between. THis kind of situation happens a lot to the elderly. I hope I dont get that old!
