  1. It was probably a condition of her loan out contract. (Scott) Maybe she was considered a bigger star at the time. Odd, though as her role was subordinate to Greer's.....Yes. Entertaining (not always in ways intended. LOL).

  2. Yep. That Helen could be a real shrew! And getting Howard to go out on date was her idea in the first place. (was never a fan. LOL) I liked his earlier girlfriends better (Elinor Donahue, Tatum O'Neals mother (forget her name) There were others.......

  3. Yes. Mothers and Mothers-in-Laws....I loved her as Howard's mom. I think my favorite was the one where she faked headaches so Howard would come home early from his date. They wound up taking her along and Andy got stuck as her date. (LOL)

  4. No, it isnt a waste. As a viewer I'd like to feel like TCM is giving me accurate background information. It's sloppy mistakes like this that cause viewers not to trust the information that TCM provides us. My quarrel isnt so much with RO, but with researchers and accuracy checkers, though I would think RO would have caught such a glaring mistake, as he was part of the industry during that period!

  5. LOL. It's possible it was just a numeric typo. You'd think they'd have people who check on these things. RO was a part of that era. You'd think he would've given some thought to that statement...........

  6. LOL. I guess I should've put it there. Sorry! Isnt ENTIRELY his fault as I'm sure he didnt write the copy, but would have thought he'd notice the mistake...........

  7. MAJOR RO Blunder last night! While introing Home Before Dark he said Jean was 39 when she made the movie. I thought I didnt hear him right and rewound and played it again, but he did say 39! Since the movie was made in 58, I knew that couldnt be true! She was 29. Surprised RO didnt catch that. Someone asleep at the wheel too, who wrote the copy..........

  8. I agree with your opinions about Stage Fright. Marlene was so, well, so Marlene! Allmost as if the part were written for her. Maybe it was. Those wonderful close-ups (according to Hitchcock she directed HIM how to do them. LOL. She looked more like 30 than 48!) But it's Jane who carries the film and does it well. Love all the British eccentric characters in the film too. And agree. That "carriage scene" is great!

  9. Getting back to Jane. I didnt realize she had been a singer (according to imdb) before getting into films. I wonder if that was her real voice they used in Station West or whatever that western was. I cant picture her married to Rudy Valee. He must've been old enough to be her father! (marriage didnt last long!)

  10. OMG! Talk about misleading ad copy. Hilarious!

LOL. Very astute observations. Who could blame Jane for being bored at the auto race?? I would've dumped him right there! Scott's character is such a doofus, you wonder how she ever got her job...but then again, I'm sure the pay wasnt great and there probably werent too many applicants....
