Yes, I agree. The whole auteur theory and film noir originated in France. Many Hollywood directors (when still alive) scoffed at it all, saying something similar. "We were just doing our jobs" or "I was under contract and that's why I directed that movie etc......."
-
I remember in some interview (I think TCM runs it occasionally) Jane said the only direction he gave her (he didnt speak English well) was: First part: Good Girl; Second part: Bad Girl. So if she created that role from just that, she did a great job!

Oh Boy. That sounds like a good one! Who is the blonde in the title?
-
What a sad story. I'm so sorry for your loss.

LOL. She really could use her eyes to great effect (and it helped they were beautiful too!) I dont know if her facial injury helped this or not. I always thought she was quite striking. A shame she didnt become a bigger star.........Of course being at RKO during the Hughes years didnt help.....

Yes, it does sound arrogant (LOL). We'll have to agree to disagree.......
-
So it really was a faked slap? I'd read it was for real. Did Jean ever comment on that? (I never read anything) Too bad she never wrote her memoirs.....
-
No, that was a tv show (LOL)........
-
-
Yes. I think so.
-
Yes, I've read about that slapping scene. Didnt Mitchum threaten to slap Preminger if he had to slap Simmons again? (her face was red from the repeated slapping) Preminger wanted him to really slap her and not fake the slap........
-
No, Faith meets another kind of justice at the end.......
-
That sounds like Mitchum. Too funny!
-
I dont think that's a given. I think the movie leaves it up in the air deliberately. The viewer can come to their own conclusion......

Finally saw the entire film this time (I'd seen parts before). Mansfield's squealing really got on my nerves! Did anyone notice she disappears from the film about 2/3 through? (only to reappear at the end) I thought the film just ok. Funny in parts, a bit tedious in others. I've never seen Girl Cant Help It. I hope that pops up on TCM (I think it has before)
Does anyone know Jayne turned down the part taken by Tina Louise in Gilligan's Island? It turned out to be a big mistake and could've revived what career she had left. But she thought appearing on tv was a comedown and turned it down. So she was stuck doing Grade Z movies (when they were offered anyway...)

I've always been puzzled at that aspect of the ending. Did the boy deliberately mislead Ann or was he misled himself and just assumed that was Jeff's intention? It's the final irony in the film and she decides to go on with her life with the lawman.
I stayed up long enough to see Station West. An interesting western (loved some of the dialogue) I hadnt seen The Big Steal in a long time. That was fun. Not much plot, but moves at breakneck speed. Company She Keeps I'd seen some years ago too. Jane is very good in that (though Scott's character got on my nerves. Just too sweet)
Greer had such expressive eyes. Were they brown?
There wasnt much press coverage when she died, I remember. Did TCM even do a Remembers tribute?

Yes, I remember her bit in Twin Peaks. She was in several episodes. She looked great too.
-
I'm happy to see TCM focusing on her for a night (have always liked her). Another actress that Hughes mismanaged, but she did some good films. I cant vouch for the whole night, but the first three films are worth watching. And in the case of Out of the Past (showing first) worth watching many times! One of my favorite noirs and femme fatales!

LOL. Hotel is the type of film they wouldnt make today. Or if they did it would be totally unrecognizable. Like say an action/thriller. Terrorists. Hostages. Bomb. The film was made back in the quaint 60s before or just as the 60's shake up started in Hollywood. They did try to make it a bit daring with semi-nudity.........
-
No, Touch of Class has an amusing check in scene........
-
I'd forgotten about that one!
-
Granted, she had issues, but I just meant she was not a "nice" character like her other leading lady type roles in films........
-
It pops up occasionally. It will probably be shown again.
-
That could very well be. I was too young back then to really focus on the goings on. The network could have decided to cut their losses and just cancel it. I do remember watching the show, at least occasionally. I think it was on Saturday night...........

Anyone Watch ANGEL FACE last night?

Well, either way I can see the actors getting pretty peeved at repeating the scene over and over. Preminger wasnt known for treating his actors well, so it wouldnt surprise me.
