  1. In addition to The Ghost Writer, I felt The Town was also deserving of a best pic nomination (considering some of the other nominees).

And who's idea was it to have Kirk Douglas (who has trouble speaking since his stroke) present the Supporting Actress award??? I felt sorry for the nominees who had to sit through that interminable presentation while having to smile waiting for the envelope to be opened. They usually have the person who won in the other category (supting actor) present it. Who won last year? (I cant even remember. LOL!)

  2. I stopped watching the awards years ago. I usually record them and just FF through and watch the awards that interest me. Some years if I'm not interested I dont even do that. When I was younger, I'd never miss ths show......It did seem like one of the shorter shows (a little over 3 hrs)...... The Oscars have less cachet than they did years ago. And the fact they are the last awards show (and there are so many before.....) Years ago they were the only game in town (aside from the Globes who no one cared about.....)

Was surprised Deakins did not win for cinematography. Has he ever won? Disappointed Rush didnt win either as that movie was really a duet, though Bale did win about all the previous awards. Glad Kings Speech won as many as it did, though surprised it didnt win more. On to next year! LOL.

  3. LOL. Sound hilarious. I've always thought TBS would be great as a comedy send up! (John Waters style)........

"Hortense, hasnt a lick of sense, let's write her name on the privy fence...."

How many women were named Hortense? Even back then? (LOL) What did they call her for short? HOR? :D

  4. Yes, I enjoy it too. It's really bad, but in a GOOD way. (Nancy Kelly is so over the top!) But there are some good performances in it. Eileen Heckart for one. The guy who played the handyman.....

The movie is totally ruined by that tacked on ending showing the cast.............I wont reveal it, but it's SOOOO BAD. I know the play ended differently and it was changed to appease the code. How does the play end, does anyone know? Does Nancy Kelly do the deed in the play too?

Whatever happened to Patty McCormack? I know she did a few films after that, then more or less disappeared.

  5. Yes, I remember that show. I loved the clothes and there were some handsome young actors in it! I used to watch AMC before it changed formats. TNT too. When TCM started they dropped the old movies from TNT (they had commercials and werent widescreen as I recall). I missed the first year or so of TCM, but luckily not since then. First AMC started running commericals between movies. I didnt mind that too much, but when they started IN the movie itself and dropped the old movie format, that's when I left.......SAD.

  6. Yes, it's true TCM doesnt really have competition. That said I dont think they are resting on their laurels (yet). The Fox Channel doesnt show many old movies and only in the daytime. Their primetime movies seem to be the same 2 dozen or so constantly rotating.......I miss the old Paramount movies on AMC.........

  7. Well, Shirley Booth was already in her 50s when she won her Oscar, so she would've been hard to cast as a leading lady even with an Oscar win after that. So it's no surprise to me that it didnt lead to a real film career. She didnt strike me as the type to do any type of role for the money, so she went back to the stage where she could still get leading parts......

  8. While I agree with a lot of your comments, I cant agree that Goodbye, Mr. Chips was an awful movie (the remake). It did have a pretty awful score (except for a couple songs) by Leslie Bricusse. O'Toole fully deserved his nomination (though his singing is pretty bad). He lifted that movie onto another level. His acting in several scenes still brings tears to my eyes, though I havent seen it in quite awhile.
