I've never been able to sit through The Moon Is Blue, but she did remind me of Audrey in some other films (Like 3 Coins In The Fountain) 20th seemed to be grooming her as their version of Audrey, but she didnt really catch on. I think she wound up being a secretary later in life...........
She did have the same sort of short hairstyle Audrey wore back then........(Sabrina period)..........

I could see her with Paul Newman. With the others, not so much...
-
Yes, Audrey and Jack Lemmon. What might have been..........
-
Yes, it was the same film, but it was the late 50s, not 60s. It was called No Bail for the Judge. And I think John Williams was to play her father, a judge. She and Laurence Harvey were trying to clear him of a murder charge. There was to be an explicit (for it's time at least) rape scene, but Audrey had misgivings about following through with the project. She became pregnant (and later lost the baby) and used that as an excuse to exit the project. Hitchcock was so mad he refused to make the film with anyone else and shelved it.

YES, it would!

Oh, I thought it was on this morning. But my power is STILL out, so not looking good! Thanks, though.

Thanks. DIdnt realize Hilda was a Fox film. Explains why I havent seen it!
-
I checked and Fox is going to show it again on Mar. 2nd 8am. I hope I remember! YAY.

Yeah, its a shame she rarely worked with leading men her own age. She did almost work with Paul Newman in Robin and Marian, but he backed out for some reason and Sean Connery took the role (and he was splendid, and her age, so I cant really complain......)
A lot of projects she was set to star in over the years, never panned out. One was a Billy Wilder film with Yul Brynner, another was a Hitchcock film with Laurence Harvey, who both would have been around her age. Neither was ever filmed among other projects..........
She was set to star in 40 Carats with William Wyler as director, but he had to back out due to health problems so she backed out and it was filmed (badly) with Liv Ullmann who was much too young for the role. That would've been different as Audrey would've been much older than her leading man (I'm not sure the role was ever cast)........

Thanks!

The Bond films really lost something when they stopped using Barry's scores. Some of the scores for the Roger Moore films were really bad...........
-
Well, thanks to my power going out (and it's still out) due to the ice storm, I wasnt able to record Clara. I hope it shows up again. ****! Missed out on Last Summer too...........
-
YAY! Thanks. ANyone know what SOTM is March?
-
Well to be fair, the movie didnt give much insight to her character or show her vulnerability. Dunno if this was lacking in the script, or editing/direction. The ending was VERY unsatifying.......
-
When is Ray's month anyway?
-
Thanks for the explanation. A lot more in depth then the movie's ending which left everything hanging....
-
Has TCM ever showed Hilda Crane? I've never seen that one.
-
Agree about Two For The Road. My personal favorite of hers along with Roman Holiday.
-
Another great movie composer is gone. Are there any left from his era?
-
King's Speech has also won the DGA award, so it's definitely the front runner. I'd be very surprised if it lost now.........
-
I find it hard to believe the play would end like that. (so ambiguously)...On the plus side, the flim didnt really seem like a play adaptation, like many movie adaptations do........
-
Ah, Bette. She was much too old for the part, but she gives it her all. (which is a lot! LOL) She tears into the scenery and her lines with relish......
-
No, it's been shown on TCM much more recently than that. In the last decade I'm sure......
-
Cant wait to watch it! I recorded it. I've never seen it before. I did record it on tape years ago and the tape degraded before I could watch it (LOL). Wont happen now!
