I didnt understand the ending (or lack of one) What happened to the dwarf and Keith Carradine? What was the meaning of Redgrave looking out the window like that (with long hair).
-
I doubt this supposed liason ever happened. I dont think Tennessee employed the casting couch. I remember reading in his memoirs about a leading man showing up at his hotel as a "reward" for being cast in his play and he told him it was not required. He didnt mention the name, but at the time I assumed it was Tab Hunter (who appeared in Milk Train.......)

Thanks. Turns out she died a year after appearing on I Love Lucy.......Too bad. She wasnt that old, really.
-
GREAT. What a shame! Explains why I havent seen it on the channel for some time. A camp classic! TCM used to show it fairly regularly.
Wish I'd recorded it now......... -
I missed the first 5 mins, but loved the movie. Cocky attitude for the time it was made......
Oh, and I loved the actress who played his "mom". RO mentioned her name, but I've already forgotten it. She was in a classic I Love Lucy episode (Lucy and Ethel buy a dress shop and she was the owner). Great gal!

I'm all for that! (More Paramount) There are many gems from early 30s waiting to be shown. SIGH.

On the Carson McCullers night? I recorded it, but havent watched yet. I dont even remember this film playing in theaters (at least in my area). Wonder if it tanked and wasnt seen much out of NY/LA? With Vanessa Redgrave in it, I'm sure I'd have remembered it........

I'm not sure Social Network is going to win Best Picture. It was an early favorite, but Speech seems to have the momentum now.............We'll see!
-
Wonder if there'll be any drag scenes? LOL.
-
No, I've seen Beyond The Forest on TCM several times. But it's been quite awhile. I wonder when this "right's issue" came to pass?
-
OH, NO! What rights issues? I know TCM has shown this in the past. I've wondered why I havent seen it on in ages. I'd like to see it again.

-
No, but her flying technique could've been put to good use!

-
Interesting, Fred. Thanks for the url.

I liked it when I saw it years ago.......
-
It's a shame about about Clara Bow. Paramount used her then threw her away when she became too much of a "problem". They paid her a pittance compared to their other stars. She made them a ton of money in the 20s. I wish TCM would play more of her films, sound or otherwise....
-
Was that Complicated Women? I think that was done a few years ago.......
-
I agree the rainfall scene is more powerful. Adding the Mother Superior scene wasnt really necessary as Kerr had already done enough breast beating over her failures..........
-
I see. I didnt realize there were Protestant nuns........but being married would not rule you out becoming a Catholic nun either (though Kerr wasnt married in this instance....) if your husband died........
-
They were shown last night. Hard to believe those scenes got it Condemned. Unreal. Would've thought the wayward nun would've been far more objectionable.........

Well, there were visually static films being made beyond 1931. Particularly adaptations of stage plays. I've seen a lot of MGM films (and RKO) that remained stagebound and boringly photographed....
-
Since it's a Fox film, I wouldnt hold your breath. I would like to see it again. Havent seen it since before cable. I wonder if it pops up on Fox sometimes?
-
Condemned? That's funny. It probably had to do with Byron's character lusting after Farrar (I would've too! LOL) Have seen the movie many times and never get tired of watching it. Breathtaking.

i thought the plot of Mayor From Hell seemed awfully familiar, but I was sure I hadnt seen the movie before (with Cagney). Then RO said after it was remade with Bogie and the Dead End Kids five years later. That was the version I'd seen. Some of the scenes were exactly the same........
