  1. LOVED IT! Didnt realize there were 2 threads about this and responded on the other one. I'd wanted to see this film for many years and so glad was finally able to. Great camerawork and editing (unusual for an early talkie) Sidney was excellent in her debut and so was the director!

  2. Loved the movie, though it ran out of steam towards the end. For an early talkie it had a very fluid visual style very UNLIKE early talkies. Great editing and camerawork. Very few talky drawing room scenes of that type (and they were short). Sidney was great, and was interesting to hear from RO after that was the first voiceover scene used in a Hollywood movie. Have heard a lot about this movie over the years and was SO HAPPY to have finally seen it. Hope we'll be seeing more of Sidney and Paramount on TCM!

Was interesting to see Guy Kibbee playing a heavy. Dont think I've ever seen him in a role of that type before. Lukas seemed cast against type too. Overall another great Friday movie night (like last week) I watched them all!

  3. I wouldnt be surprised if they split the director/film awards this year. I found Social Network a rather cold film and smart alecky in tone (like it's subject) though well made. Will be interesting to see how things turn out......

I'll be shocked (and unhappy) if Colin FIrth doesnt win, but I doubt I'll watch the show in any case. Life is too short! (to waste 4 hrs) I might record it and zip through to watch the highlights).

I'm hoping Annette Bening will finally win this year too (always the bridesmaid......)

  4. What a GREAT night! Unfortunately, I missed the third film because I was watching behind real time on the DVR and I punched wrong button and missed half the movie. Bummer! Didnt want to see the last half w/out seeing the whole thing, so skipped it. Hope they run it again! :(

  5. I just read that Wilder was forced to reshoot the Farr/Dino trailer scene to make it less apparent about what really happened. The original scene was kept in the European version (those sophisticated Euros! :D) It was restored in a new print struck about 10 years ago. But since I didnt see the recent showing, I'm not sure which version TCM is playing.....

  6. I've been skimming IMDB reviews after you told me and there are quite a few good reviews on there. Even raves. I'm surprised the film is providing such a long thread here as it's been shown on TCM quite a few times now. I havent seen it in a long time, but I never thought the film was really bad. Just not one of his best. There are some interesting ideas and nice bits in it. I'd have preferred Sellers in the part than Ray Walston. He's just not leading man material to me, though a good actor. I have to disagree Jonny, I think this is one of Novak's best performances. I'll have to catch the film again and make a reassessment........

  7. Getting back to Kiss Me, Stupid, is there anyone else but me who doesnt think the movie is that bad? I havent seen it recently, but I think the uproar in the past about it was overblown. I agree it's not one of Wilder's best, but I wouldnt say it's awful. Tasteless, yes.

  8. No, I wasnt referring to you. I realized someone else was doing it. But it's a waste of time thinking posting threads about it here are going to get the movie shown. I did see it many years ago when one of the networks showed it. Cant remember too much about it. Seems like one of those movies that have fallen through the cracks over the years.....

I just noticed I replied to your post, but I wasnt referring to you as the person making all the posts. Sorry, for the confusion......
