YEP! Another last minute addition......
-
TCM better get busy editing him into the TCM Remembers clip (still havent seen it yet. Havent been watching TCM much this month) I agree with some members they start running it too early........
-
LOL. You're probably right!
-
Thanks for the info. That's too bad. I remember when the movie came out. It was in and out of theaters quickly and reviews werent too favorable. I'd heard that AIP recut the film and pretty much dumped it in theaters.......
-
LOL!
-
They could've come up with a better comedy/musical pick than Burlesque, but then what credibility do the Globes have anyway? LOL The producers probably paid them off for a nomination.......
The Tourist is another loser.............

And what was the deal with ONCE AGAIN TCM showing a non-widescreen print (of A Matter of Time?) Another TCM premiere (like Tender Is The Night) but not in widescreen format. I was looking forward to watching it (as I never saw it). I did record it, but like Tender am in no hurry to watch it in full screen now...........

LOL. You'd think with all the plastic surgery she wouldnt need to use facial tape........
-
I second that! Havent seen it in many years. I remember Vera Miles being a real hoot in it!
-
Among many. I dont think so!
-
Well it wouldnt have hurt to have shown ONE of her more noteworthy roles. TCM has shown Last Voyage quite often..........
-
NOT with Olivia Newton-John. LOL!
-
SO TRUE, FRED!
-
Thanks. The movie is quite long then. That's probably part of the problem. I do remember Berneice (sp?) Bobs Her Hair on PBS in the 70s but I didnt catch it........
-
Yes, I agree. Books that are more plot driven (thrillers, mysteries etc.) adapt better to the screen then "literature" as a rule........Even if they are faithful to the plot, they lose something in the translation........

I loved The Town! One of the few films I saw this fall. Few films this year I really wanted to see. I'm surprised they went with Jesse Eisenberg for best actor. I didnt think he was all that great. He played the same type of role in Solitary Man and that Squid movie (forget the exact title.....)
HOW are the Oscars going to come up with 10 films this year???
-
Yeah, I've seen that. I forgot she was in it.....

When the 60's hit Hollywood, Doris somehow took the blame for what came before. As if she was responsible for the 50s or the production code.........She was a huge star and became a symbol of that. I find it terrible that many young people today dont even know who she is........
-
What was the original running length of Tender? Does anyone know? Was it longer than 132m? I havent watched the TCM showing yet (since it's not WS I'm not in any hurry......)
Hemingway didnt have a lot of luck in his books being adapted either. Though not as badly as Fitzgerald.....

If they were doing a night of her movies WHY NOT Written On the Wind??? It always gets me when they do these nights and just throw a bunch of nondescript films together......
-
LOL. I also noticed there was a lot going on in that scene......
-
What shall we call the award? An Osborne?

-
For those interested, Doris has issued a calendar for next year and personally picked all the pictures. 2 autographed copies will be auctioned on e-bay. All proceeds will go to her foundation. Amazon is selling it. I plan to buy a copy. Great picture of her on the cover.......

So RO said that in the intro or the wrap up? (about the color prints) That's interesting as I thought he taped those intros months in advance and would have no knowledge of the print they were showing.....and I agree TCM should start showing those "modified for television" warnings that are run on other stations if they are going to make a habit of showing full screen/pan and scan versions. Maybe they should start a full screen night to dump all those versions when they cant get WS?

JANUARY SCHEDULE IS UP!!!!

Was looking forward to the Kay Francis birthday tribute, until I saw the roster. The same old films they always show. SIGH. No Paramount pre-codes..........
