Yes. I think the fact they were relatively inexpensive to make is one reason RKO made so many of them. Though all the majors (even MGM!) made some.....
-
Me too. Love them. In my younger days I didnt. I guess it comes with age?
-
Yes, I understand. I was thinking too, that the phasing out of b and w films too ended noirs (at least technically)
Miss Wonderly. Thanks, I'll go over to that thread!

-
When is the Noir period considered to have ended? Late to mid-50s? I know some people credit the Maltese Falcon to be the first film noir........
-
LOL.
-
Did Slezak ever play a nice guy? LOL.
-
I guess we'll never know.......
-
LOL. In some ways I liked it better than Murder, My Sweet because it WAS more serious, though it got a bit too talky/messagey towards the end. Both had rather convoluted plots that were hard to follow at times...........Did that French actress do any other films in Hollywood? I'm unfamiliar with her.......Powell was great!

Anyone watch last night? I'm embarassed to say, I wasnt familiar with this movie and thoroughly enjoyed it. RKO definitely made the best noirs........
-
Yes. Agree. And I think she would've been great in the part too.........Too bad.

Agree. I prefer his comedies, though I do like the original Love Affair......

I know I'm in the minority, but I found this film a HUGE letdown (have wanted to see it for years) The father and mother were just TOO sweet and idealized (especailly Bondi, who I usually like, but who made me nauseous after awhile.........) I guess I shouldnt have been surprised as Leo McCarey was involved who layed the sentimentality on with a trowel. It could've been a much more hard hitting film.......
-
LOL. I meant besides her. I Know she's still alive........
-
Never liked that kid...........
Is anyone left from that movie? Is Ann Rutherford still alive?
-
I wouldnt say she was a great actress and she did her share of "fluff" (Boys Night Out etc.) but I think she was a better actress than critics gave her credit for back in her heyday. Definitely in "Middle of the Night". I think she did benefit being cast in A list projects with big stars. But I think she had something too.

The lack of class and actor bashing doesnt just pertain to men.........we saw evidence of that with Emma Thompson just a few weeks ago........
-
NO KIDDING! Who says his day is over? He was up for an Oscar just a few years ago for that film! He'd be a great interview. Perhaps it's because he doesnt live in the U.S. I wish they could nab him............
-
Happy to hear this. I was looking forward to seeing "Flannel Suit" Havent seen it in years.........
And I have to agree with Face In a Crowd. I hope after this they give it a LONG REST!
-
In her autobiography she said wasnt in the Walton's tv series because no asked her! UNREAL.
-
Yes. I remember watching "Landlady" a year or two ago on TCM........I hadnt seen it in years and didnt think it held up very well..........
-
How could she decline before the award is even offered?
-
I guess this lays to rest the rumor they contact the person before the announcement to make sure they'll attend......
-
What they get for honoring him then. LOL. Once again Doris Day is passed over (I knew the Facebook campaign wouldnt sway the Academy)......
-
I did make it to the end of BOOM! You didnt miss anything (LOL). Zee is another clunker (just finished watching that) I cant think of anyone who had such a career downward spiral as Liz did in the late 60's-early 70s.........Granted the movies were changing, but her film choices were BAD. I think her last good year was 67 or 68 when she did Taming of the Shrew (her last hit)........
