Another good book on Marilyn's last days (and her life) was a book called Goddess (I think) by Anthony Summers. Came out maybe 20- 25 years ago.

That's true. I think she was likely murdered, i just don't know by whom....
Ditto. Various suspects.

A lot of people in Hollywood (then and now) believe she was murdered. Plenty of evidence pointing to a cover up in the years since. But since the county didn't want to pay to open up a new inquiry it will always remain a mystery. Everyone involved is dead now.

Don't have much to add to Act of Violence. I've seen it a half dozen times and it's one of my favorite noirs. One I had not heard of before TCM! It has some believability issues, (the fact the hoods would go through with the plan w/out being paid first), but overall a gripping story and still timely subject matter today. Love all the Bunker Hill area night scenes. One thing I dont think anyone has mentioned are how finely etched the 3 female lead characters are written. Thaxter doesn't have a lot to do, but her character moves the plot along and her prodding of Ryan's conscience does affect him in the end. Astor and Leigh are both great. Everyone is. But for a noir the women are all 3 dimensional and well written.
I've always wondered whether Astor tried to forge Heflin's signature and cashed that check!

Sad news. I was a fan during his peak years on the Scepter label (mid 60s through the mid 70s) I didnt follow him to his country period later. Great voice. I have several compilation cds of his. Nice looking guy too.

Dunno about that, but he spent his whole talk complaining about how P.T. Anderson had ignored the fact that porn actors of the 1970s risked arrest for prostitution. It was a weird evening.
Well, they did prosecute him over Deep Throat. Glad he got off. (double meaning not intended!)

Have you seen the Martin Sheen movie The Incident? It would fit too and is highly worth watching.
I have. Yeah, would make a good double bill. IF the Incident was shown last. Really nasty film.

That will give me another reason to watch it again. I remember seeing the remake, maybe on one of
those free HBO/Cinemax, et al. weekends. Nowhere as good as the original, but entertaining enough.
Am not sure he even had any lines. I dont remember. Wasnt in the film too long.

Is this a politics thread?
No, Was discussing a crime show. One of the nuts sent a letter to Obama to intervene on a property dispute!

Yeah. Talk about a person being totally delusional. And he received a reply from Obama or whoever handles
those things from the general public. Then goes in and shows it to the local gov't officials. I wonder if the
victim really danced around him making fun of him. Not that that excuses what he did, but this is the kind of
guy one should stay away from as far as possible.
Yeah, its possible that was another one of his delusions.......

Have seen enough Kong films........

Thanks. Think I'll skip this one.

Since Backlot is kaput, I assume there won't be any backlot choices? (or chosen for them to choose?)

It looks like the schedule is in the process of being posted. It's pretty rough looking right now. They have the same two Elvis movies scheduled back-to-back. I imagine that that will be fixed. I notice in this new iteration of the schedule, all the themes are missing. Not sure if the feed has changed or what is going on. I am guessing that the Star of the Month is Elvis.
I know a lot of people are going to groan about Elvis being SOTM, but I for one am happy! His movies bring about a delightful amount of fluffiness (except for some of his earlier, more serious films like Jailhouse Rock and King Creole) that I find entertaining and sometimes is just what I need when I lack the mental brainpower for a more involved film. Plus, I like Elvis' music and he's easy on the eyes and sometimes that's all I want from a movie. I've been trying to see his films, so I'm happy that TCM is coming through with some of the titles I haven't seen yet.
Thank you, TCM!
From what I can discern from the rough draft, this looks to be the Noir Alley schedule:
7/3 Guilty Bystander
7/10 The Bribe
7/17 Los Tallos Amargos
7/24 Cause for Alarm!
7/31 Hollow Triumph
Hollow Triumph would repeat during the first day of SUTS. I wonder if that means that one of that film's stars will be honored with a day, or whether they'll forgo the customary repeat of the Noir Alley feature.
There are still a lot of gaps in the schedule, but it looks like it's coming together.
Probably Paul Henreid then. I doubt it would be JOAN BENNETT! (LOL).
-
UGH. Another wasted month (SOTM) Cheap for TCM though, as they can show all his MGM junk cheaply....... Sorry, Joan! (Bennett) Maybe fall. I don't watch TCM much in the summer anyway....
Noir Alley looks good at least. Some films I haven't seen and a few I would like to see again.

Yeah, you're probably right. Remakes of action type films usually are.

I agree. It's not as confusing as some other noirs, though it took me a while to figure it all out.
There are usually large time gaps between my viewings of the movie so I forget which is which.
I'd have to see them in close proximity to recall the differences.
Did you catch FTN last night??? What a nutcase! Scary there are people like him around. LMREO over the letter to Obama!

in all seriousness though, in the early 1970's, WALTER MATHAU took a very risky- and in retrospect stunningly successful- foray into a whole series of serious, gritty, violent and not at all funny films. CHARLIE VARRICK is really good, as is PELHAM and I am curious about THE LAUGHING POLICEMAN, but it seems like it rarely airs.
I am hard pressed to think of another actor who transitioned from comedy into drama as successfully as MATHAU did, even if he did end up returning to comedy for the most part.
I don't remember The Laughing Policeman. I wonder how the remake of Pelham compares to the original?

Okay. Guess he wasn't on screen very long. I'll have to concentrate next time I see it.
I remember him now.

As well as the 2 films she did with Cary Grant: Wedding Present and Big Brown Eyes. Am sure there are others. (Paramount).

Yeah, he plays the Prince Charming who seems like he's going to take poor Dusty away from her life of hooking.
I met him once. Late 1990s, a San Diego theater was screening two 1970s three-dimensional porn movies--I am not making this up--and Reems was there and gave a little talk. He seemed annoyed that he wasn't cast in "Boogie Nights".
LOL. Wasn't this after he dried out and found religion?
