  1. ok, i am not imagining things, it does seem that part of the gondola scene in Anna Karenina (1935) is missing from the DVD release in the Garbo signature collection, but this scene was included in the broadcast of the film this past wednesday on TCM my question is this...is this scene now included in the version of the film in the new literary collection box set now for sale? does anyone out there know the answer?

  2. Wednesday evening TCM showed Anna Karenina, i have seen this film numerous times and have it on DVD on the Garbo signature collection..........ok, right, so what???? well, as i viewed the film on TCM that evening, in the scene in Venice on the gondula, there was an extension of this scene, where GG sees a young child, and thinks of her son, she (in this version) she invites the child into the boat with her and Vronsky, and plays with the child and it is a lovely scene, with wonderful close-ups, I HAD NEVER SEEN THIS SCENE BEFORE, is the film showed the other evening a newly edited cut of the film, is this scene now included in the new TCM literary collection now being sold for the first time along with the other 3 films shown that evening, can anyone give me an answer to this question??????????????????????????????????????????????????

  3. THE BIGGEST TRAVESTY HAS TO BE GARBO NOT WINNING THE OSCAR FOR CAMILLE, EVERYONE HAS AGREED OVER THE YEARS BETTE DAVIS EVEN SAID IT WAS NOT JUSTICE......SHE FINALLY GOT HER OSCAR FOR HER UNFORGETTABLE PERFORMANCES, IN HER CAREER, THAT WAS REALLY FOR CAMILLE!

  4. Garbo was a serious dramatic actress, who transcended from silents to talkies, not many were able to do so successfully, was nominated 4 times for an oscar (twice in one year) - only made 24 American films, and oh yes, did comedy also, Ninotchka for instance, comedy is considered the lesser of acting skills, that is why so many great comic actors never are recognized by the Academy.....Marilyn was ok for what she did, but come on , how come she is listed higher than Joan Crawford, Stanwyck, let alone be right after Garbo, could Marilyn have been a silent screen actress, then switch to talkies (also while overcoming a Swedish accent, and in grand hotel, she is a doing a russian accent.........also Garbo is in the Guiness Book of Records as being the most beautiful woman who ever lived, her face was perfectly proportioned...it was perfect for film.....incidentally, Garbo met Marilyn (both of whom were of Scandinavian backgrouind) and got on very well, Marilyn idolized Garbo and Garbo saw great talent in Marilyn! bet you did not know these facts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. strangely, she thougt so too, but you must remember this, she was playing an overly dramatic fading ballerina, and she probably interpretated the character very well, she is playing a drama queen as she should be played. i love her in anything.

  6. yes, i agree it could have been longer, also Joan and Greta were unhappy that they had no scenes together, they would have loved it...both were so great in their own way...each was perfect for the part they played! John Barrymore, i would love to find him in my room any time, and Lionel, well what can you say about Lionel???????

  7. Grand Hotel is a masterpiece of character development and social commentary, i.e. Mr. Industrial Magnet, you do not kill a man over a pockebook, I am my own master, i want to be along, and it is not I Vant - she said it correctly I WANT to be along.....the fact that the baron was really a poor lost soul, the stenographer was forced to do what she did, it is just such a great film i could watch it a thousand times, just those love scenes with Barrymore and Garbo, it is breathtaking!
