I LOVE KIM TOO! ALSO, IN MY OPINION, BETTE DAVIS SORT OF EMULATED JEANNE EAGLES' ACTING TO SOME DEGREE, FORGIVE ME IF I AM TRESPASSING ON SACRED GROUND, BUT I ALWAYS THOUGHT DAVIS WAS OVER THE TOP IN HER ACTING......SOMETIMES IT IS EVEN FUNNY...EAGLES IN THE LETTER IS SUPPOSED TO BE NEUROTIC AND PLAYED IT SO....THIS IS MY OPINION OF COURSE.

Don't miss John Gilbert day this coming Tuesday!!! Rock out!
johnbabe replied to markbeckuaf's topic in General Discussions
JG and Jeanne were not lovers, according to his biography, he had a short fling, with Jeanne while he was living with/engaged to Garbo, he told Garbo and she had a fit or whatever, he told her JE meant nothing but a quick fling, if you get my drift...so goes the story...anyway JE was in hollywood a short time and went back to the theatre, i would lover to see this film that Jack made with her though. -
it was on TCM today, and it was a great treat for my, it is my birthday!

Michael Jackson deserves a HUGE tribute in his birthday...
johnbabe replied to lucianacamino's topic in Your Favorites
what??????????????????????? what movies did he make?????????????????? hey, when TCM ignores Garbo's birthday on September 18th, they do not need to do tributes to this person who never even make a movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
If you could spend the day with any star...
johnbabe replied to MyFavoriteFilms's topic in General Discussions
i would like to spend the day with: the men: Gable, Grant, Robert Taylor, John Wayne, Orson Wells the gals: Garbo, Crawford, Hepburn, i could add more, but these are the main ones..... -
Wow, he was gorgeous, the day of his films, could go on forever for me, i could not get enough of this man, his acting was so subtle, similar to Garbo's I heard that he helped her with his technique and style, it is most likely true, their eyes looking at eachother in all their films, tells a luscious story!
-
i just want to see Gilbert's films all released, give me a break, the guy is so beloved even to this day!
-
Let us hope for a box set of his films, he was soooooooooooooo gorgeous, romantic and sexy!

Classic film actors that nixed television
johnbabe replied to MyFavoriteFilms's topic in General Discussions
Garbo never did television, spencer tracey, robert taylor, i do not think so, bergman, olivier, these people, i think, viewed television as a sub par media to film,,,,i could be wrong, but they did not see themselves as TV actors. I agree, totally. -
Most Romantic Classic Movie Moments

Don't miss John Gilbert day this coming Tuesday!!! Rock out!
johnbabe replied to markbeckuaf's topic in General Discussions
Gilbert is the most gorgeous and sexy man on the screen, only Gable came close in my opinion, i love his silents, he was sooooooo romantic, and his sound films were very good too, TCM should put out a box set, similar to GG's mixing his silents and talkies, The Big Parade, was wonderful, I cried in the scene with his mother, when he comes home - and then I cried again when he returns to France and finds his love........................... Yesterday, was the best Summer under the Stars day this year for me! Keep putting more Gilbert films on the air! -
Which stars from the past would make it/fail today?
johnbabe replied to ClassicViewer's topic in General Discussions
i think that Garbo and Myrna were too much of grand ladies to stoop to all the nonsense of today, they were made for great acting as was Davis, Hepburn and Crawford, they probably would have been stars, but on a more subdued level, they were too above the mentality of today's movies and movie-goers who prefer animation and computer generated nonsense than pure great acting, also Gable would have appealed in some films, but he too was above all the junk of today, Tracy would have not even been understood, look at Bogart he would have been relegated to some character acting, but at least people who love TCM as I do, would always love and appreciate these people, my list is endless and I cannot list them all, that is how I feel! -
Best portrayals of MONARCHS ON FILM

I love Gilbert, he is so overlooked today, please do not forget Flesh and the Devil, that is the film that set the silver screen ablaze with the first scandalous kissing scenes, etc...it is really something to see those 2 fall in love right on the screen, catch it! -
how about some of the stars who made it from silents to talkies, now, they had to have great voices for the new medium: Greta Garbo Norma Shearer John and Lionel Barrymore Wallace Beery Joan Crawford and these voices were the very essence of screen drama...who could sound better than John Barrymore in A Bill of Divorcement or in Grand Hotel..,..who could sound better in Anna Christie than Garbo......Joan also had one of my favorite voices, each of these voices made it to sound and did their greatest work in talkies...of course than in talkies only: Bette Davis, Kate Hepburn, Gable, Tracy let us face it, you had to have what it took to make it in those earlier days of film, look at the competition....what competition is there today??????????????????????????????????

what is the problem with someone like Bing? he was a nice decent man from what we all could see, i am not trashing ingrid, i grew up in the era where she was being morally judged, i grew up in the era that also condemned liz taylor for steeling debbie reynold's husband, the 1950's were quite different than today....................i still do not like the fact of what those girls did, it has nothing to do with their acting.................... but if you have any comments about Bing, go ahead, fill me in!

It would be very nice if TCM would let us buy this documentary that they showed last week, it would be a great addition to Forbidden Hollywood Vol. 4, along with the uncut and uncensored Mata Hari, it would be a great seller and we all would like to know more about the complicated girls of that time.
