  1. i totally agree with you, it has happened to me too, especially with Queen Christina, i never remember seeing Garbo except as a child when my mom took me to see the re-release of Camille, but when i started watching TCM i became a new fan of many of these stars, it is like i was seeing them when they first came out, thank goodness for TCM and the films!

  2. yes, i agree, although, Garbo is still considered to be the most beautiful and photogenic actress ever on the screen, and yes, she had some formal training she had a scholarship to the Swedish institute of acting, i believe Bergman was formally trained also, GG also did stage work, but Bergman was a different style, Garbo is know for being subtle, remember, she also made the great and difficult transition from silents to sound, that alone is a great accomplishment!

  3. HER FELLOW SWEDE, MISS GARBO, HAD PERFECT FEATURES, CHECK OUT INGRID'S PROFILE, GG WAS PERFECT FROM EVERY ANGLE AND THOSE ARE THE WORDS OF MGM'S CAMERAMEN, IN PARTICULAR, WILLIAM DANIELS, INGRID WAS BEAUTIFUL, YES, BUT IN A DIFFERENT WAY, SHE WAS NOT PERFECT IN THE SENSE OF ALMOST LOOKING LIKE A STATUTE, HAVE YOU EVER CAUGHT GARBO IN MATA HARI??????????????????????????????????????/

  4. why is TCM showing this several times in the next months??????????/

it is set in current times (the 20's) and it certainly lacks the sentiment of the Dumas story (which is based on true characters)

this silent version is on the flip side of the Camille in the Garbo signature box set..i have seen it once is enough! armand is played by valentino, he should have stayed playing shieks!

anyway, it is not such a great film, i do not think it did well either at the box office.

  5. why is TCM suddenly showing the silent version of Camille???/// by the way it is on the DVD in the Garbo signature collection on the other side of Camille.

this one is set in modern dress (the 20's) and is loses the sentiment of the true story by Dumas.

  6. i agree with these 3 "actresses" too

but also, one can add ingrid bergman(her sappy over the top love seens are ridiculous - especially in Notorious (check out her acting at the horse racing scene)

she was not that bad, though, ingrid was for the most part ok

but these three listed in the previous posting rate at the top!

  7. i agree, with all the crisis in japan, the middle east, etc., her passing is not very important news she was 79, look at Harlow dying at 26! i remember hearing about taylor as a child and that she was not very nice to people like debbie reynolds, etc......doesn't anyone want to mention that? how about Burton's marriage too, we all have our skeletons in the closet, so people should think of that stuff too, also the same people that honor her probably castrate joan crawford, because of the nonsense written about her, but about taylor, those are true happenings, at least 2 marriages and homes were broken up by her...that is what i remember from childhood.

  8. can anyone out there publish the outscenes of mata hari....there are stills from the uncut version before the code butchered it, they are stills of Garbo in a see through negligee, if someone could post these pics, it would be an eye opener to many of our folks on this forum,

i do not have the capability myself to post these stills, but if anyone out there could do them, it would be a real awakenening!
