  1. /////how can i get a copy of woman of affairs with the alternate soundtrack other than the one tcm showed this morning
  2. you really sound like you understand Garbo and what she was, "Divine"
  3. catch this gem Garbo silent with Gilbert, it is a beauty to watch and one of scenes in the film is considered by many film critics of the silent era, to be the greatest piece of silent acting....take a look at it this coming week (Friday, i believe at8:45 A.M. ) you can DVDR it and watch it later.............they are both stunning in the film
  4. Ninotchka Queen Christina (some scenes are very witty and funny)
  5. last night they showed Ninotchka, nothing further to be said
  6. let us face it, Garbo should have gotten the oscar for Camille (she was nominated 4 times) give me a break, even Bette Davis said it was a travesty that GG did not win for Camille, also, how about Anna Christie (her first talkie and nomination) Romance in which she plays an Italian opera singer and of course the delightful Ninotchka If you did not play the hollywood game, you never got an oscar unless you were too old to even know, too sick to enjoy or dead............Garbo was a class act all of her life, when she got her honorary oscar for all "her unforgettable performances" in the 1950's, she had safely sort of retired, and she was no longer a threat to her contemporaries. her female counterparts in the film industry usually referred to Garbo as "oh, her"......................they were glad to see her leave, she made them all look average. what a shame that hollywood persecuted her so much that she had to leave at the age of 36!
  7. Mata Hari (uncensored original version) Inspiration Susan Lenox All MIS GARBO films,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,wow
  8. this is obviously NOT a classic movie list, duh
  9. Mata Hari (original uncut version) Susan Lenox. Baby Face
  10. i agree, gilbert with garbo would have been wonderful, however, Gilbert had passed away 3 and half years before Ninotchka, so it could never have been possible, he was wonderful.
  11. catch this silent on sunday night, it is Garbo's first American film - catch it she is a brunette compliments of MGM makeup!

hooray, TCM will be showing Garbo's first American film, it is a gem and look for her as a brunette...it will be on TV the last Sunday in January, Silent Sundays..........and TCM thank you so much for the John Gilbert treat last week - and the interview with his daughter, only it should have been longer!
  14. I cannot make any movie suggestions, anyone else out there having problems??? i have been a member for several years now, no one seems to be able to help me!
  15. i hope it will include some REAL precodes --- Like the original uncut and uncensored Mata Hari, please give the fans at TCM a break and see it for the way it was intended (the film which caused riots when it was released in 1932 before it was cut up and censored by the so-called decency! give me a break, some of those pre-codes are silly! Crawford and Davis made many precodes also so did Stanwyck and do not forget about Susan Lenox with Garbo and Gable, this was another film which caused rumbles in the decent world! These are just some suggestions, mind you, but Garbo and Gable together will sell the DVD set also some very provocative scenes from Mata Haril will intrigue the TCM followers!
  16. i have been a TCM member for almost 3 years, and i have been recently been unable to request a movie, and am constantly being denied my privilege....can anyone out there help me, i have emailed TCM and i never get a reply, what has happened?
  17. this was a horrible film, not worth the electricity to see it, and of course lana is just obnoxious and ridiculous in her 1950's frocks and hairdos! what a laugh!
  18. i have a crush on john gilbert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
  19. i watched this gem last night, and i was so taken with it, the beautiful camera work, on the lake between the leaves of the trees, the beauty is breathtaking, what a joy to see such work on the screen with out the aid of computer tricks, as we have today, this was real filmmaking at its best, john gilbert was truly handsome man, i was swooning, and i am quite on in years, no wonder Garbo was swept off her feet, he was so wonderful to watch, his acting superb, - i luv TCM for giving us this grand creation of the golden age of silents - please put more Gilbert films on TV, especailly, Flesh and the Devil and Love, and my personal favorite, A Woman of Affairs, also, the interview with his daughter, leatrice, was very touching, as a daughter, i can relate to the love for her father that she had, wonderful treat TCM and i love Robert Osborne too!
  20. i have to admit that GG's face got more solemn looking after 1934 - i think it was due to the roles she was playing, Camille is one great example, she changes so many times that it hard to keep up with her - she was great at facial expressions - also, see her in Conquest and she very rarely smiles, Ninotchka i have to disagree with you, she is very humerous and her love scene with Douglas when she cannot tell him that she loves him, that is shear beauty on the screen and her face is far from hard, take a good look, she was very sweet looking in that film, and even in her last film, she is sweet and funny and cheerful to look at, she had manyyears left on her and her face!
  21. it was such a delight to see that restored John Gilbert film last night on Silent Sunday Nights TCM's great feature showings, and the interview of 2009 with Leatrice Gilbert his daughter, he was truly a beautiful handsome man, wonderfully talented actor, and a delight to see on the screen, no wonder Garbo was swept off of her feet, bring on more Gilbert films - we love him!
  22. my suggestions are: silent screen stars: John Gilbert, Greta Garbo (yes, she was in silents too) John Barrymore (yes, him too) talking stars: Barbara Stanwyck, Greta Garbo, Cary Grant, John Barrymore Joan Crawford Marlene Deitrich those are just a few, i think that they are all grand!
  23. Garbo and Taylor in Camille Garbo and Gilbert in Flesh and the Devil Garbo and Gilbert in Woman of Affairs Garbo and Gable in Susan Lenox
  24. i totally agree, taylor and garbo in camille
