  1. he was really very dashing, I never even heard of him, until I started watch Garbo in her silents, he was wonderful, show more of him on Silent Sundays and Ramon Novarro too. Novarro is underrated too, you only hear about Valentino
  2. Gone with the Wind ( it is just comical by today's mentality, the story is ridiculous and the only redeeming acting is Leslie Howard (playing himself, too) Casablanca: it ridiculous and nonsense......who would ever believe such nonsense Citizen Kane: never could get up enough interest to watch it Vertigo: it is over acted and a dumb story Withering Heights: what a nasty, uncaring, vile love story, they destroy themselves and innocent people, what a downer of a story Notorious : another piece of tripe: only Cary makes it good at all INGRID BERGMAN is overrated, and a total bore!
  3. when do they overplay John Gilbert? his films are never on
  4. Overrated films: Casablanca, Citizen Kane, Gone with the Wind (how comical it really seems today), any film with Bette Davis it in, (she is over-rated) VErtigo, Rear Window, The Letter, Dark Victory Underrated films: Camille, Titanic (new version), Ninotchka, Rain (with Crawford) Yankee Doodle Dandy, and any Garbo film (everyone just looks at her and not the films) Silent movies: Underrated: Flesh and the Devil, The Mysterious Lady, A Woman of Affairs
  5. please get this uncut uncensored version out, for goodness sakes!
  6. this is a great powerful film, but i doubt if anyone under 35 today, would get its meaning
  7. Greta Garbo Joan Crawford Gary Cooper Basil Rathbone Norma Shearer Audrey Hepburn Cary Grant James Stewart Kate Hepburn Jean Harlow ALSO JUST AS LONG AS WE KEEP IT CLASSIC!
  8. Casablanca - what is sooooooooooo great about this over sappy lovesick story that is utterly unbelievable..................Bergman is always such a sappy lovesick cow, the only redeaming quality in this film is Bogey - it is a good film, not great!
  9. hey, they were pretty good choices, let TCM repeat - this past year's were duds
  10. give me the great dramatic acting of Garbo, Stanwyck, Tracey, Hepburn, Bogey, Crawford (remember Garbo and Crawford debuted in Silent Films, and made the transition to talkies quite well)......who needs the senseless nonsense of today's garbage for movies....in my opinion the only 2 films in the last decade that I view as great are Titanic and The Great Raid...check them out, besides them, we have the new masterpieces of the remake of King Kong, The Painted Veil and please do not forget Transformers - high art at its fines!
  11. Crawford in any film is worthy of being in a collection.
  12. my choices would be: Ninotchka, Camille, West Side Story, any Barb Stanwyck film, the host with Rob Osborne should be someone who truly understands film, a critic for example, who can give an intelligent critique!
  13. hey, gang, keep the postings coming, we want more pre-code
  14. i think Lucy was ok, she was always sarcastic, and portrayed women on her shows as stupid, and sub serviant to her ignorant stupid husband I love lucy is dated and certainly out of touch with today, she was a B actress in the movies, and did many old comic routines from vaudeville on the tv shows, she copied every great comedy performer before her, and also had questionable political persuasions that almost got her blacklisted.
  15. what could be more dated, stupid and boring than andy hardy, mickey rooney and that over rated has been, garland
  16. Barbara was a grand lady of the screen and so under rated ---she is right up there and could play any role given to her, cheers to Babs
  17. my answer to you is that simply Ms. Garbo only made 26 American films, one Swedish and one German, the other top 4 made at least 100 films or more in their careers, they had longevity over her, she chose to quit at 36, before she embarrassed herself like Ms. Davis playing monster roles, when she was all old and shriveled up, Hepburn always kept her dignity, but the others, they should have quite while THEY were ahead, only Crawford, who is not in the top (and she should be over Bergman) always feel sorry for, Hollywood treated her like dirt, and she was a real star in every sense of the word, so remember, Ms. Garbo only made a handful of films (most of which were junky films if not for her presence) so her ranking is quite remarkable, PS: Clarence Brown who directed most of her films. said that there was no like her nor will there every be another one like her!
  18. i can you say that cagney is bigger than Garbo, she was an international star, of course, but she was also the face of the century.....worked for the Allies during WW2 and is still widely known...i love Cagney, but happy birthday to her always.
  19. happy birthday to the divine one, ms. GARBO herself
  20. The Divine's birthday is this Tuesday and TCM is only showing 3 movies of hers on that day, I know they did a lot for her 100th in 2005, but when are they going to show the Torrent and The Joyless Street, they are masterpieces of silent cinema, come on give us Garbo fans a treat, again Happy Birthday, Garbo
