it must have been heaven to see this film as it was intended, it is a glorious film, and you are right, without Garbo it would not be a classic to th is day, have you ever seen Clarence Brown's comments about their acting on the TCM doc about Garbo? The direction actually is crying as he recalls her and her acting!
-
yes, it has been grand, these are CLASSIC films as nature intended!
-
Garbo received 5 oscar nominations, gave the greatest screen performance of all time in Camille, although some say Anna Karenina, please do not compare a second rate actress and not so much a looker, Garbo is named as the most beautiful woman or ever lived in the Guiness Book of Records, nobody knows who Kay is, today, except us movie buffs, but lots of people know Garbo, give me a break!
-
let us face it, she was queen of the B films as is well documented, she only was great on TV and her show, although i grew up with it, literally, was, as i see now, only a rehash of old vaudeville stunts, she was an ok actress, but came across hard boiled and tough!
-
i stand corrected regarding Ninotchka and that Lubitsch had been in Hollywood, however, one of the script writers was Billy Wilder who had in fact recently fled from Nazi Germany - as has been recently revealed, Greta was also involved in some intelligence work for the Allies during the war - she was very valuable in the fact that she could speak English, German, French and of course neutral Swedish. She was very insistent to LB Mayer that he hire more Jewish film makers from Germany at the time. Again, thanks

does anyone out there know whom we can contact or write to so we can see this grand film in its entirety in what I think is Garbo's most wonderful film, she was at the peak of her beauty and Ramon Novarro was just as wonderful to see

You have to be kidding, Kay was ok, but certainly not in the class of Ms. Garbo!
-
It was on TCM last night, GG turned down Hitchock for this film, so he went out and got an Italian actress to play the part, GG did not want to be portrayed in the film as this heartless killer wife, what a pity, that is only one of many films she turned down in her self imposed retirement, we miss Greta, and wish we had more films of her on screen!
-
Ms. G also turned down The Paradine Case with Hitchcock, it was a perfect role for her in 1947, I get so angry with her for ending her career like she did, sooooooooo young!
-
I have all of her films, take a look at some of them, watch the acting, watch the face, and forget the movie, just watch her and then you will end up having your own GG festival!
-
i agree
-
Most fans do not realized that she started her career in silent films (as a teenager) and at the very end of the silent era, but she is widely regarded as the greatest of all silent screen stars with Chaplin

Happy birthday to the Face of the Century
-
Today would have been her 103rd!
-
Do not forget Ninotchka - it was one of his first movies in the US - he was given work on the film, at the insistence of Greta Garbo who urged Meto and Mayer to help those who were fleeing Naxi Germany.
-
Today is GG's birthday, post your greetings here!
-
Today is her birthday, TCM should have remembered, shame on them!
-
She was under-rated my friend, how many of her films have you even seen, the silents and talkies, when you have seen them all, and watched her face in them all, then get back to me!
-
that would even be better, she is a class by herself, so it would be appropriate.....let us try to find out who we should contact, this movie must be restored!
-
Watch her films over and over and each time you will see in a different way, why she was unparalled in beauty and talent, you do not ever think she is acting, her love scenes were done as no one else ever did, she makes you understand why she loves the man in the scene with her, and as a woman, I see that she could convey a woman's true reactions to the situations her films put her in, she could express every woman's emotions who are in love, or not, or mistreated, or sad or happy, she was the the epitomy of a woman;s emotions, even though, she herself was multi-faceted in her make up personna! A truly gifted and beautiful star!

September 18th is Ms.Garbo's birthday, how could TCM ignore her day? She is the most classic of all classics, you can be showing some of her lesser known films, i.e. Romance, Susann Lenox, Inspiration, - how can you ignore one the stars that make TCM possible??????????????????

Everyone please sign the petition at Garbor4Ever.com - to get the UNCENSORED, UNCUT and really PRE-Code release of Mata Hari on this next volume, Frankly, I do not see what was so "forbidden" about the first 2 volumes......the only film that really went a little overboard, was Baby Face with Stanwyck - the rest of those films were candy coated nonsense - but Mata Hari was so controversial, it was cut and censored by the Hays Code when it was greedily re-released by MGM in 1936 after the code had been installed, the original movie was release in 1932 definitely precode - this film is truly pre-code even in its cut version, let alone the original version which was shown in Brussels two years ago, so it does exist! Let us have REAL prec-code with Mata Hari (1932 version), Rain with Crawford, Susan Lenox, Inspiration (you should get a look at this film) in the opening scene Garbo gives us a lesson on how to seduce! Women of all ages could find this very interesting!
-
there can never be overkill with Garbo
-
TCM is ignoring her birthday this September 18th....ok she was under the stars for a day, but her birthday, at least show us some of the never shown films like Susan Lenox, Conquest, As You Desire Me, these are all great examples of her great and unequaled talent, and not to mention her beauty!
