  1. I last viewed this film as a child about 40 years ago. Until today I could not remember the name of the movie nor the lead characters, Charles Boyer and Claudette Colbert. This is one of my all time favorites, for the subtle humor and heroism of Boyer and Colbert. It speaks to character in a way films don't do today...

  2. I found the name. It was 1937.

    Tovarich (1937)

Ousted from their homeland by the Bolshevik revolution, a royal Russian couple find themselves impoverished and living in Paris. They take positions as butler and housemaid in a wealthy household and, owing to their impeccable breeding and manners, excel in their new jobs. Charles Boyer and ClaudetteColbert. This is a great film for anyone who likes great films!!!

  3. I think you're right. It wasn't 1928 - 1932, it was 1937.

Tovarich (1937) was Boyer's third film with the delightful Claudette Colbert. The two play Russian nobility exiled to France by the 1917 revolution. They take jobs as servants in a French household that is somewhat reminiscent of the American family in "My Man Godfrey."

Thanks. I'm sure it was Claudette Colbert, now. Wow, Boyer and Colbert. Have not seen this film in so long. It has always been in my top ten. I name it the "Film with No Name".

  4. This is a very tough question to answer and ask, but here goes. When I last viewed this film, I was about twelve years old. I am 49 today, so this was nearly forty years ago. Not just that it was forty years ago, but it is quite possible that this film hasn?t run in forty years anywhere. At the time that it ran, it was locally in the Washington, DC area.

The film dated between, 1928 ? 1932. It was a talky. It was about a butler and maid, I think in a household in the US, but it could have been England. The long and short of this, is that these two servants were not just ordinary servants. They were ?monarchy? king and queen of some small nation in Europe. They had abdicated their throne. The time of the incident was 20th century, I supposed between, 1900 ? 1930, a contemporary of the time. At the end of the film, they did something to save their kingdom by signing over millions if not billions of dollars to their nation. This movie at the time that I viewed it, was considered a four star film. It is perhaps a forgotten movie, but one of the great films that I can remember. I had seen it twice. Is there any way anyone can come up with this name? If not, can you point me to some organization who can?
