Keith.....the above is pure perfection. There are so many people in this country like logohater. They hate corporations, they hate big money, they hate war for oil, they hate everything (but c'mon...logos?).........but I've yet to see one of these b*stards put their a*s on the line and get rid of all the comforts that these "evils" bestow upon them. I think these kind of humans must have a cause in their life so when they go to bed at night and cover their heads with their comfy comforters they won't feel as guilty for all they have.
But I'm old enough to have learned that NOTHING will change their attitude. Let them live in their very hypocritical and constant misery.

I believe you are right on classicsfan1119.....that was my original thought when I first read his/her post. But then again....who are we?? We are just the little "TV watchers!"

Oh man.......I am backing up very slowly away from you logohater.
I am willing to bet you have no friends........and if you do......I'm thanking God I never have to meet them.
If you want to exist in this world without supporting the evil empire......you better sell everything you own and live on the street because evil or not it ain't going away and if it did go away......you wouldn't enjoy life. Want to live in a world with nothing to drive, nothing to eat and no electronics being manufactured to play your 5000 movies with.
Your cause gets you nowhere........but what the heck....it passes your time anyway.

You need therapy logohater.........
TCM has to put their logo on the movies they broadcast occasionally.....there are many thiefs out there taping movies and selling them on ebay for huge bucks.......
I can't even imagine you staying calm enough to enjoy a movie.
Oh well... someday when TCM is off the air you will have to find a greater cause than the "money mongering" corporate devils called TCM!
In the meantime.........keep up the good work TCM !

I don't know, after about 5 minutes of wearing 3D glasses, I usually end up cross-eyed and sick in the bathroom. I think I was constructed wrong.

>>ANY NETWORK THAT WOULD PROGRAM OLIVIA DE HAVILLAND & ESTHER WILLIAMS MOVIES OVER AUDREY & RITA IS A NETWORK THAT IS ABOUT TO FOLD!>>
Uh Oh.........I see another "nut" has started to post.
"A network that is about to fold" <----- ?????????????

Why thank you patypancake!! Without even knowing you told me to watch my all time favorite! Bette! And yes......I plan on watching "The Man Who Came To Dinner" (one of my favs) sometime soon......I need a Bette fix!
But to keep positive.....I must add this.......at least if we have to see Elvis in films.......it was the young, good looking Elvis and not the older, overweight, gravy-sweating Elvis he became......that would have really been unbearable.
But kudos to TCM.........I'm sure there were at least 10-20 people on the planet who thoroughly enjoyed the Elvi-thon.
AND......I'm sure there are people (leo) who suffer while I enjoy the Harold Lloyd films! To each his own.

So I admit it. I am a total TCM addict.
I discovered yesterday the extent of my "crack-like" TCM addiction.
I watched Elvis movies............I hated each and every one of them.......but I kept watching........hoping that somewhere I would find the slightest watchable movie.........nope......didn't happen for me.......but what does it matter?
Like the crack addict who hates himself but keeps going back to the pusher.........I kept tuning in to TCM (my pusher) And I watched and I watched and I watched........I was never moved by the films........but man did that guy get to hang with some serious babes!
It was the longest 24 hours of my life. Am I complaining? Maybe.......I'm just trying to come down now........
Man I love TCM..........

Hey........I think you guys might get into this site I just found...... a great character actor site!
http://www.dougmacaulay.com/kingspud/ks_index_gca.html
Hope you enjoy.

So long!! Oh by the way........here's a movie website I think you'll enjoy much more than TCM which you don't deserve.
Bye now

Just as a P.S. to my earlier post.......I am having many problems and I AM on AOL........
Tom

There are 100 cable stations out there that play films like "Pulp Fiction". Please TCM ignore this poster!!
I'll take the 20's to early 50's "riff raff" ANY day over most films since 1960........I find a bad Andy Hardy film to be more entertaining than anything Tom Cruise has ever done.
Break loose and go buy some DVD's !

I have been having many problems with the log-in lately as well. .......I type my password and it opens a new blank window...when I go back to the boards I am still not signed in......I repeat this a few times and suddenly at some point I am logged in!
Oh well......keep showing great movies with no commercials and I won't complain too much about this inconvenience!
-
Hey Ford........it was a 9 minute 1943 WB short called "Ozzie Nelson and his Orchestra" Directed by Jean Negulesco.....there is no place to get it except to hope TCM shows it again.......it's a great short!

Thank you Path40A !!!!!!! I also was going to type a reply about this but I wouldn't have said it with as much class as you did!
btw.........A Face In The Crowd is in my top 50!

Oh brother Inhonorofpop..........now you are totally cracking me up.........so your whole problem is his "bait & switch" tactic??
So the fact that you were trying to obtain free copies of movies illegally should be overlooked so that we can tar and feather Gagman? Here's the one line you neglected to post: "Let's keep to the main issue here and not find me guilty of trying to obtain copyrighted material at no cost" ! ! !
Here is the bottom line Inhonorofpop: If Gagman had sent you these illegal copies for just a shipping charge........you would have been a happy camper and I'm sure you wouldn't want to be reporting him to TCM and The Harold Lloyd Estate. BUT....because he used the "bait and switched" tactic and tried to make a few bucks off of it he is a criminal and you are squeaky clean...........and he should be reported........how convenient.
I am still not condoning the bait and switch if that indeed is happening.......it is not right........but you are starting to appear a tad defensive!
Wow........how we all fall short........
-
Although I read most of the posts on this entire message board, I don't post here that often but I have to step in here and defend Gagman a bit..............
I personally have recorded a ton of stuff off of TCM on DVD...... and I never offer the stuff for any kind of money.......but I also get many requests and most of the time (99%) I do not make any copies of anything for anyone........and if I do...(very rarely.....I can count the total on one hand)...it is because I want to and I don't even charge them shipping..........and also the few times I have done this it is something that has NEVER been available commercially........
My job happens to be in the music business and I understand many aspects of copyright law and I respect it............BUT........I have bought many bootlegs off of ebay (sometimes at outrageous prices) because there are many films that will never be shown on TCM, never have been or will be offered commercially, and it is the only way I will ever be able to watch it...........I happen to appreciate the fact that I can obtain some of these treasures via ebay.......
Now...some of these dealers are just plain criminal......they say the movies are great copies and charge a fortune and you get the video and it's fuzzier than a Bear...........others are offering very modest prices and are doing it more as a service out of their love for movies.......
My whole point here is I have seen all of Gagman's post and they have not offended me........
It appears to me that Inhonorofpop was upset that he was going to have to pay for something that he was trying to get for free....... If it is dishonest for Gagman to offer movies for some profit because he is breaking copyright laws.........it is just as dishonest for Inhonorofpop to be emailing Gagman to get his free copies!
And one more thing......all of Inhonorofpop's threats.......let's contact TCM......let's contact the Harold Lloyd estate................are ridiculous........what's next.......let's contact the FBI? Let's have a McCarthy hearing?
If you don't like or are offended by Gagman's offers, move on to the next message.......that's what I do!

Hello Vondak.........the movie in question is called "Madame X"......there are quite a few versions..........1929's starring Ruth Chatterton and Lewis Stone..............1937's starring Gladys George and Warren William........1966's starring Lana Turner and John Forsythe..........there are other versions but I venture to say it was one of these 3 that you saw!

Hello.........it may be an MGM film from1942......"I Married An Angel" starring Jeanette MacDonald & Nelson Eddy......

Hey David..........the name of the short was "Shoe Shine Boy"....from 1943.....the musician's name was Melvin Bryant and it was the only appearance he ever made in film......it was a pretty good little flick....

Well........I'm 40 but I feel older!!......I've always been into the movies and music of the 1920's to 40's....... there is just something about that time period........maybe we have things too easy these days.......maybe it was the depression followed by WW2.....I don't know, I wasn't there but I'll take Louis Armstrong blowing his horn in the late 20's over almost anything I hear today.......and I'll take an old B-movie over almost any new movie every time.........
The day I realized I may have been born in the wrong generation was the day I discovered the original lineup of the mid 1930's to 1944 singing group "The Ink Spots".......an incredible vocal group........well I was all excited and asked my 70 year old parents what they thought of the Ink Spots and their reply was......."Oh honey.......they were before our time".......yikes..

LOGO Covers Sub-Titles AGAIN!!!
in General Discussions
Posted
I'd like to have another go at this......
Do I like Logos? No, I don't.....in fact...I hate them too.......but in the world of cable TV where every station I know uses logos......it becomes crystal clear to me that the these logos are not going away!!!!!
So.....if we have to live with the occasional logo during the running of these films we enjoy so much.......I'll take TCM's logo over any other one I've ever seen......The TCM logo could be blue, green or red and spinning all the time........can you imagine that? At least theirs is almost transparent and basically colorless......
I work in the field of music licensing and while discussing this logo biz with a client, he informed me that all cable carriers now require all channels to have logos for a certain amount of time per hour.......I can't verify if this is true or not but it wouldn't surprise me.
As far as being grateful to TCM........I for one am grateful to TCM...... like it or not and I know some will disagree with me but TCM would have higher ratings across the board if they showed more of the 70's & 80's films...... I know I wouldn't be watching but the average American Joe is going to turn on "Rocky 3" on a Saturday night quicker than "The Passion of Joan of Arc" (which was FABULOUS by the way!).........
One more thought and I think I've stated this here before......I am 41 years old and happen to be blessed with a lot of friends my age and I have only 1 friend that would even be slightly interested in watching black & white movies from the 20's-50's..........they all think I'm nuts.........and I find that younger people have even less interest in these old movies.....(there's always exceptions of course like the fine young people I've met through these boards!)..........but the bottom line is........TCM ain't going to be around for long so enjoy it while it lasts, record as much as you can and don't sweat the dang logo so much!
