Boy would I love to see a 24 hour period dedicated to "shorts" especially the Vitaphone shorts. Also would love to see a cartoon marathon.

Keep in mind that on January 21, they paid tribute to one of the stars that passed away so the lineup was not the following at least during the day......I remember this because I really wanted to tape "Elmer The Great"
In January
21 Friday
Elmer The Great (1933)
No Other Woman (1933)
Hideaway (1937)
Dragon Seed (1944)
Humoresque (1946)
The Beast With Five Fingers (1946)
The Fugitive (1947)
The Court-Martial of Billy Mitchell (1955)
The Pawnbroker (1965)
Cry Terror (1958)
The Umbrellas Of Cherbourg (1964)

VERY excited here! !! ! ! !! !!

Great Post Stoney!
I just think Ben is so contrived feeling.......it's so obvious what TCM is trying to do regarding him and that is why it doesn't work.
If they had a young hip kid who was nuts about old movies and we saw a sincere passionate kid excited about the movies it would have a better chance at grabbing the younger generation.
Now personally, I still don't think TCM has much of a shot attracting the young - raised on gameboy, computers, attention deficit disorder youth of America......anybody watch MTV lately?
Face it........TCM is mostly for the 40 and up group with a few exceptions...(my 7 year old daughter being one...I am working on the brainwashing....).......and TCM is not going to stay the way they are now for much longer.............you can argue it but it's a fact.
-
Hello.....
I'll try to be as nice as I can. Ben may be a nice guy and might be a good guy to have a beer with but as far as his job at TCM......I just can't stand the guy........he has a snotty-nosed condescending attitude and a certain measure of "I'm modern and I'm cynical".........it quickly wears thin.
I can't help but think.......no wait......I KNOW he would NEVER have the job he has were it not for his last name. Now.....put him on "The Man Show" on comedy central where cynicism rules and he may be perfect.
As far as him attracting the youth in droves to TCM.......I just can't imagine it's working.
And again I must state I am talking about his job performance not about who he is as a human.
-
"TCMprogrammer, is it possible for you to show every single black and white pre-code movie ever made in Hollywood? Thank you very much"
I don't think that would be too difficult Stoney! And I second that notion!!!!
-
They have shown "Two Seconds" on TCM a couple of times and it is an awesome film!!!!! Edward G's performance is fantastic.

I think it was supposed to read like this Leo:
"Frankly, I missed my medication and have been institutionalized."
Tom <-----keeping his mouth shut because he has nothing good to say about Leo as of yet.
-
<
Yes you could but what you are thinking about is recording over a pre-recorded movie.........what we are talking about is making a DVD copy of a pre-recorded VHS tape as a back-up........some of the older VHS tapes didn't use Macrovision (copy protection) so you can make back-ups.....but most since around 1995 are very protected.
We should be allowed to make a back-up copy for our own use of a movie we purchased, but once again the criminals always seem to mess things up for the rest of us.
-

Hey MovieJoe.....the little secret they DON'T tell you about the above models is that if it is a commercially bought VHS movie that has protection on it, you still can't make a DVD copy of it on those units.
But the stuff you've recorded on TCM can be made into DVD's using the above.

Finally Leo is making sense! I've thought all along that if we read it our mouths would become "dumb".......
Thanks for the advice Leo......now I really really really DON'T want to read it. I like my mouth the way it is thank you.
-
I just thought this would be a great thread to discuss silents.......ya know....we could recommend great silents for Leo to hate....I mean see!
Hey Leo? You MUST check out the 1928 film "The Passion Of Joan Of Arc".
Being such an accomplished writer/artist as you are, I'm sure it will knock you right out of your pretend Rolls!
-
MAN........how great would it be to REALLY get Brad Pitt a copy of that crappy novel!!!!!!
Brad would probably respond the way we all do.
WHY ME???????
-
And Leo's got a better shot at W.C. Fields showing up for his book signing than any living person........
And anyway.......How could Leo possible sign books? He can't spell!
Leooh Bertococky?
-
So Cool ML!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow.........a thread just for the fine subject we like to call Leo!!!!!!!!
Hey Leo? You're a phony.
That felt kinda good!
-
Many times the following is said about actors/actresses: "They can make you laugh and they can make you cry".......but I must say personally that Ms. Colbert does it best for me. It's that face of hers......she can be so darn funny and she can be a total tear-jerker.
I'm really looking forward to seeing some of her films I haven't seen!!!!!
Thanks TCM!
-
Why Me?
-
Leo? Don't you have a press conference to attend? For a guy who is having actors fight over who will star in the film adaptation of your crappy novel......you sure have a lot of time on your hands.
-
<<<>>>
Yes, Leo.....because after all.......TCM is only looking to have illiterate, washed-up self promoting egotistical asteroid orifice authors on these boards. You fit the bill and sorry to say you'll be alone. You keep saying there are "a few" fools on these boards.......Leo...I haven't found one person who likes you here yet......anyone???????? Please......step forward and defend Leo!
-
Personally, I'd like to smoke crack with Robert Downey Jr.......
-
I also recently rented "The More The Merrier" from netflix.......man what a GREAT film!!!!!!! Charles Coburn is beyond perfect!
I kinda wish I had seen "The Devil and Miss Jones" before "The More The Merrier" because although it was very good too....."merrier" was just fantastic.
Man why can't we get ahold of more Jean Arthur films?
-
Hey Stoney.......I use FileMaker Pro......it is a pretty easy program to use if you are sticking with the basics.....but it can get as complicated as one can dream up.
I can sort by any field I want....ex: title, year, director, genre, length, production studio etc......it makes finding a movie simple! And as I approach 4000 titles, simple is a good thing!
