Sorry, it has never been released on video or DVD. I believe copyright is shared by The Harold Robbins Production Inc. and Universal. Or it might just belong to one of the two. Most likely (although I am not 100% sure.) it is Universal.
-
Gene Kelly - just don't like him, can't really explain it. I've taken to steering clear of his movies. Lon Chaney Sr. - again, I can't explain it, I just don't like his movies, although I always try to watch them when they are on. Katherine Hepburn - Good actress, but the "greatest". I do watch her movies.

I see listed for 2004 or 2005 After the Thin Man (36) and Another Thin Man (39). I don't see anything about a set.

per Fox Movie Channel. The only movies they can show are ones leased to them by 20th Century Fox. They do not own any movies themselves.

-
I believe the Selznick Library is owned by Disney.
-
Released by Turner Home Ent. in 1990 on VHS. Now out of print. Several dealers list it at Amazon marketplace. Not released on DVD.

How many is too many. Most months TCM shows 4 or 5 silents, depending on how many Sundays are in the month. Chaplin being the star of the month pushes that number up. Personally, I feel they need to increase the number of silents. As for Abbott and Costello, the only two in the library are in Hollywood and Meets Captain Kidd. Most of the Abbott and Costello films are owned by Universal, which is owned now by NBC, which also happens to own in part AMC, so if they leased them out, they would be helping the enemy (so to speak).

TCM & the Universal Hitchcock Films
movieslover1000 replied to wsfrink86's topic in General Discussions
Well, I don't know about ALL of them, but there is a number they are showing. Can't really be to picky when it comes to what Universal movies are shown anymore, with NBC now owning them. -
For any who missed it, Lady for a Day is listed twice in May. May 9 10:15 PM May 18 7:45 AM

Maybe no letterbox versions exist. Maybe Pan and Scan was all TCM was able on lease from Fox. No, Misty does not air on Fox Movie Channel. As for 'creating' a letterbox version from the P&S print. Do you think Fox would lease any more movies to TCM if they took the print they were permitted to use (P&S), then changed it in to something else (Letterbox). This seems to be a case were they took what they could get to air, and let aspect ratio fall to the way side. After all, when leasing, its the right's holder to say what print you can show.

Opera, circus and Races are all listed in the TCM library. Circus will play in April, the other two aren't upcoming. Also listed in the TCM libary are Room Service, Go West, and Big Store.

Why Some Titles Never Seem To Air??
movieslover1000 replied to maperette's topic in Information, Please!
High and the Mighty has never been on TCM. Rocky Mountain, I don't know. -
The Ma and Pa Kettle Series is owned by Universal. Since Universal is owned by NBC now, and NBC has at least part ownership of AMC, I really look for Universal owned films to start declining on TCM. There are two different Charlie Chan groups. The films made by 20th Century Fox, which is almost a sure thing they will not lease them. Then there's the Monogram group. Who holds their rights, I don't know.
-
Possible, though not likely. The film is a Columbia release.

Great Expectations is a UK title whose American distribution was picked up by Universal. Brief Encounter is also a UK title with Paramount, it appears, as the U.S. rights distributor. Both are available from Criterion DVD for the ridiculous price of $39.95 for no feature discs. TCM plays a foreign movie on Friday nights, usually about 2 A.M. eastern (officially, its Saturday morning)and occasionally Silent Sunday is a foreign title. The two movies are both available used on VHS. -

Final Countdown released in 1980 with Kirk Douglas, MArtin Sheen and Katherine Ross. Coming to DVD on March 23. -
Here's a break down of movies that are lost, and what studio they came from. Weather this is a complete and true accounting I don't know. Columbia 1928: 1 of 2 1929: 3 of 18 1930: 0 1931: 3 of 36 1932: 3 of 42 1933: 0 1934: 0 1935: 0 First National 1928: 2 of 9, maybe 2 others 1929: 31 of 44 1930: 13 of 36 1931: 5 of 30 1932: 0 1933: 1 of 22 (Convention City) 1934: 0 1935: 0 Fox 1927: 0 1928: 9 of 17 1929: 36 of 54 1930: 5 of 46 1931: 0 1932: 1 of 42 1933: 1 of 40 1934: 0 1935: 0 MGM 1928: 6 of 18 1929: 10 of 49 1930: 2 1931: 0 1932: 0 1933: 1 1934: 0 1935: 0 Paramount 1928: 9 of 11 1929: 10 1930: 2 (1incomplete) 1931: 0 1932: 0 1933: 0 1934: 0 1935: 0 Path 1928: 2 of 8 1929: 8 of 25 1930: 3 of 14 1931: 0 1932: 0 RKO 1928: 4 of 6 1929: 3 of 18 1930: 3 of 16 1931: 1 of 15 1932: 0 1933: 0 1934: 0 1935: 0 Sono Art World Wide 1929: 6 of 24 1930: 5 of 16 1931: 5 of 8 1932: 1 1933: 0 Tiffany 1928: 1 of 3 1929: 10 of 17 1930: 3 of 29 (another incomplete) 1931: 1 1932: 0 United Artist 1928: 2 of 7 1929: 3 of 18 1930: 3 of 16 1931: 1 of 15 1932: 0 1933: 0 1934: 0 1935: 0 Universal 1928: 2 of 5 1929: 32 of 72 1930: 4 of 35 1931: 2 of 24 1932: 2 1933: 0 1934: 0 1935: 0 Warner Bros. 1928: 17 of 25 1929: 25 of 41 1930: 8 of 34 1931: 2 of 26 1932: 0 1933: 0 1934: 0 1935: 0 The site I complied these numbers from does not go beyond 1935, but I would imagine the numbers stay low. I always thought that the 50% included the silents. Maybe it doesn't

The March listings as far as date are concerned are accurate, the 2nd hasn't been scheduled yet. On the text version, the dates are correct, only the days of the week are off.
