That's funny, its hard imagining Coop as a "rebel". I guess that "Aw shucks" stuff was just an act (Coop was a better actor then some people think)

When I suggested watching The Love Boat (to see classic stars) I didn't mean it would be enjoyable

If you want to see classic actors/actresses just watch "The Love Boat".

I have to explain. When I was typing in an earlier comment I said "he" when I meant "she" . Only caught that typo after I entered the comment. In the minute or so it took me to change the entry, finance (who was lurking overhead like the eagle looking for prey) swooped down and called me on it. Watch out people, Big Brother is out there.

I've never been quite clear on this, but I have the impression that Humphrey Bogart (who I know could be quite difficult to get along with) and William Holden never got along, dating back to when Holden was a young actor. So I wonder how they ended up together all of those years later and in a storyline where they had to work together a lot. Both were very big box office in the 50's so either guy could do his own film and do quite well. In those situations you only needed one "big" star and the other guy could be chosen from a big list of supporting actors. Anyone out there who can comment further on this?

The cable channel Movies! had *Sabrina* on tonight. I know its a popular film but the casting seems very bizarre to me. Bogart and a "blonde" William Holden (brothers?) romancing a young Audrey Hepburn. Bogie is 54/55 and she's 24. And Bogie is no Cary Grant. Grant was one of the few "old" guys who could be believable with a much younger woman. And the real funny thing is Bogart couldn't stand either of his costars. It would have been interesting to be a fly on the wall while they were making that film. Edited by: mrroberts on Sep 26, 2013 2:10 AM

the 1936 Duesenberg SSJ model was so special only 2 were made. Clark Gable and Gary Cooper were the 2 original owners. I was at the Auburn museum several years ago, some awesome cars are there.

That previous remark was meant for another thread , but finance will understand.

Are you looking over my shoulder while I'm typing? Beware of what happens to people who use a grapefruit to assault other people. Who do you think worked Cagney over at the end of the film (hint, was it Mae Clarke?)
-
Look at what happened to Cagney when he couldn't pay his hospital bill !

Which June Allyson film will you pick, finance? I want to hear you tell RO how you admire her so much.

Maybe she's just acting. Edited by: mrroberts on Sep 25, 2013 6:09 PM

Barbara Stanwyck, Joan Crawford, and Bette Davis had a few occasions to work with younger guys.

I should remember that Mickey is in one of my favorite films, *The Bridges At Toko-Ri* , and he plays a very good part in that one. In 1932 , when Mickey was only about 12, he costarred with Tom Mix in *My Pal, The King* . Mickey was the "king" and his aunt was played by my main gal, Noel Francis. I wonder if he would remember anything about that movie and working with her? I have that movie on DVD and I'm sure that TCM played it recently.

Good point about Jean Arthur, she always looked a little younger than her age (I'm sure she would appreciate that comment). In a number of films she was older than her male costar, how often did that happen, the gal older than the guy? Edited by: mrroberts on Sep 25, 2013 12:40 PM

How about that famous photo of Mickey with Jayne Mansfield?

I have to take up speed typing!

I never saw this film but it sounds like a good one. *The Story On Page One* from 1959 and stars Rita Hayworth (how could you forget that part )

I'm just speculating here but I believe Drew may be a little more knowledgeable then she appears. Its her manner and how she expresses herself (the valley girl thing) that people may question. She certainly is a talented actress so she has credibility there. I wonder just how well some of our talented "classic" actors and actresses of years past would do in a commentary role today. There were probably more than a few "airheads" out there, we just never knew that.

If Don Knotts wasn't in the movie he probably drove the patrol car out of Mayberry and got lost again. No GPS in those days. -

How about "McHale's Navy Joins The Air Force" ? Explain that one eh? Especially when in WW2 there was NO Air Force, just the Army Air Corp. (Love that song, they even used it in Mister Roberts) -
Swithin, are you referring to Van (The Green Hornet) Williams? I know he's still with us.

At least Jean had more screen time than Lucy Look at Jean Arthur's resume. She did a ton of movies before *The Whole Town's Talking* . The girl really paid her dues. She was really good in *The Ex Mrs Bradford* with my main man William Powell. I believe she worked almost as well with him as Myrna Loy did. Edited by: mrroberts on Sep 23, 2013 10:22 PM

Anyone out there remember Cagney, Billy Bishop, or the RCAF?
