good early afternoon bronxie and sweet april!!!!
yes i think the other versions are good, but none of the other actors with the exception of Colin Firth could capture the characters as thoroughly as i expected them to do. i especially loved mary boland and edmund gwynn as mr. and mrs. bennett. they got under each other's skin so much that they couldnt help but love each other. heehee!....sort of like lizzy and darcy.
they did a great job with their parts and in the other versions i kept wanting to see them play the parents and donald sutherland in the most recent version just didnt cut it. im not much of a donald sutherland fan, but i didnt mind him in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but to me he wasnt the best choice for being Mr. Bennett. -
*I love the Greer version also, but I think that Ms butterscotchgree is a wee bit little prejudiced about which version of Pride and Prejudice that she like best !*
kenny darlin! how are ya? im sorry, but greer doesnt show her "gams" in this movie. heehee!

i may be just a wee bit prejudice, but who isnt these days? heehee! you know you think this is the best version.

-
Pride and Prejudice is a master piece of a movie! it is one of the greatest romance movies of all time and the original in 1940 is the best version i have ever seen. i have seen every version of it and by far greer garson and larry olivier make the best appearances of ELizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy.

well said dahlink! that does make frankie right behind the eight ball doesnt it? well why dont you grab the stick and hit it?! heehee!
-
hey april, i think we should start a pride and prejudice thread! what do you think? maybe we can get more supporters!

ill tell you exactly what i expect....i except, generosity, truthfullness, and i must say that i except exactly the same thing from persons of high descent. good day, honey boy!......
mr, darcy may not have to explain his actions, but we expect you to explain yours!

Sorry! I just wish y'all would stop sending me all these darn Coop photos. I get the
point, he's a man who looks pretty in make-up. I agree with you!
were sorry, but we cant help it. it just comes naturally with the territory. we have to get you to concentrate somehow. heehee!
april, youre gonna have to show us some of those ads you have in that book. it sounds exciting!
angie, that coop ad, is wonderfully gorgeous! i started giggling when i saw it. yeah he would have liked that cologne. apparently he didnt think that in Bluebeard's Eighth Wife when the store clerk offered him some. heehee!
i had to watch it when it came on this morning. i recorded it just in case it was better quality like ang did too. heehee!

I think "LIZA" has something to say about you both...
um, i have information to the contrary...she was describing Mr. Darcy's snobbery......"to offer one's friendship, and at the first test of loyalty, withdraws it."......if i recall. heehee! she even giving you the eye brow raise!
doesnt that line remind you of a certain honey boy around here sweet april? hmmmmmmm.
-
So the evidence is piling up against Mr Grimes, eh Miss Hopscotch? I think soon we'll have quite a case against the Philadelphia, Pennsylvannia Dutch Lawyer.
you know sweet april i believe you are right! i guess well let the evidence pile up even more. its so much fun to mock him. heehee!
-
Joan Blondell is my favorite in the film but I also like Coleen Gray, who reminds me of Sweet T. Without checking Ty's filmography (Goddess lazy), I think I have only seen Nightmare Alley and The Razor's Edge. I do not like Ty's "Larry Darrell" except for his philosophy on life.
yucky! joan blondell? i dont like her very much. she always had an attitude to me in all her films except the one with Greer in Adventure. she was a sweetie in that one, but in Support Your Local Gun Fighter, she was this fiesty annoying mean woman. heehee! of course this is my opinion, b.c i know youll side with joan anyday. i didnt ike her too much in Nightmare Alley either. heehee!
frankie, you need to see Ty as Zorro...honestly, he is one really cute Zorro! and the movies is reat great, you might like it!

how loverly!!

You are bullheaded and you possess awful taste but you are not snippy, pushy, or wrongheaded, Miss Mutt.
thats it, i cant hold it in any longer.....im puppy dog pouting!
I'll have to add pushy to your list.
yeah, yeah, youre really pushing it!
But why would you wish any harm to me? All I do is lavish you with lovely sentiments.
did you just black out, or did you actually pay attention to the first thing you said above this sentence?
I said you were bullheaded and that you possess awful taste. Those are lovely sentiments when it comes to you.
REALLY pushing it!
okay, april, frankenstein is ready and he doesnt suspect a thing......1....
Put your pretend doll down and get back to your room.
thats it! ready april......3! oh look at that huge splash!
But Sweet T is a femme fatale princess whose long black gloves are dripping in blood.
Langue sale pareil!
how can you be a femme fatale princess at the same time?
That's after she drowns them in her eyes.
i have a tear! i dont drown anyone in my eyes!
It's also a wonderful way to watch trashy pomp and priss. I mean, look at this snobbery...
hey, you might wanna watch it frankie, i love that dance! and such vandelizing evil is one who thinks elizabeth would shoot anyone with her bow and arrows....yet more evidence by the way!
-
That's a step up for me. I'm usually being told, "aller au diable."
no i'll leave that special phrase to sweet April. mine is simply, "partir en vacances!"
Then take your hands away from your puppy dog eyes.
my hands are crossed in front of me. heehee!
I'm being completely honest! That's what I do best. Goodness! So do you think I'm going to dislike Pride and Prejudice even more than Random Harvest? Does "Liza" kill all the snobs with her bow and arrow at the ball? I hope so.
you dont dislike Pride and Prejudice at all, do you frankie? of course not. heehee! and excuse me, but never call her "liza". it would be okay to call her "lizzy" though, b/c mr, darcy does at the end, and so does her family. mr. collins called her "liza", yucky! and HA! thats another piece of evidence against you! heehee!
now why would she kill the "snobs" at the ball? she only uses her dexterity with the bow and arrow for good, not evil!
In my world. You should know by now that I'm always right. I'm a guy and you're a girl, and guys are always right. That's the way of things. Don't tell me Jane Austen tells you differently.
guys are always what? im sorry i didnt quite catch that last word...if you say what i think you just said, you are looking for a big hi-yah and a face full of honey!
I've been singing that one today.
i believe it! figures, you like that song. heehee!
What have you been singing? And don't you say Celine Dion
well if you want me to lie......goodness!
i sang a couple celine songs, a couple doris day songs. i just finished watching The Ballad of Josie with DD, althought it has none of her singing in it.

Vous ?tes en difficult?, parce que vous avez g?r?s en moi.
partir en vacances!
*Well then open your puppy dog eyes, Puppy Dog Eyes.*
they are open, unfortunately. heehee!
Nuh-uh! I'm being very honest. I have only found four caps for Pride and Prejudice on the Net. I'll have to see if I can find any more.
you liar you! you know you have seen it, just admit it silly goose or youre gonna sink!
Zodiac is a lover's lane film! It's highly romantic.

I have not seen Pride and Prejudice and I shall never.
your nose is growing AND your pants are smoking!
No, I'm not talking about Smithy's rampage in Random Harvest. I wouldn't watch such trash.
not that om actually believeing smithy would ever do such a thing, but you wouldnt watch smithy's rampage, but you WILL watch Zodiac? oh brother!

German?! The only kind of girl that's snippier than a German girl is a Texan. And Lord help anyone who runs into a German Texan girl. There is nothing worse. They are snippy, pushy, demanding, bullheaded, and wrongheaded... on their good days.
actually im german, french, and english, among other things. heehee! so there! im not bullheaded or wrongheaded! am i demanding? i am not!
april its a good thing you have the chocolate bubling, push him in! NOW! heehee! wait, ill push him in with you. on the count of three!
Uh-huh. I see that you remain under the spell of a Finishing School girl. You need saving. I'd love to save you, but you have killed me more times than one can count.
thats because you havent died yet. you have always escaped somehow.banana oil! heehee!

I can't get Youtube on dialup so I couldn't here what you posted. Was it the Blue Gardenia song? Or did he ever actually record that? I meant to say something about Nat in my earlier post. The song in the movie has a wonderfully nostalgic lilt to it.
oh im sorry! yes it was Nat singing The Blue Gardenia in the movie. i have it on one of my records of his, but i dont know if it was released as a compilation of his songs. maybe he did record it on an actual record of his. ill have to look that up.
Did anybody mention "Sweet Lorraine"? There's a jazzy informality to that song I love. How to describe that wonderful voice.
"sweet lorraine"!! i love sweet lorraine, the first timei heard this i was at grandmama's house of course. she was humming it while cleaning the kitchen and i didnt know what it was at the time, so now whenever i hear it i can always hear her humming it in the song along with the regular music. isnt that weird? heehee!
-
You should feel guilty. All I do is tell you how sweet you are, and what do I get from you? Drownings. I guess the chocolate is the sweetness, not you. I was hoping and wishing you would not be spoiled by snippy and indecorous girls, but the damage has been done.
too bad, we used unsweetened chocolate, so it couldnt be that. heehee! im not spoiled by the "snippy and indecorous" girls you claim that they are....they are sweet and innocent! and you know it!
Stop that! You know that's my kryptonite.
heehee! why do you think i do that? actualy it was an accident the first time.
I haven't watched the film nor do I plan to. I must uphold my sterling reputation, don't you know?
you know you saw it, and you know you like it. you know it is a genius of a film and you know GWTW is too. you are just afraid that people will think you are effeminate, when you really arent.
what reputation is that? watching bloody movies that scare people to death and make them jump so high that you have to scrape them off the ceiling? how appalling and ghastly!

hey dahlink! if you havent already seen it. here is viv accepting her oscar for GWTW on youtube. it is marvelous and she is so beautiful!

Pride and Prejudice (1940) A TRUE Romance!
in Films and Filmmakers
Posted
good day honey boy!
*You have seen every Pride and Prejudice, ButterscotchLIZA? Could you talk about what you like and dislike about each of them. I have yet to see any of them nor do I plan on watching any of them, but I'd love to hear your opinions.*
yes i have! as soon as i saw the original and read the book, i told myself that i had to see EVERY version to compare them all. one of the things i dearly looooooved about the Colin Firth version was that they showed the wedding at the end! a double wedding between jane and lizzy. sighs!!!
i just loved actually getting to see the wedding! it is always so exciting.
dont get me wrong, i love how the original ended.....how romantic! i cry every time! heehee!
i didnt like the UK production very much. it wasnt the same as the 1995 and 1940 versions. it just didnt have the spirit i wanted it to have, plus i had no idea who the people were in it. heehee! that might have a little something to do with it.
the most recent one in 2005....how do i put this....i have to be honest. i fell alseep watching it. heehee! it was an accident! honest! i didnt want to, but keira knightly just ruined my elizabeth bennett for me. although i did like the love scene in the end when they finally confess their love for each other, but even that scene wasnt as great as the original for me. matthew macfadyen didnt have much chemistry with keira and they just didnt click like larry and greer did especially, and like colin and jennifer ehle also.
i have also seen the 2003 version, which is the same thing except it is modernized. i didnt like it at all. it was set in the modern day with modern clothes and the language....oh! kam heskin, who played elizabeth bennett wasnt half bad, and neither was orlando seale as mr, darcy, but you just cant comapre this version to any of the other ones, b/c it is SO different. it was cute as a modern love story, but not as the Pride and Prejudice i know set in the 1700s.
