  1. i love sonja henie's movies. i think she was very underrated as an actress and people leaned more toward great skater as her great characteristic. but i do love her skating! she won three gold medals in the Olypics! how amazing! she always told a story with her skating. some skaters are just plain with no grace and gift of flowing to the rhythm of the skating, but she always had that.

  2. I loved all the dance sequences in that quaint little town. I've always wanted to live somewhere cute like that. I liked Van in this too! The only thing I wasn't so crazy about was Cyd. It just didn't seem like her heart was in the role. I don't think she was giving it all she could. It's not just me, right? Did anyone else notice? Over all though, it was great!

thank you genekgirl!! cyd's heart wasnt in this role. she could have put a little more thought in to it, but the movie in general i love! i just dont like cyd charise in more of her films. to me, she wasnt that great of an actor. she was pretty and could dance though.....i do like her in The Harvey Girls.

  3. He looks GREAT in a trench coat! Actually, lots of actors did: Mitchum, Gable, Coop, Alan Ladd...

oh yes! i thank you for posting that pic! i especially love allan ladd in the trench coat. he looks so HANDSOME in the with the hat and everything like robbie. what a man! i thi nk gary looks exceptionally handsome in the trenchcoat, but then i prefer him in overalls, evidently, sicne my dreams all have him in them, heehee!

i wish they didnt throw him in that barrell in the first place! i started to talk to the screen, "where did robbie go?!" heehee!

  4. I wanted to add that the exceptions might be The Cain Mutiny, The Two Mrs Carrolls

and In a Lonely Place, where Bogie played neurotic characters that by their nature

    tended to overreact to situations.

well over look those little details for bogie's sake. heehee! but for characters such as "neurotic" as they are, that quality is sort of the exception to the overacting rule isnt it?

  5. very TRUE! Casablanca is far from my favorite movie, but bogie in particular is very good in it, his emotion isnt boiling over, but it is very collective and you really see it all in his faces. he has a VERY emotional face and you can always see what he is thinking in his face. i love that about bogie, especially in The Maltese Falcon. i always wondered if he was really in love with mary astor there, b/c he gave her up at the end! of course she may have deserved it, but i wonder if he didnt want to do that in the first place.

  6. i did! i did! i wanted to see it so badly, i hadnt ever seen it before. i dont think it is my fav of robbie's movies, but it is at least loverly to see him so gorgeous in it. i did wish they would have centered around him and merle a little more also.

thanks for those caps, april, i jsut love his handsomeness!

  7. It's always that way, people who never really watch the movies they criticize. I have

been dragged to enough modern bloody and violent movies that I feel I have every

freedom to speak against how trashy they are but when knuckleheads start attacking

classic movies and the style of acting (which actually was highly individualistic

back then---after the mid-thirties there was no one particular style of acting dominating

all the studio players across the board) when they've never even sat down and really

watched anything, then I could spit!. Or if they have watched some, it's with that filter

through which they see everything, a jaundiced and attention-deficited filter. I"ve heard

the "over acting" cry alot, too. I always marvel at that because part of the reason

I am unimpressed by many newer actors and actresses today is they think an

emotional or angry scene has to played SCREAMING their brains out. I get so frustrated

because that to me is a sign of an amateur. Underplaying, if anything, was more

    emphasized in older films---not overplaying.

thank you sweet april! i completely agree. most people today that i know of, think that you have to "show too much emotion" to get anything played across the screen. they think it will get more people's attentions, but in reality, they dont realize how overly done it is. its almsot rediculous how much screaming and arguing goes on in movies of the modern age. bette davis may scream a lot, but she doesnt over act any of it. its the same with bogie. he had a sense dynamic tention, yet was so serene. even then he was so powerful with all of his scenes that totally goes in one ear and out the other, if you know what i mean. heehee!

  8. yes i have just recently read her auto bio she rereleased and i must agree with you on the interesting note.

To me, he's one of those rare men that, though not conventionally handsome,

had a most compelling and attractive personality.

oh my goodness, you took the words right out of my mouth. i completely agree, although most people i know with the exception of my grandmama and grandpapa thik bogie is highly overrated. they think he has a weird body, weird teeth, not handsome at all, and over acts......i always put up a fight on that subject. heehee! thats just because they havent seen many of his movies, which actually happens to be a fact. heehee! they just dont give him a chance. i mean you see him with betty in The Big Sleep, and HOLY MOLI! heehee, or as an ex-xon in High Sierra, or the unkempt, but soft Mr. allnut in African Queen and you cant even compare his characters. he is so charming, yet not oozing of it.

She developed wonderful character over the years and she

generally credits Bogie with influencing her in many ways.

yes i noticed this throughout the rest of the book after he died. i felt happy for her when reading, b/c she had gained so much and was so optimistic about many things. i thought that was so touching!

  9. Rhett and I set it on fire with our love. Then he rebuilt if for me with his ill-gotten gains. What a man!

now thats what i call a passion filled statement! heehee!

OH, "Madeleine"! I've got our pois...I mean our new batch of goodies for Mr Grimes...but how to administer it. Any suggestions Miss Tea?

oh goodie, now let's see, we could put some in a bucket and when he walks in here and opens the door it will spill all over him, hence the poisoning begins! but we cant let any info leak out. it has to be a total surprise......that was a bit on the cheesy side. heehee!

  10. She doesn't love either! She's at some vanity fair doing some wicked shopping for trashy British society guys. I've lost all hope and faith in her. I always thought she was a cute Southern belle with wrongheaded opinions but now I know the truth. She set Tara on fire

yeah i cant see sweet april setting anyone on fire....that would be like seeing audrey hepburn not eating anything when getting nervous in Charade. heehee!

You can marry your serial killer dreamboat, if you like. I was merely trying to warn you about his murderous "love."

mamma mia! heehee! smithy and mr darcy are the sweetest kindest dreamboats......and MELODY! ;) i cant forget about my melody jones. do you truely think smithy could be capable of even handling a knife? he would probably get so confused, he would end up dropping it on the floor. poor baby!

Smithy naturally caused Paula to stop breathing when he strangled her and then buried her in the courtyard.

i personally cant see any of that happening in Random Harvest. honestly. maybe in Shadow of a Doubt. heehee!

Like a Texas girl has any chance of showing no emotion at all. Now I've heard it all. Such stubbornness.

phew you are really having fun murdering poor sweet april and me tonight arent you?

i can at least be optimistic about it and hope for the best right? now im stubborn? well your obstinate!!

  11. I wish I was hallucinating that the Gone with the Wind girl did not abandon Tara, but it's true. I shall never view her the same. I'm thoroughly disappointed and depressed.

yeah well, you are still halucinating! she didnt abandon tara, she just loves rhett more than tara! so there!

april we need to make another batch of that good stuff we used on frankie, it appears to be working on him, the only trouble is that we now need to make a spell for him not to pick on us....like that will ever happen.

I'm not picking on anyone. I'd never do such a thing. I'm always very serious.

yeah right! you are the biggest softy in the world......who likes to trample on girls' dreams of one day marrying their true loves. odd combo!

larry is not treacherous! for goodness sake! smithy wouldnt even touch larry. in fact i think they would be good friends. heehee! as for bunny lake.....

Smithy didn't do a thing to Larry, but Smithy murdered Rebecca, Bunny Lake, and Paula. You've got a badge, arrest him!

im not going to arrest smithy for being a swetheart and loving paula until the day they both die, which will happen of natural causes by the way. heehee! how indecorous of you to keep them apart from each other! im utterly ashamed of you. heehee!

Which one of you is Grace and which is Maddy? I'm sure Sweet T would LOVE to be Grace.

oh yeah....actually that would be easy, i just wouldnt have to show emotion at all. heehee!
