  1. why cant i ever get an easy question out of you?

    That's too dull.

figures. heehee! i never get off the hook with you.

    I'm right? Are you okay?

now that you mention it, i do feel a touch of warmth in my forehead. and who's fault is that? hmm i wonder!

Most definitely. I think the majority of TCM's viewing audience is more familiar with It's a Wonderful Life and Oklahoma! than film noir.

well if you think about it most classic fans are also familiar with The Bad and the Beautiful and The greatest Show on Earth too. many people love film noir, just not as much as you do. heehee! well maybe Ollie would be right up there with you. heehee!

    am i right Ollie?

It's definitely a matter of opinion. I love Gloria as a femme fatale or a down-on-her-luck gal the most. Although she's really neither of those in In a Lonely Place, which is my favorite performance of hers.

i can't believe i am to agree with you, but i love her performance in In a Lonely Place. it is one of my favs of hers....and you just said why. heehee!

Yes, I like Gene Tierney and Gloria Grahame more than Miss Emotional. I like Barbara Stanwyck and Linda Darnell more than the Princess, too. My favorite of character among those actresses is a Grace character, though. I love Francie in To Catch a Thief.

APRIL!!! did you hear that? he admitted to it! finally! we now the truth. he's been holding out on us! that spell is working better than i thought. heehee! i didnt like her character in To Catch a Thief, b/c she wanted to turn him in....the man she loves. how mean is that? paula would never do that to smithy, even if he did have a knife in his hands, which WILL NEVR HAPPEN! heehee!

That's so nice of you to say. In a Lonely Place is a different kind of Gloria for me. She has to project a wider range of emotions in that film and I thought she did a very nice job. I really liked her crying at the end. I thought it was beautiful.

the ending to tht movie made me cry a lot. but i just love it anyway! it is such a touching well made movie with a great story and casting! for me, her character was very strong.

  2. Haha, well we better get some towels before we drown ourselves.

heehee! i have my hanky that is still wet from waching all my greer movies, so we better get some as fast as we can. ;)

    Hmm.. Valley of Decision?

It rings a bell, but I don't think I've seen it.

oh you HAVE to see Valley of Decision! it is one of the best drama/romances ever! of course that may be my opinion. heehee! gregory peck is so young there and is utterly gorgeous! greer is in it with him! heehee!

  3. At least you recommend films that a guy may like. Can you believe Bronxie and

ButterscotchGreer are trying to get me to watch Pride and Prejudice? I hope

Doniphon shoots me from the shadows very soon.

i did only recomend it to you! but then you started making fun of my elizabeth bennett and mr, darcy, so i want you to watch it just once.....well now im giving up and you dont have to watch it. is that okay with you now? i dont think Doniphon would give you the pleaseure or anyone else of shooting you from the shadows, just to let ya know. ;)

What makes you think you're one of them, Meanie Mint?

oh excuse me, this should be a compliment am i wrong? heehee! at least meanie mint is better than jinxie. heehee!

that is one of my favorite scenes in The Razor's Edge, frankiefurter! gene looks so pretty there and phew, ty power looks gorgeous!

  4. Hey, Theresa! Our spell works really well! He doesn't remember a thing about what we made him say!

it must be, i noticed that! hurray for the dolly sisters! heehee! now if we can keep him having this short term memory loss, we will be all set, and he wont remember a thing that we did to him!....hhhhmmmmm. this brings about thoughts now doesnt it? ;) where's the vat of boiling chocolate?

  5. I feel the same way! This musical just doesn't do much for me, though I love the songs Frank and Bing sing. Grace looks beautiful but this movie pales in comparison to The Philadelphia Story. I also think Virginia Wiedler in the original was much funnier than that annoying little girl in HS.

yes i love frankie and bing isnt too bad in it, but there is just no camparison where kate and cary are involved. and they did such a great job with their characters. i dont think anyone else could pull them off in that sense that they did....especially by virginia wielder. she was so cute in the original.

  6. So, which one of ya is standing over FrankGrimes body? I'd like to remove it. It's drawing flies - and a crowd. Traffic here is bad enough.

well it isnt me! ;) april's right, he wont leave until she posts those caps, and the he'll rise from the grave and walk out himself, but then come back to haunt us later. heehee!

  7. only two? is this a trick question?

    Of course!

why cant i ever get an easy question out of you?

I'm not so sure about the "true" part. I think there are many classic film fans who probably haven't seen Gloria's films noir.

well you are right about that.sorry! ;) i guess it just depends upon what kind of movies you like huh?

I think Gloria's best performances are from her films noir, but I believe the masses know her as "Violet Bick" and "Ado Annie."

now that happens to be based on an opinion, silly goose. grabdmama thinks one of her best performances was as "Ado Annie". heehee! but i actually agree with both of you. i love her characters in her films noir, but i also love her as the fiesty girl who just couldnt day no. ;)

Ahhh, yes, Grace. That would be another musical I'd consider getting. I actually look to get Gene and Gloria films before the highly emotional Grace.

wow! you are actually putting them before miss impassive?

Thanks. I loved seeing Gloria get emotional. She was terrific in the final act of the film.

she was always terrific in the final acts of her movies, frankie. :)

  8. Hiya, ButterlateGREER -- not true frankie. if they were real classic film fans they would know all her GREAT roles, silly.

Okay, Silly Goose, what two films do you think most classic film fans know Gloria from? You can only pick two.

only two? is this a trick question?

oh alright i suppose......um....now let me think about this. if someone were a TRUE classics fan, they would know all sorts of genres and gloria certainly did a great job of being in many genres of film.

people might easily know her from The Big Heat with which she costarred the handsome Glenn Ford or in Bad and the Beautiful, or even The Glass Wall. but thats not to say that those movies grasped her best performances. they are famous so more people know them. oops! i said three didnt i? well you know what i mean right frankie? she was in many well known movies and isnt necessarily just known for being Ado Annie in Oklahoma b/c it is a cutise musical.

but you know she is really good in Oklahoma, and i think you should see it. she has a rather big part in it next to gordon mccrae and shirley jones. i just love her songs in it!

If I'm going to own a musical on DVD it may end up being Oklahoma! because of the very sweet and innocent Gloria. Actually, there is another musical I'm considering getting on DVD -- On the Riviera.

i figured those two musicals would be the only ones you would ever get. heehee! they have your favorite women in them.....but you are forgetting one.......i thought you liked miss impassive.....she is in High Society isnt she? now i dont like this version even though frankie sinatra is in it, b/c grace is in it and i looooove the original better with kate hepburn and cary grant.

although i usually go with the musical version of everything.

those screencaps of yours.....they never fail!

Uh-oh. You're trying to "butter" me up so that I watch Pride and Prejudice.

heehee! you guessed me! actually i really do like those caps. that are quite intriguing and really say a lot. they capture some of the best scenes from that movie!

did you put those last two on purpose? do i even have to ask? heehee!

  9. The Ritz theater (part of the Alamo Drafthouse theater group) in Austin is showing a restored print of King Kong April 5-7th and I?ve got my tickets and am ready to go!! The theater was opened in 1929 so I imagine this movie played there when it was new. It?ll be great to see it on the big screen!!

im so glad they showed this movie in restored form on the big screen for a full week-end. it was so fun. i hope they play it there again. this movie well deserved it and will always be on my fav list!

  10. man i have been busy this week-end. i even forgot about my beautiful gregory's b-day!! oh no! i hope he will forgive me. let's not tell him. heehee!

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY GORGEOUS!!!

    173506~Gregory-Peck-Posters.jpg

i love all of his romantic movies!! Valley of Decision, Roman Holiday, and a lot of his other ones too like Arabesque, and To Kill a Mockingbird. he was just an all around great and handsome guy, and what an actor!

  11. Frank was a real man who could sing...

all in favor say "I"!!! heehee!

i remember N"SYNC when i was in the fourth grade and i really didnt mind them then, b/c i wasn't even a preteen yet, and their music was descent enough i guess, but when he started going solo, i turned my nose up at him big time! he has no morals and no self-control. its rediculous!

  12. I think most classic film fans know Gloria Grahame as either "Violet Bick" in It's a Wonderful Life or "Ado Annie Carnes" in Oklahoma!.

not true frankie. if they were real classic film fans they would know all her GREAT roles, silly. but you know she is really good in Oklahoma, and i think you should see it. she has a rather big part in it next to gordon mccrae and shirley jones. i just love her songs in it!

those screencaps of yours.....they never fail! :)

  13. ...Wait! I just though of someone better than Frank. JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE!

HAHAHAH! Is that the biggest lie or what!?!?!

talk about being scared for a minute! phew! i thought you were serious about justin before i read the next line!

  14. Yeah, It is great! You definitely have to see it! Also have you seen "Take Me Out To The Ball Game"? That one is one of their best together!

oh i love this movie! i first saw it at my grandmaa;s house because of my fascination with frankie at the time and then i started liking all of essy williams films, but i had first seen Gene in Xanadu a while before i saw this. Xanadu is one of my all time favs!! but unfortunately gene doesnt have a sailor outfit on in it. banana oil! :)

  15. honestly, you two. i leave for a bit and youtwo rise a long chit chat without me. heehee!

i hate that the libraries are getting rid of the VHS tapes. they are doing that all around here too. thats like getting rid of all the RECORDS! it just doesnt happen! they are a part of film history! :)

and you can find lots of great old movies on VHS that arent on DVD and havent come on TV in a long while.

  16. The dimples on GG look very sweet. But that serious look and arched eyebrow, well

yes, she has darling dmples.shirley temple also had cute dimples. but the person who had the cutest dimples, was GARY!! heehee! i think gloria really did know how to do that arched eye brow thing. but she looks too serious in those pics. heehee!

anyway, im pretty good, how are you this loverly evening?
