  1. *Oh, no, you're not!* Okay you used to think I was sweet. what happened between then and now? Don't make me bring out my puppy dog pout! *Oh, yes, he is! He's boring in *The Razor's Edge *and this one! Now in *The Black Swan*, he's highly entertaining.* I actually loved his character in The Razor's Edge. I thought he was very determined and not boring! And I just love how you put that Ty Power is "highly entertaining" in The Black Swan...It's almost like you are making fun of him. Heehee! I think YOU are highly entertaining. *The beginning is what I liked! Tom (George Brent) was fun to watch. It's from the middle on that I drown! The etire Rama (Ty Power) and Edwina (Myrna) relationship did nothing for me.* See, I disagree with the whole George Brent wonderful beginning. It isn't fun to watch without Myrna there for me. What about their relationship did you not like? I mean, it might have been a bit on the dry side, but it was still sweet. *Quite the opposite! I preferred her in the early going. When she turns serious, I tune her out. Her and Rama become zombies!* She is serious throughout the whole thing, silly goose! Is it that you just prefer Myrna in a more playful setting? Because I know you LOVE when your Gloria is all serious in her stuff. *I wanna see a horse getting pinned with a medal!* Oh. My. Goshly. My smile just turned to a smack on the head. *The only unpleasant thing is Sam Jordan's (Robert Middleton) fate.* Well and the threat of war hanging in the air. I mean Anthony Perkins did such a phenomenal job with portraying angst in wanting to serve is duty, yet being torn between his family's beliefs. *He fixed everything? How?! You've got Gary eyes!* Okay, so I may be a little on the prejudice side, becasuse he is so cute, but REALLY. *This is mostly true. And I do expect such endings in those genres.* HA! I was right and you know it! But there are those happy endings with dramas and westerns too. *Only if you think death is pleasant!* Death?! Bite your tongue! There may be a little tragedy in the relationship, but no death! How could you suggest such a thing for Funny Girl?! Barbra would be thoroughly disappointed in you! *I didn't think there was much drama in the film. And the little drama that happens had me thinking, "big whoop." I'd say it's a very loving family film. The value of the film is how the family and community care about one another.* Well it most certainly wasn't a comic western. Heehee! It was definitely a more laid back drama than you are probably used to, though. I agree with how you depict the value of Friendly Persuasion. It is definitely about sending a message to all who view it about family values. I know you all were talking about this a little ways back, and I remember someone talking about Marjorie Main's character. I'm sorry, I don't remember who it was. It might have been Wendy. I LOVED Marjorie's contribution to the supporting cast. She really lit up the screen for me! What did you think of her? *And then there's this:* Only you would compare Three's Company to Friendly Persuasion. It rather made me giggle out loud, actually. heehee! Well, this is what might happen to you, Jack... (looks to the sky whistling) http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e141/michaelblack/threes%20company/jacktripper4.jpg Okay I can't get pictures to show up, still. This is what happens when you get me near computers. Heehee! Edited by: butterscotchgreer on Nov 14, 2011 1:28 PM
  2. Hiya, Invisible Woman! -- *Okay I have just two things to say about this.* Only two? You're losing your touch! okay, i'm not that chatty...okay maybe i am, but i'm sweet! She drowns in this one! She became as boring as Rama (Tyrone Power)! She should have stuck with Tom (George Brent)! And what about her husband?! Poor Nigel! You and your adultery! Awful! Ty Power is never boring! Although the story does have a rather slow start for me, but it does make up for that later on when things get spiced up. And whoever said I commented on the romance in the movie? I haven't gotten to that part yet! Such like a meanie, racing to conclusions! I actually have mixed feelings about her character's actions in The Rains Came. I think you think she was boring, simply because her character was quite bored in the story until she became entangled with Tyrone. Yes, too much happiness! It's a much too pleasant film! Everybody gets what they want! Horrible! I think you're getting confused. you see, life is suppose to end on a happy note, not with someone getting shot! I don't recall the whole movie being pleasant. Initially there were issues in the movie until Gary fixed everything. I consider comedies and musicals to be pleasant. You know, like Funny Girl. Now that's a pleasant film...Friendly Persuasion is a dramatic western. a very good dramatic western with a good story, I might add.
  3. If it wasn't for George Brent and Brenda Joyce, I would have been bored to death. Although, the earthquake scenes were sensational. I loved all of that. Myrna started off interesting and then she went south. Tyrone Power bores me when he's muted. This another film that bored me. I loved Samantha the Goose and Dorothy McGuire, but the rest didn't do a thing for me. I didn't like the ending. Too much happiness. Okay I have just two things to say about this. First of all, There is no such thing as Myrna Loy going wsouth in ANY movie she has ever been in. She is simply a genius in all of her movies and is always interesting, including in The Rains Came, silly. Second of all....WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU?? Heehee! Too much happiness? What kind of phrase is that? that is just so mean. I believe it's called raining on our parade about happy endings. Hello, those are the best of the best, silly goose! and Gary Cooper with a happy ending? I mean that just takes the cake with what a good movie is. I mean, honestly Frankie!
  4. A good movie for you to watch after this is Bob Hope's *The Princess and The Pirate*. If you don't have it, you should get it. What a howl! I even want to say one of the pirates in it is Morgan Oh my goshly, Frankie will L.O.V.E. love this movie! Honestly, I think he will like it. Hope did amazingly in this movie...I just didn't like how it ended. I wasn't expecting that cameo. I so should have, though. Heehee!

  8. that's what i did, silly goose!. heehee! i think there is something funky going on with my photobucket links. how about now? aren't they gorgeous???? !http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_ljlholpTQt1qc2vq4o1_500.jpg! Edited by: butterscotchgreer on Nov 4, 2011 10:32 PM
  9. did the greer pic not show, dahlink? i tried to post it, but i can't see it. i'm shaming myself right now for putting you through this all by your lonesome.
  10. okay so I haven't upset frankie in a while and i feel like i'm losing my touch. !http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s295/butterscotchgreer/greerg_siamese.jpg!
  11. Awesome pic of Ronnie Colman, Cinie! Dahlink, I had no idea about the whole actors wearing their own clothing for contemporary flicks. That is very interesting, because I have always wondered whether the clothing designers would make new suits for every single new flick like Teacher's Pet. I know of very few movies where the girls were allowed to wear their own clothing such as A Star is Born (1976). Barbra wore her own clothing in that movie and set fashion standards with it. I know Annie Hall had the same sort of look with Diane wearing pants and suits, also setting new trends, but I don't remember if she wore her own clothing or not.
  12. mmmmm....Cinie-T, you have some yummy taste is brunch! I so wish I could smell that picture right now.
  13. LOL! I can barely watch that scene,though, ha! But its so funny! OOOOOH I love that scene from The Farmer's Daughter where Loretta Young makes Joey Cotton that alcoholic drink after he falls in the frozen lake....it just makes me wonder what's in it. I once worked at a famous pizza establishment in Chicago. I had the late night shift. You wouldn't believe the things running around there, and I'm talking about the human beings. Oh I bet that was fun! What kind of people? should i ask? Heehee!
  14. I would like to reciprocate the notion!
  15. Kathy! PS: Miss Scotchie.. I still bet even with only a couple of semesters, you walked away with some mighty fine new cooking skills and recipes! Ha.. lets go on Iron Chef America and I will be your sous chef.. ha. I don't have too many cooking skills to add to your team, but oh just to be there.. (if only so I can meet Alton Brown and Bobby..ha) Heehee! I wish! This guy at my church is from Louisianna and I told him that I am half cajun, bause my grandmama and grandpapa are from there and we got into this whole debate on who could cook crawfish ettouffee better, so we decided to have an actual Iron Chef competition within our group with the two of us battling crawfish.,.but he knows Paula Deen personally and has actualy finished cooking school. I have met Rachel Ray like 4 times, so i playfully rubbed that in his face, but he still laughs at me, so i am really nervous about this little battle, but i have faith in my ettouffee! he just loves picking on me and rubbing stuff in my face about his acomplishments....its a really good thing we are good friends! Heehee! Bronxie! Yes, the running joke in CHARADE is the more nervous Audrey becomes, the more she eats, and never gains a pound. Friend Sylvie is jealous. Me too, lol. Can we all be like Audrey in this sense? Just eat whatever we want and never gain any weight? Sounds like an utterly delightful way of living.....more strawberry shortcake in that case! I watched Audrey in LOVE IN THE AFTERNOON this morning on TCM and when you see those waiters roll in all those carts full of suckling delectable foods and cakes when "Fascinaton" is playing. Oh Gary, a la carte is definitely on the way to winning the heart of a girl.
  16. Hey Bronxie!....how about when Julie Andrews falls to the ground outside that restaurant in Victor/Victoria..I wanted to laugh, because its so funny the way she did it, but at the same time I wanna catch her and feed her something. poor baby!
  17. Woo hoo, little Scotchie.. Welcome to my kitchen!!! YOU are the perfect one to bring me all the more decadent "gourmet" food recipes.. Miss Culinary School girl... Thank you for the invite! I could smell your potatoes from across the hall! mmmmmm.... I changed majors, so I only had a few semesters of culinary. I'm not a professional like Bobby Flay....OH MY WORD! He is delectable! I absolutely LOVE raspberries.. delish sounding recipe, youngun! (and I must confess, I am intrigued because I have NEVER cooked.. maybe even never eaten anything made with rosewater) The whole thing together sounds like it would be light and cool and soothing.. a perfect end to a heavier "rich" sort of meal.. y-u-m.. Doesn't every woman love raspberries? I mean, they talk about women loving chocolate...pfft! Raspberries..."yum-o!" as Rachel Ray would say! The only reason I have rosewater, is because I love making turkish delight. I must admit that i crave the smell of it, so i experiment every once in a while with it. An Affair to Remember is also a good movie to have this delightful dessert with. I bet your dad (and the rest of your family too) loves getting the benefit of all your cooking expertise! ha. :-) My daddy is my harshest judge. he never lies... oy vey! i am goping to try your recipe! it looks to scrumptious!
  18. Zowie, butterscotch, what a great list! I can tell you are going to love THE SHRIKE, lol. Oh I have been waiting to see that movie since I was a little girl....well littler. Heehee! Its the only Junie movie I don't have! Yikes, i'm kinda nervous. Thanks for your compliments! I love my mayhem/whimsical movies!
  19. WHOA momma!!! That looks SO DELISH!! I lovwe you for making this thread! Now we can all share our goodies together while watching our favorite classics!! OOH Im so excited! The other day, I was watching Sabrina with Audrey...of course...and I had the slightest inkling to make gelee.... Here's my recipe: 1 cup of raspberries 1 cup of blackberries 1 tsp of rosewater i whole bottle of any champagne of sparkling wine...i prefer sparkling wine 1 tbsp of freshly squeezed lemon juice 1/4 cup of sugar plus 2 tbsp of it later 2 small packets of unflavored gelatin....or about 3 1/2 tsps of it Basically, it's like a french sort of jello. I used to go to culinary school, so I have these urges to make new recipes all the time!! It's soooooo fun to play around with them!I just love it when family gathers around to watch a good classic and then snack on delightful treats together! So you throw the berries into a separate bowl with the lemon juice and the 1/4 cup of sugar..let it sit in its juices for around 20 minutes to let it soak in all its gloriousness! mmmm yummy huh? In another bowl pour half a cup of the sparkling wine with the gelatin and mix until thickened. In a pot on the stove, pour 1 cup and a half of the sparkling wine and bring to a boil with the remaining 2 tbsp of sugar and mix until sugar is dissolved....turn off the heat and pour the boiled wine and the gelatin mix into a wide glass bowl all on its own. then for the grand finale...pour the berry mix into the glass bowl with everything else and pour the remaining bottle of wine into the mix and stir until all gelatin and sugar is dissolved. If you wanna make it fancy and pretty, pour the gelee into separate wine glasses while dividing the berries evenly in each glass and chill in the fridge for 3 hours. My daddy scrum-diddly-uptioused down a whole glass of it by himself and loved it! So we had it together while watching Sabrina together.
  20. Hey Dutch White Boy! I'm thoroughly impressed by your taking the time to list your favorites for each year of the 60s, Invisible Woman! Wow! HA!!! You are impressed with me! I'm making progress! Joe got mad at me, because I didn't list any James Bond films on my list. I told him that they were a given. heehee! But your taste is another story! Are you some kind of sappy girl or something?! oh like you never noticed that before.....pfftt! You and your Bullwhip Griffin! Hey, He's a cutie!! And he and Suzanne Pluschette got together at the end! NEWSFLASH! Happy ending alert! Those are the best kind! Heehee! I never heard of quite a few of your favorites. Are you sure you're not just making movies up in your mind? which ones have you not heard of?
  21. Yeah, I'm not much of a Tarantino, or *Kill Bill* fan. I mainly mentioned it because it was just about the last thing Carradine did, and it was popular. Oh okay, well that makes sense. I loved Carradine when he was in the younger stages of his career. The series KUNG FU was awesome!! I grew up on that with my daddy. I was definitely a daddy's little girl. Are you familiar with the series, ValentineXavier?
  22. {font:arial, helvetica, sans-serif} That is super, butterscotch! I could never do a list like this, it would drive me batty. I love the mix of serious and fun you have. And you have several movies on there I've never even heard of let alone seen! OOOOH please try! I would LOVE to see your list from the 60's! Which movies have you not heard of? that's so hard to believe. you know EVERYTHING! Heehee! I see *Cape Fear* was last on the list one year...I wonder why. ppffttt! Cape Fear can't outdo my musicals! I mean, its an awesome movie, but really...Only in the Dutch Boy's mind is that a reality....meanwhile we should hide the devil's food cake just in case. Heehee! {font}
  23. {font:arial, helvetica, sans-serif} Oh my goodness! Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and The Boston Strangler in the same section... YUPPERS!! The best kind of combo...didn't you know? Oooh!! Fantabulous idea for a movie...a ostentatious musical with a Hitch plot of murder, romance, and mayhem....muwahahaa!! The perfect movie! {font}
  24. Our Baby T is a diverse young lady. < Gulp! > :^0 Hey Cinie-T! Why thank you! It took me like an hour to put the silly thing together. The 60's aren't my most favorite decade...that would be the 40's, but I still have a special place in my heart for the 60's, especially with my musicals and thrillers...odd combo. Heehee! Have you made a list yet?
  25. I agree with Mom, but then I'm not keen on June with anyone! (I'm still hoping to see *The Shrike*, something tells me that's the June Allyson I'll like the most! Hey April, dahlink! Why do you say that? You don't like seeing Junie with anyone? Not even with her hubby in their movies together? What about her with Vanji (Van Johnson)? I thought she looked adorable with both. The Shrike is the only movie of hers I have't seen yet. I REALLY wanna see it, so much! It looks to be quite interesting, especially with her supposed character.
