  1. Yeah, THE SECRET HEART, June really shows she was more than just a pert, squeaky-clean screen sweetheart.

    OOOOOHHHH GOODIE!! We are talking about Junie Allyson, now! Woohoo!

    But I didn't like her character too much in the Secret Heart. Although she gave a heck of a performance and made it extremely believable, which kinda scared me when I first saw it, because I was so used to her characters of a sweeter demeanor. I liked Caudette's Colbert as her mother. Great casting there!

  2. Okay, so I tried my hand at putting together a list of my favorite movies from the decade of the

    1960s. I must say there is a big combination of all sorts of movies in there. Of course, I know it won't live up to Frank's or Rey's lists, but it looked like so much fun, I just couldn't resist.

    In the order of likeness for my favorites!....Holy Joe, I just realized that its in a different font again.. Heehee! I sill haven't figured out how to change it back.

  3. OH MY GOODNESS! Rey and Frankie! You two will never stop outdoing each other, will you? Heehee! It's okay, I love to watch it. :D:D

    Rey, Your list is so diverse from he decade of the 60's! Its so inspiring to see that! I am quite surprised to see Sound of Music so high on your list for the year of 1965. I would have thought that CAT BALLOU would be on there! :P

  4. The long running Japanese series of Zatoichi films from the 60s are a lot of fun, as is Takeshi Kitano's modern take on Zatoichi from 2002. David Carradine has done a lot, from *Cross of Iron* to *Kill Bill*.

    You know,I watched Kill Bill, expecting to see great action with the art of the samurai. I really enjoyed it, but I thought it was so cheesy. That isn't exactly a bad thing, knowing Tarantino's works, but the whole blood spurting out like an anime cartoon was just weird. I really liked Carradine's performance in Cross of Iron! Classic!

  5. Hi all!

    I have a new friend that I met in a different city while I was traveling recently and he had literally just signed up on here to chat with everyone about his classic celebrity adventures. Here is his message to me via Private message. if anyone has any cue about what his issue is or how he can start posting, finally, please do let me know, so I can tell him or you can PM him yourself. His username is, "Immy".

    "Hi Theresa -

    I'm still having problems posting on the TCM boards.

    The message box won't allow me to click on it. For some reason this isn't a problem with PMs though. I contacted TCM admin and they said my problem was

    unique (just my luck) and suggested updated my

    browser. Internet Explorer 7 works fine on everything

    else but not TCM for some reason.

    Anyway, not expecting you to solve things, just

    wanted you to know I wasn't ignoring your kind

    invite. Hopefully I'll work out the glitch.

    Looking forward to posting!

    Dave (Immy)"

    I certainly hope we can get our new member posting on here and make him feel most welome!

  6. Hahahaha! that's too cute! I wish you both luck with that! I was always too girly to be a vampire, so i admire the little one for that!

    Awww. he sounds like his sweet self. I like him like that. Or as a psycho.

    All of the sudden I have a craving to watch On Dangerous Ground. :P

    Whew! I don't know what happened to me. I think it's too close to Halloween! :D

    Whew! It was touch and go there for a bit...I need to to help me fight the evil forces of the Dutch white boy! Are you excited for halloween? what are you going to dress up as?

  9. Thanks for the LILAC TIME recommenation. And any chance to see a young and gorgeous Gary Cooper further whets my appetite, lol.

    my mouth just dropped as I read this. See, now I'm picturing Gary in overalls!!! It's all your fault! Heehee!...even though he didn;t wear overalls in Lilac Time, tht's like my pictur of him as a young and gorgeous guy....

    Do let us know how you like it once you wach it!! it's definitely a scrumptous pick of his! ;)

  10. Different personalities for both Greer and Robbie? He's sweet and noble, and she's a serial killer?

    Well, okay maybe I lied a bit. Heehe! Not that different. Greer is more feisty in this one and Ryan may be a little lik his rugged self with a side of pure mysterious seetness that he doesn't like to show...hhmmm okay maybe I was hallucinating. Heehee!

    I sound like Frank. No No No!

    OOHH NOOOO!! Greer isn't a serial killer! She is sweet and a true lady! Don't join his side! Stay on my side, Wendy! Heehee!

  11. Not only are you very kind you have a different font.

    Hey Chris!

    Haha! I copied everyone's text and pasted into Microsoft Word to write down all my replies and then pasted it back into TCM to post all of it. April noticed that too. Heehee! I don't know why it kept the fontfrom Word. I guess my computer is jut silly like that. :D

  12. OOH I love fight movies!! Now you have to narrow down for me! as in Swashbuckling, martial arts, sports? all of the above? Can i make a list?!! This looks sooo fun!!

    By the way, AndyM, War of the Roses is an AWESOME example of a great fight film!

  13.

    {font:Calibri}Hello my beautiful friends! sorry it took a while to answer, i was on a trip, so i'm back!! WOOOHOOO!

    ‘ello Wendy darling! {font}

    {font:Calibri}Oooh I have got to see Her Twelve Men now. I didn't know RR and GG shared a smooch!{font}

    {font:Calibri}2 smooches to be exact! Heehee! Not like I keep track of these things, but ya know how I am about the mushy stuff! …and yes, you do need to see it! :P It is such a cute little pic and shows a different personality of Greer and Ryan than you are used to. {font}

    {font:Calibri}Hola Music Man Chris!{font}

    {font:Calibri}A young lady with a sense of humor is indeed a true gem. Lucky Joe.{font}

    {font:Calibri}Stop making me blush! Heehee! ..and I blush easily! You know your bride is lucky to have such a sweetie pie like you too!....see, I can make you blush too!{font}

    {font:Calibri}I have never really been a fan of SciFi and though I have strumbled across "Doctor Who" at times it has often been the incredibly cheap older ones and have found little interest in it. It's been around forever so I understand I am likely in the minority.{font}

    {font:Calibri}Neither was I. I never really appreciated the modern type of sci-fi, unless it was the old cheesy stuff like Forbidden Planet or Invasion of the Body Snatchers, until I found X-Files….and even then, I don’t really watch it for the sci-fi, I watch it for the relationship…I know, I’m silly! Heehee! I could never get really into Doctor Who episodes, either, so you aren’t alone on that one. {font}{font:Wingdings}J{font}

    {font:Calibri}I will remember the hankies for my bride when we watch the last "Prime Suspect." A little personal strife for Jane goes a long way in making it even more emotional. {font}

    {font:Calibri}Good deal! The last movie, definitely has some personal strife for Jane!{font}

    {font:Calibri}Ciao Bronxie!{font}

    {font:Calibri}Such a sweet photo from THE JAZZ SINGER with Danny and Peggy, scotchie. I guess of the three versions you can't beat Al Jolson singing Kol Nidre, but Danny does do a good job with the role. I've only seen bits and pieces of the Neil Diamond one. Laurence Olivier's accent sounds an awful lot like the one he uses in THE BOYS FROM Brazil, ha!{font}

    {font:Calibri}I’m glad you enjoyed it! You do present a valid point with Al’s version of that wonderful song. Larry Olivier’s accent IS sort of the same, but I have detected hints of difference in each, although I must say I love his accent more in The Boys From Brazil. It just sounds a little more handsome…if that’s even possible. Heehee!{font}

    {font:Calibri}Boy, Greer got all the handsome leading men, didn't she? Bob Donat, Walter (I wonder what those limericks were, lol), Robert Taylor, Clark, Robert Ryan, Fred MacMurray and the alligator in THE HAPPIEST MILLIONAIRE... {font}

    {font:Calibri}Yes she did as a matter of fact! Heehee!...well except for two very important ones who just happened to be the most handsome of all. Cary and Gary! In fact they were both sets to do movies with her that never got past pre-production….those silly studio people just had to ruin their chances. I’m so disheartened by this! I love being a drama queen! Heehee! Have you actually seen The Happiest Millionaire?? Isn’t it great?! I loveeeeee that movie! It’s such an awesome matching of Fred and Greer..and of course the alligators. I had a little caffeine, so I’m a little hyper right now….maybe I should stay away from that delicious goodness!{font}

  14.

    Oh reyman....

    you and your brde are sooooo cute together! Thank you for sharing that with us! Looks like you two went on an adventure! Those are always fun!!

  15. *You're absolutely right about Danny, that's why I'm looking forward to THE JAZZ SINGER. I don't know anything about this version, but I'll take Danny Thomas over even Al Jolson and of course Neil Diamond. Ah, schmaltz, lol. Good for the soul and the stomach. Cholesterol-schlesterol.*

    Oh my goshly, Bronxie, its so weird you say that, because I just got into a discussion with my dad over this. I totally love the Danny version of The Jazz Singer (1952) with Peggy Lee. It's my favorite! Although The original Jazz Singer had its own kind of ingenious flair, I could never really fully get into Al Jolsen's voice as a preference and the 1952 version is just too cute to resist! My dad, on the other hand grew up in the 70's being obsessed with Neil Diamond, so of course, he has that version of The Jazz Singer. He thinks its just the bees knees!But I think they canged the story way too much in the Diamond version. I think you will really like The Danny Thomas versin!

    How cute is this scene!?

  16. Dear ol' Baby Boomer T (aka...Cinie-T),

    Men indeed. Someone I know now says we are soulmates. He and I laugh and have an easy time of it. The main plus is that he knows a tremendous amount about old films and he and I can gab for hours in a stream-of-consciousness way about movies, but he has yet to PAY for dinner? Am I being old fashioned in thinking that if we go Dutch, then we’re just pals? Dear Abby...please help out an ol’ Baby Boomer, Baby “T.” You’re young with a different perspective.

    What is really weird about this situation is that it happened to me about 2 years ago. I met this guy that had become friends with me in one of my classes and we had been hanging out for around 2 semesters and he said one day that we were soulmates. I didn't exactly know what to think about that, but found it sweet. Although I noticed he never paid for dinner or anything like that, either at first, he offered to as time moved on.. Later on, I found out that he really wanted to date me, that was just his way of saying it. You never know until you ask.

    While I don't know too much about your story, I do know that you are not being too old-fasioned. I think the same way you do. :D If he is really your soulmate, then talk to him about how you feel inside. There is something so special about sharing things in common with your true soulmate. I know you are a fiesty lady who stands up for what you want. It's all up to you, Big T! ;) If you do choose to talk to him, let me know what he says.....or another option is to drop him tiny hints without actually coming out with it all. Or have you done that yet?

    P.S. Why haven't you said anything about this guy before?! Shame on you! Heehee! :P

  17. Rachel and the Stranger is one of my favorites with Bill Golden, Jackie!!! I love his beautiful face in that one! I think that was the first movie of his that I ever saw too! I loved his shy character that wouldn't admit to loving Rachel, yet fought over her with Mr. Mitchum. Tsk tsk. Men! Heehee!

  18. *Say Baby T...tell me, who do you have a preference for...either Cary Grant or James Stewart as a leading man in Alfred Hitchcock's films? Where do you stand on that score?*

    What a wonderful question, Cinie-T!

    I think Cary Grant and Jimmy Stewart were both cast in Hitch films for different reasons.....Wow, I didn't know how hard of a question this was until I started trying to answer it. Heehee!

    I think I prefer Cary Grant to Jimmy. Now I still admire Jimmy's work in Rear Window and Vertigo and The Man Who Knew Too Much. In fact, Vertigo is one of my favorites of all Hitch movies, but when I analyze the characters played by Cary and Jimmy, closely, Cary tended to play characters with a little more mystery and flair to them. I came from a background of my mother and grandfather always watching mystery/suspence movies and shows and grew to fully appreciate it. I really grew to love that mystery in Cary's appearances in Hitch's films. I think its because he just had that suspenceful quality to him. At the same time, when you look in his eyes, you can see this soulful, calm feeling, which was always weird to me. I loved it!

    Jimmy was more of the innocent man alweays in the wrong place at the wrong time, which I didn't at all mind by any means. I thought he was too cute for words, watching him trying to always figure out what was going on around him. He was always trapped in the middle of a confused environment not knowing what would happen next. The complete opposite of how Cary's characters. This isn't a bad thing.

    I can't really pick a favorite of Cary's, but To Catch a Thief and Notorious were always close to me heart, because they are favorites in grandmama's house.

    Does that answer your question?

  19. Yes!

    you know, i actually had devil's food cake cookies at my grandmama's house the day before yesterday and i am going to rub it in your face just for that comment. heehee!

    Yes, it is! Not the entire film, but it has some hilarious scenes. The final line is very funny

    Okay there are maybe one or two lines in the whole movie that made me laugh...and i laugh at everything. you can ask anyone! I dunno, the plot of Frenzy made me question Hitchcock's filmmaking abilities toward his later years. I mean it just wasn't as classy as his other stuff. However, that may just be me and my silliness speaking. :D

    I know I'm weird!

    vast understatement of the year, ladies and gentlemen. :P:P

    It's good to hear Sammy has a Hitchcockian sense of humor.

    Sammy loves hitchcock and always thinks he can stump me with questions regarding his movies. And he used to think this way simply because i'm a girl and he didn't think i would even like hitch movies...well i showed him. :D

  20. So I didn't know exactly what thread to put this is, so I thought I would make a new one to create some new fun chatting!

    The Paramount Theater, as some of you know, is one of the few theaters in Austin to show old movies on the big screen and they showed The Sound of Music for the first time just last night.

    I had always wanted to see a Julie Andrews movie on a huge screen with surround sound and other people around me who appreciate her just as much. It was special to me that I got to see this, because I was so fascinated by the whimsical nature of this movie.

    There were all these people wearing costumes of the characters in the movie. It was like going to a huge red carpet premier of a movie on opening night. I was loving ever minute of this! :D We saw nuns galore, a hundred Maria's (old and young), all 7 children, the captain, and even the singing chick at the end of the movie who kept bowing over and over with a bouquet of flowers in her hands. There was even a fashion parade on stage where they brought up the people from the audience and i just had to film it, because it was super hilarious.

    When the movie started, we got these goodie bags with fake edelweiss flowers and one of those indoor fireworks popper thing-a-ma-bobs. With the lyrics of "Eldelweiss" being strung across the screen for the whole audience to sing to, everyone's hand flew up in the air and started waving the fake eldelweiss from side to side. it was quite a moment. It was really funny, because my boyfriend leaned over to me and whispered, "the people are freakishly obsessed with this movie." I seriously wanted to laugh out loud when he said that.

    The popper thingys were used to pop all at once when Maria and Captain Von Trapp finally kissed on screen and the whole place smelled of fireworks with everyone cheering when they kissed. Let's put it this way, I will be surprised if my boyfriend agrees to come to another sing-a-long with me. I thought it was a lot of fun, though!

  21. KIMMY PINKINEATER!!!

    By the way, GREER IS THE BEST! COOP, COOP, COOP! ...What other actors can I torture you with chanting the names of?

    You go girlie!

    Frank-a-Zoid,

    Wait a minute! I knew it! Butterscotch offed the real Mrs. Cooper!

    Do I really look that mean? :D :D :D

    It's yet another Hitch film that I find very funny. I also love the direction and the ending.

    Frenzy isn't funny! I just took that friend of mine, Sammy, to go see this on the big screen at the Paramount and he thought it was funny too....you're both weird!
