  1. heehee! john that story about fay wray and her closet full of gary was so funny. me and angie were talking on the phone and she told me about that, b/c i hadnt been on here yesterday to read it, and we both started laughing so hard to that. it makes all of us girls on here feel normal since fay also had a little shrine of gary in her closet....so do we. heehee! i found that so amusing! at least me and angie werent the only ones to have gary in our closet. it makes you wonder how many other of the women he had affairs with such as patricia neal, or even the other leading ladies such as helen hayes who regretted never having an affair with him, had pics of him in their closets too. heehee! im sure we wouldnt be the least bit surpised if they actually did.
  2. heehee! angie youre cracking me up. i wouldnt lose interest in him...of course he isnt a modern day star so i cant really say that, and im probably being hypocritical too, but i just had to say it. i love him no matter what.......what were we talking about? heehee!
  3. that is interesting about abbott and costello, i absolutely love them and didnt know that about what lou costello did. wow!! i was never a particular fan of john wayne anyway, but i do like a couple of his films. i just dont like movies where the manly guys force women and slep them and spank them to do things. it is kinda disturbing to me and john wayne and clark gable were the kings of doing that.
  4. heehee! dan, i cant picture them married in real life either in point of fact, but you are probably right, lets continue that on another thread or on my forum. heehee! he was real mean to her and i dont like him for that. i really wished that her and walter were married in real life when i first got into her. thats before i knew he was already married. heehee!
  5. angie sis, you cant ruin my view on gary, im on your side!! heehee! i couldnt stand that he had an affair with audrey also. i loved that he converted to catholicism toward the end. that is my religion. heehee!
  6. ronnie-baby-colman, i indubidably cant forget about him! okay so they are the only three gentlemen in hollywood. heehee! i couldnt even comprehend the fact on marrying george sanders after marrying ronnie colman. heehee! *I know I sound like I have blinkers on but i just think people in general in Hollywood (and elsewhere) back then were nicer all around. Being kind and decent counted and you soon heard about it if you weren't. Not like now, when everyone is so "free" to be mean because they have to "express themselves". Sheesh!* you are so right and that is so true april!!
  7. aaawwww dan your sweet. i guess we all picture him differently on what he was like in real life, i must agree with you (again heehee) on that i dont think he had any enemies, i dont even think john wayne was his enemy.i have read quite a lot on their differences, but i dont think they hated each other. i cant think of any other actor beside gary and good ol' walter that were gentlemanly to everyone they knew in real life. they just had practically no enemies, and i think that is so gallant and picturesque!!!!!! im willing to overlook that little detail of the black lists...heehee! i know you have this incredible dislike toward people who supported the blacklist thing, but walter really was gallant to everyone he met and knew in real life and i cant help but really love him.
  8. aaaaaawwww april you are being modest again. dan, i know you didnt mean it to be in a negative way. but when i get married i wouldnt want my husband cheating on me even if it is hard to say no, it is hard for me to picture him as an old man falling for younger women easily. i just cant picture him like that for some reason, i just like picturing him in real life (when he was younger) as the sweet and innocent type who doesnt know how to shoot a gun and is completely oblivious to why little girls swoon over him by fanting. that is how i always pictured him up until he was in his fifties then i pictured him as a mix between Hanging Tree and friendly persuasion on a sweeter note. heehee! 9. *As an older movie star I picture him as being most like the character in Love in the Afternoon in real life and perhaps like he was in Ten North Frederick (Older guy going after younger women type).* dan, see i really thought the opposite og him in real life. i always pictured him in his late years as he is in the Hanging Tree and in Friendly Persuasion but softer and sweeter. do you know what i mean? i never pictured him in real life as the sort who went for younger women.
  10. *Of course, the reason I like Gary in MotW and The Hanging Tree may simply be because I definitely like his "hard guy" roles best.* well i definitely love his goody two shoe/innocent roles best, but he does a prodigiously good job in his "hard guy" roles too. i thought was so convincing in the Hanging Tree as the misunderstood doctor. he never came across my mind as an evil person in that movie. i think he just protective and a bit misunderstood perhaps.
  11. i couldnt have said that better kim, i was actually thinking the exact same thing!!! i like to go to movies and come out being happy and that doesnt happen unless the actor or actress gives it her all and really knows what he or she is doing in that certain movie im watching. blowing wild is a great example.....i know kim's not particular to blowing wild, but i also know that angie thinks it is a fairly cute movie. im sorta in the middle of both of your opinions for this movie. i thought it was an okay movie, but i wasnt entirely impressed with gary's performance and i didnt feel that he gave 100 percent to it either, like i didnt feel he gave too much in Design for Living.i just feel that when i sit down to watch a movie, the people should give it their all. they should look like they are enjoying themselves, or in dramatic cases, they should look like they are really trying to be that person they are acting out. does this even make sence?i feel like im getting lost in my own words heehee!
  12. *"Let me clarify one thing: sexuality does not mean a women has to act like Marilyn Monroe or Jean Harlow or Barbara Stanwyck in Baby Face. Not at all. I find the taste of sexuality is at its sweetest when it's subtle, although still quite palpable." * those are exactly my sentiments and very well said! my goodness a girl cant even get to sleep without missing two pages worth of great discussions. heehee! i have watched many movies of rita hayworth, and marylin monroe, and ava gardner, and jean harlow, and all thor other sex goddesses, but i really dont see what the whole deal is with them. i cant stand seeing a woman throwing herself at a man in the sense that the yare being sexual about it. i HATE watching that, but thats just me. i think men and women can be just as attractive without taking their clothes off, or being sexual at all about it, granted i do like a few modern movies that arent exactly what you would call nonsexual. okay so we all have our weeknesses. heehee! angie, i cant believe you found that melody jones picture!!! yay!!!!!!! you know i printed out that one. heehee!
  13. welcome back john!!!! were all glad to see you on here again!! oh dan we musn't forget now voyager.
  14. i saw that comment dan, and thought the exact same thing you did. i also saw another one somewhere else. they said that the movie was too cheesy b/c what happened in the movie could never happen in real life so they picked it apart till there was nothing left to pick and made other horrible comments on it too. it doesnt have to be able to happen in real life for it to be a good movie. have these people ever heard of sci-fi? i know it isnt in the category of sci-fi but i think you get the point. heehee! this movie has to be on of the greatest movies ever made for crying out loud!! greer gives one of the best performances in the history of movies here and so does ronnie colman. i was never partial to A Double Life either and didnt think it was that great of a movie. it was completely out of Random Harvest's league.
  15. ooooooh i love asta. he is my favorite movie doggy!! he was such a cutie!!! when i get a doggy of my own i am going to name him asta, and when i get a little kitty i will name her egglantine. i love that name from Bedknobs and Broomsticks. heehee!! i love the pic of Myrna loy and will powell!!
  16. april i love those pics of all of them!! they are great. i esp love the one of abbott and costello. heehee! my favorites. hey dan! im glad youre reaching out to the great comedy teamings. i know youll laugh up a storm at each new one you see. they are so excting to watch over and over again. they are the kind of movies that you can never get tired of laughing to, although maybe im not the best example to listen to, my grandparents pick on me for laughing too much. i guess im just a giggly teen, but i hope i never grow out of it. i love to laugh!!! heehee! may i suggest a few for you dan? pretty please*with puppy dog eyes*? i think youll like A Night at the Opera, A day at the Races, Room Service, Naughty Nineties, Meet the Killer, Hold That Ghost, Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein, In the Navy, and all abbott and costello's other movies. heehee!
  17. i love watching essy movies. they are sooo cute!! i have most of her movies and am still collecting as we speak. heehee! i think my fav of hers would have to be either bathing beauty, or thrill of a romance or dangerous when wet. but i love all of them.oh and i love duchess of idaho and million dollar mermaid too. she looks so beautiful in the water and always managed to never lose her makeup or mess up her hair in the water. they say she was the reason they came up with water proof makeup and she wore it all through her movies. they also used to put jello in her hair to keep it still in the water. i watched the private screenings and i remember her talking about how dry her skin always was. the poor girl!! she is still alive today and has her own bathing suit store. i loved her bathing suits so much in her movies that i just had to get one from her store online. they are gorgeous. i got one that is white with black polka dots. its has a halter neck and a little skirt at the bottom. i love wearing it!! it is so pretty!! she is defintely different and a one of a kind star.ever since i first saw her movies, every time the olympics come on i have to watch the syncronized swimming and then i think of essy. heehee!
  18. oh my goodness i just received my birthday present from my godmother last night and one of the things inside that she gave me, was a vintage picture because she knows i love those, and guess who the picture was of? youll never believe it........lily langtry!!!!! i didnt even know she was a real actresses. i thought they just made her up for The Westerner. she was beautiful in real life too. it is such an exquisite picture and my godmother didnt even know lily langtry had anything to do with The Westerner. talk about a coincidence. i was so excited!!!! i squealed and gave her such a big hug! heehee!
  19. oh you have never seen four men and a prayer cashette??? wow! i cant wait to hear what you have to say when you see this one. you will absolutely love it!! i know i did the first time i saw it. it is one of the few my mother seems to like watching with me, but thats only b/c she thinks the men in it are hotties. heehee! i think they are too in point of fact, but dont anyone tell gary i said that. heehee! i havent seen *the hatchet man* or *they call it sin* either and cant wait at all to see those. well you certainly did a great job finding that pic GM!! thanks!!
  20. *So you actually get in the mood to cry? Well, that's interesting. So what Gary films make you cry the most?* mellow greetings from yooky dooky frankie! heehee! yes when i am in the mood to watch a sappy movie, that means im in the mood to cry. heehee! i dont know why. i love crying to happy endings, but i dont like crying to sad endings, but i do that an aweful lot to be honest. heehee! the gary films that make me cry mostly would have to be: Pride of the Yankees, a Farewell to Arms, They Came to Cordura, Meet John Doe, Peter Ibbetson. i also cry to my favorite one of his too, Along Came Jones, but the reason i cry to that one is b/c i looooooove the ending to it sooo much. i love it when movies end with the couple kissing or getting married. its like watching while you were sleeping, or french kiss on a more modern note. i cry buckets to those too, b/c they end so beautifully. i think i cry to almost all of greer's films too. oh i also cry to gary's, seven days' leave. i cant forget that one. ive always been that way ever since i can remember.
  21. oh goodness i just had to watch random harvest last night even though i have the bought copy. i just love watching my fav movies when they come on tv again and again. heehee! dan you need to buy this one on dvd. there are bouns features on it including the radio broadcast ronnie and greer did together, so we get to hear their exquisite voices once again, the trailor for it, a couple shorts that played in the theater before they showed the movie then. i just love it!! it is defintely worth it!!! i think i used a bit more then half my tissue box last night, b/c i couldnt stop crying no matter what scene was playing. it was the perfect late night movie to watch...really, but i couldnt seem to get that red velvet cake out, b/c i was crying too much and couldnt eat anything while watching it. heehee! but i did have my blanket and pillow behind my head to get comfortable. heehee!
  22. that is so gorgeous GM!! did you colorize that yourself?
  23. you two are cracking me up to pieces!! heehee! you know what i think? i think we three would get extremely jealous if we saw a large cword of women running toward him. ill tell you what i think we would do. we would run faster toward him first and be grabbing his arm telling him to run away from them. that way, we would save him, and he would be grateful for us, and who knows what would happen...asking out on a date. okay so im overexaggerating it, but hey, what did yu expect? heehee!
  24. aaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwww!! i get choked up with both version of angels in the outfield too, and i love watching the sandlot too. that is a cute one.
