  1. Hey Cinie!! What do you mean, past my bedtime? I'm growing up now, silly! Slowly, but surely that is...Goodness me. Heehee! I don't see evil. What I see is a mischievous promise for all those brave lucky men. My preference is GLO-LO as Debbie rather than as Vicki. I found "THE BIG HEAT" much more interesting. Watching Broderick Crawford bellow is not quite my idea of a good time...though I do like him in "ALL THE KING'S MEN." That picture you posted below of Gloria is absolutely stunnnnning!!! Maybe "evil" isn't the best word to describe her characters, but there is so much mischievousness about her. She plays it quite well! Why specifically do you like The Big Heat more than Human Desire, other than her character and the fact that you prefer Broderick Crawford in a more handsome roll? Now, go to bed!!! What's funny is that night, I actually did go to bed right when you posted this, and I didn't even get to read it. heehee!
  2. Scaredy Cat! What do you expect?! hey, im not a scary person! Greer would act as a lady in a situation such as this, so i'll let that one slide... Yes, but she's a lady. are you saying i'm not a lady?! What?! Debby thinks money, material items, and booze is what it's all about. You know, like Miss G. Then she meets Dave. Then she starts to want something else. I beg your pardon!! Greer was never into any of that! In a sense he did bring out a good side of her, you are right, but she was still a big flirt and always would be. you see those eyes? would you want to be alone in a room with her? Is that a trick question? oy vey, you would be in a room with her forever and not even know it if she hypnotized you into doing something. Heehee!
  3. you see those eyes? would you want to be alone in a room with her?
  4. No! Scaredy Cat! Ha! Greer would act as a lady in a situation such as this, so i'll let that one slide... But Debby turns into a sweet girl! She saves the day! Semi-sorta. I always feel there is more to her character than meets he eye and it continually drives me up the wall when I watch that movie and I can't figure out what's missing. There are a few characters like that for me in Lang films.
  5. Who let the back door open?! And you've got lots of evil in your eyes! What's that suppose to mean?! That's a fine how do you do! You're suppose to be sweet and say, "Oh hello there, lovely to see you today!" Heehee! I never have evil in my eyes unlike Glo! Why do you think she gets away with everything she does? I mean really? Aldo Annie was just in disguise as a sweet girl and then she turns into Debbie! Edited by: butterscotchgreer on Feb 4, 2011 12:01 AM
  6. Hey Cinie! The first double-feature spotlighted our very own GLO-LO in all her kittenish glory in Fritzie?s "HUMAN DESIRE? and "THE BIG HEAT.? Poor Gloria...the girl can?t help it. It?s just the way she?s drawn. There?s no respite for her ( or us ) even when she?s wearing a long-sleeved turtle- neck. As Vicki in "...DESIRE? and Debbie in "...HEAT? Gloria has made pacts with brutish devils and big-time operators. Frankly I agree with you! Heehee! The girl always looked so mysterious with a spark of evil in her eye. Although I must say that her character in Human Desire isn't as complex as "Debbie" in Heat, for me.
  7. 1) Your favorite Fred & Ginger dance number? *"The Piccolino" in Top Hat. I mean, it's such a fun little dance! Heehee!* 2) Your favorite dancing partner for Gene Kelly? *I love him with Frank Sinatra and Judy Garland best, even though Judy technically wasn't considered a dancer. I just think they had awsesome chesmistry.* 3) Your favorite Marx Brother musical number? *I don't really have a favorite Marx Brothers musical moment as they are all so cute and fun!* 4) Your favorite moment of singing in a film that is not a musical *Rita Hayworth in Gilda singing, "Don't Blame it on Mame," and of course Greer Garson in Random Harvest singing and dancing to, "She's Ma daisy." * 5) Your favorite moment of dancing in a film that is not a musical *Clark Gable dancing to "Puttin' on the Ritz" in Idiot's Delight. So unlike him, but he did a great job!* Edited by: butterscotchgreer on Feb 1, 2011 11:45 AM
  8. Oh my goodness! Big T, I just saw youy on "My Perspective" On TCM!! I got so excited to see you on there once again and (wouldn't you know it), talking about *Out of the Past* and *Psycho*. heehee! I just got finished watching *The Doctor and the Girl* with Glenn Ford and I hadn't seen this is such a long while. Its funny, because when I remember seeing it for the first time as a little girl, I remember it a lot differently than how I just saw it. There's such a refineness about Mr. Ford in pretty much of all his movies, but in this particular movie, he's like the mean guy on the block who turns into a knight in shining armour doctor that you just wanna capture off the screen and get to know, because he makes it so believable. All of the background emotions of a doctor that you don't ordinarily see in these movies, he portrays with a sense of integrity. It adds to the sophistication of his character and the whole relationship between him and his father; trying to gain his father's approval for his wife, and starting his own practice. Another highlight of this film for me is Gloria DeHaven. I am in love with all of her musical movies and her crystal clear voice, but after seeing her as the calamity stricken baby sister of Mr. Ford, I thought she did an amazing job! Curtis Bernhardt did a fantastic job in this awkward film for the 1940's. It really is very unique for that time, because of what Gloria DeHaven's characters goes through. I was quite surprised at the fact that they actually pointed out that she was, first of all, pregnant, and second of all, unwed. That wasn't even heard of in society and they really took a chance with it.
  9. Happy birthday big T!!!!! I hope your big day today was fun with lots of hugs!! I just love all these birthdays next to each other! Its like a big family party day after day with a whole bunch of love from everyone!
  10. Happy belated birthday, Lynn!!!! I hope your special day was full of smiles, cowboys, and joyfullenss! Sorry I'm late!
  11. "I keep tuning into the Kardashians. Some sort of horrific fascination takes hold of me. But it's usually not a good idea to watch this before a meal." - < ( BronxGirl ) > You?re right about that, Girlie. Has Bruce just totally lost his manhood in that House of Botox, Estrogen & Bikini Waxing? Yeesh Louise! OH MY GOODNESS!!!! HEEEEEEEHEEEEEEEE!!! My mother watches that show and I always turn my nosey up at it. But you are sooooo right, Bronxie! Rosalind Russell in Auntie Mame, Natalie Wood in Penelope, Marilyn Monroe in The Prince and the Showgirl and Irene Dunne in The Awful Truth are among the many who give me courage when I go out there socializing. Which was so long ago at this point...all those movies might have been in their first run. JUST KIDDING!! HOWDY DAHLINK! You are one of the strongest women I know, silly goose! I just made Joe watch Auntie Mame the other day and I told him it was one of my favorites with Roz Russell and he said, "Who in the world is that?" I answered, "who? Auntie Mame or Roz Russell?" and replied back to me with laughter on the verge, "Why do you ask me these questions when you always know the answer?" then I said to him while snickering, "because I just love to see your face scrounge up at them constantly!" so then I described who each person was and he asked me, "where do you store all this useless information?"........Me: "in the useless information department of my brain." Honestly! heehee! I really do admire Roz Russell's courage as Auntie Mame! She went through a lot and always kept so bubbly about everything! My kinda girlie! She makes everyone want an aunt like her to cheer us up when we feel blue on a down day.
  12. Somehow I figured your list would have Clash By Night as the number 1. I LOVED it! Although a few of them did surprise me. I didn't know you liked The Blue Gardenia and The Scarlet Street so much! You know what, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance is a great example of the versatile work that Lee Marvin can pull off as a villain. Frtz did a really goood job of helping Marvin bring out his bad boy side. Heehee!
  13. 'ello! how is everyone this fine and loverly day? that was terrific, t. i like what you said about Lang's "devotion to the camera". he certainly went for the jugular with his visuals in key scenes, like those you described. that's why i think he was a director who's films can be very "powerful". I think every great direction had a different devotion to the camera in his or her way. What are you favorite Lang movies? i had the reverse experience, having seen him in countless villain roles before i could warm to him as a nice guy. heehee! What's with that? which villains do you think he is the best at? you just need to be you and you're doing just great. oh goodie goodie!!
  14. good evening dahlink!! And Everyone!!!! it wasn't too bad. you're too modest dahlink! So how do you think The Big Heat compares to While the City Sleeps? I like the former movie much more. Have you ever seen M? I just think the style of directing by Fritz comes out in both movies in certain scenes that shows the director's true talent and imagination. The two movies don't necessarily compare in similarity, however when I picture this, I see the Lang's mind in a diferent perspective...for example the scene in The Big Heat where "Debby" gets a face full of coffee. This scene shows a lot of emotion. As a matter of fact, this kind of filming was the beginning of noir passion for me. This style of Fritz's devotion to the camera pondered in my mind. When the City Sleeps has an interesting and equally thrilling matter of sequencess when the killer track down "Mobley's" girl, and he debated with himself over the fact that she may not have even loved him at all to start with and it just kills him inside. I also love that Lee Marvin plays such a good villain in The Big Heat. I am not used to seeing him as persona cruel and rather love seeing him as a semi-"good" guy who is really goofy like in Donavan's Reef or Cat Ballou. It was so hard for me to process this image at first, but when it sinks in, it intrigues me watching Marvin in this role. I just love watching you guys write with such passion and I can never write like you guys, so i'm trying really hard. is it working? heehee! Have you ever seen M? Oh yeah! i've been pondering that too while reading your posts; you guys have been doing awesome with it!
  15. you made chicken dumpling soup? sounds yummy! how was it? by the way, I just watched a Fritz movie the other day.The Big Heat. I love comparing this to one of his other good ones While The City Sleeps. I don't know why, but my mind always crosses paths with certain scenes that compare his directing style when watching either one.....it's sorta like comparing the directing style of Hitch while watching Notorious and Suspicion back to back and doing the same thing. Maybe I'm weird. Heehee! But I love doing that! It's like a little puzzle in your head.
  16. Does this mean I'm going to get hanged? i'd count on it!! Heehee!
  17. I just found out that the Alamo Drafthouse is playing a Greer Garson movie FINALLY!! They are playing MRS. MINIVER I can't believe I can finally see my greer on the big screen!!! I'm completely ecstatic!!!
  18. Hey Ollie! How are you, buddy?!! You?re funny! We had some rain showers here, but not too much. Thank you for the warning about the tornado watch, that was kind of you. How did it go over there where you are?
  19. well we smoked him out. go to it, glove lady! I?m trying but he?s being stubborn! This being mean thing just isn?t my cuppa fancy?..hhmmmm. I?ll try harder. Heehee! my reputation is faded on all fronts. Don?t say that, dahlink! You are still the Queen Bee here, silly! why were they picking on you? they better watch out Well they pick on me just for the heck of it, because I suppose I put myself in these predicaments. Heehee! Go figure. Just ask ole? dutch white boy, he?ll tell you. How are you lately? Baking any yummy cakes? Don?t let Frankie know, though, he?ll steal them before you can taste it.
  20. oh honestly! NOW you bring up the mittens! so like you to say something like that!
  21. im here with my long black gloves! they are right here waiting for him to show up! heehee your reputation for cuppas is fading, dahlink! its okay today i only had like two or three. my co-workers kept picking on me today. heehee! so i was being distracted.
  22. i've noticed. Frankie has been saying things about you like you being snooty! i just had to fight back, naturally. heehee! i just had some cinnamon spice tea. it was delicious! how many cuppas have you had today?
  23. well i certainly am glad to hear that. all this studying gets so boring without my old movie buddies!
  24. Uh, did you say something up there about a pirate? My ears perk up when I hear something like that especially if there is a princess involved. Not that I am so important that anyone would talk about me, mind you, but we pirates are often underrated (although in my case, underrated doesn't apply since it has been firmly established that I am simply lowly rated). How the heck are you anyway, Miss T? Quite good, I gather, since I see you are giggling. OH MY GOSHLY! I didn?t even see this post! How could I miss this?! I?m sooooo sorry mon pirate!!! I miss your pirate poems! Go ahead and chime in! I?ve been sooooo busy! I just took a law exam and have three more before the end of next week. Oy vey!! Goodness me, that?s why I haven?t been here very much. I?ve been studying like crazy. I have been reading everything on here, so I don?t get too home sick. Heehee! I do graduate in May, finally, so that?s good! What?s new with you sailor?
  25. I'm going to vote also for Most Favorite Cameo with the Bing "interruption" at the end of PRINCESS & PIRATE. That Mayo "speech" to her dad at the end - "He's so handsome, so wonderful, so smart..." and Bob is just busting out of his buttons with pride. Then does the GREAT explosion at the end, talking to us, the audience. Great fun. Heehee! The first time I saw it, I was so giddy, because I though Bob would actually end up with the girl in the end of Princess and the Pirate and then Bing had to show up and make me pout, but then I giggled. Heehee! Bing did a great job with the cameo, though. You don't expect it and I think that's one of the reason it is so fantastic!
