  1. "The STARS aren't actors atall, they're STARS...personalities that somehow reach out and touch contemporary audiences." The people who "today" make their living on screen are ALL actors, some less qualified than others but they are NOT STARS. "Just imagine if Joan Crawford were suddenly thrust upon the scene, full blown and at her prime. Carefully dressed with everything matching...diamond braceletted and emerald brooched" She'e be laughed out of town" I don't have to imagine Joan ALL decked out to the beehives, I see her quite often in her films and it never fails to AMAZED me how a small lady like her could pull-off such elaborate and fabulous creations in such a beautiful fashion. A CLASSIC WOMAN like Crawford was at the prime of her career "will never be laughed at" regardless of how "dated" some people will want to think she is AND if anything they ( I ) will welcome her with OPEN arms. "What passes for glamour today, is just yesterday's rejects" What passes for "glamour" today is the sad and most disappointing reality that we don't have as good as the movie fans of yesteryear had it AND I would put "any" so-called rejects of Hollywood's Golden Age next to the biggest and most glamorous "stars" of today and speaking for myself...the hook to pull them off stage will go to the latter. "There are some bonafide actors today, but they don't get the big parts because they are artists, not con artists. That's why the same junk is being peddled year in and year out, with the same STARS in them...they rake in the big bucks, and no one has to think too much." There are INDEED some bona fide actors today and they do get big parts, only problem is these parts are few and far in between to make any real progress. I very often hear people say: They Sure Don't Make Them Like They Used To AND as far as I understand it, they are referring to "actors today" No, there are no STARS left in Hollywood. Jay DePalma

  3. Enough said (on ALL refferences) relating to (THIS) topic. I mean, I can perhaps see putting a dead horse to good use BUT to go as far erecting a statute THAT I think is going too far. Jay DePalma
  4. "12 year olds may not have developed sophisticated defense mechanisms to cope with disagreements or challenges to their thinking - but if they have access to a computer, they should know how to use the "Ignore Button". The same applies to adults who find a post offensive. "All this hub-bub seems to have been a reaction to a single thread begun last Friday about a member of this community. Was it offensive to many people? Yes. And with good reason - especially to the person about which it was posted. I was the first person to reply to the Original Poster. As a friend of the injured party, I wasn't going to let the comment go unanswered. As a member in good standing of this community, that was _my_ responsiblity." As the TCM Administration clearly pointed out: It is critical that if you find another poster's comments inappropriate, you PM TCMWebAdmin. Please include their name and message URL. This is the only way your concerns will be addressed effectively and the offending post and poster will evaluated fairly. _Using the message boards is a means to retaliate will only serve to inflame the situation and get you in trouble as well. 4. Feel free to use the Ignore button This in so many words clearly disqualifies everyone who self apointed themselves and felt _his/hers responsibility_ to also engaged in a personal attack and insults against the poster. Regardless of how outstanding a member of this community "might" be and years of "brilliant" contribution to these messages boards that rules out their "right" to post as well personal feelings in the matter. "The subject of the Original Post is a member of this community and deserved to be defended but this member also happens to be, albeit in a small way, a "TCM Personality". I'm very glad for this point and I find it most contradictory at best. In my own "small way" I am entitled to the same rights as everyone else here and to consider a certain degree of "seniority" because of the years one has been a member of this community over a "newbie" something that I'm not, is absolutely hilarious. "One I do know I defended and supported to the best of my ability in the face of a very impolite rant of a thread." Same rules listed above apply here. "It was long overdue and an experience of which that all those that acted similarly should be proud" Not according to the administration of the same message board of which "we" are "all" members as well. As I see it those "proud individuals" who acted as judges in this case are just as guilty of breaking the rules listed on the code of conduct by TCM. "I find the whole situation utterly dishonest." I also find "this" situation utterly dishonest. "I just wanted to express my honest thoughts before the opportunity is taken away from me." Kyle In Hollywood I just wanted to voice my honest thoughts as well. I must admit that I learned a lesson, one that I will continue to make reference to when in doubts as to my rights to express an opinion in the future. Alot has been said about this incident and by the looks of the water the "DO NOT SWIM" sign still stands. Some of you have contributed fairly to the thread, while others are "still" shielding themselves behind "personal feelings" to excused their participation in the matter something that "we all" been so plainly made aware of _is not acceptable_ to this administration. I feel I been treated most fairly and graciously by the administration of TCM and I'm grateful for being given the opportunity to continue to add my " borrowed" bits of Bacos in my own "small way" to these boards I find so fascinating and entertaining. I want to take this moment to also apologize to TCM for my opinions. It was uncalled for and it will never happen again. I think that an apology is the appropriate way to acknowledge one's wrong doings and the only positive step to take before moving on in my quest to find even more web sites -if any left- to dig-out more material for my *original posts to which the TCM administration said to find the vast majority of my comments well informed and useful to the discussion of classic films. 5. [] Maria's still exquisite profile even in later years.
  6. [] I would like to share with you Maria Felix. The Numero Uno Latin star of all time as well as an international icon of beauty and fashion. This amazing woman was a force of nature who set her own rules in her professional and private life. At a time when it was unthinkable for a female to stand up to a man, Maria did just that and got away with it. She particularly locked horns with the big studio wigs, directors and costars who tried to lowered her rank. Through the early part of the 40's up to the late 60's Maria worked in her native Mexico and Europe. To her credits 47 films are registered and many television appearances. The French consider her one of their own and she kept one house in Paris where she would spent a few months every year until her death in 2002. To me Maria was the Spanish speaking Joan Crawford. When Hollywood came calling, Maria visited the studios and met with the directors and stars working there at the time. Unfortunately, a career in the Dream Factory was not to be. She refused every offer made to her for stereotyping reasons and said that if she was to play an Indian woman, she would do it in her own country. I think it was a pity and a waste for both parties and as result we were denied the magic of their collaboration. I can only imagine the magnificent costumes that Adrian, Banton and Jean Louis would have created for Maria. I hope you enjoy seen her fabulous face and reading about her. Feel free to share your comments. Thank you Jay DePalma
