as of this morning I note TCM's shopping center has dropped the inclusion of the 29 version in the description of extras. I received an e mail from the author of a well known classic film website stating "a last minute legal problem with the 29 version prevented its inclusion but a separate DVD is planned in the future."
-
anyone announced for a special? my choice: JEANNE MOREAU. talk about a long career.
-
no 1929 version. I have my copy. I will talk with the Phantom about placing the chandelier over WARNER HOME VIDEO. SERIOUSLY, truly sad. what a wasted wasted opportunity to see a version without a tacked on censorship ending although I have not watched the alternate ending yet. Warner Home Video owes us to rush out a separate DVD of the 1929 version quickly. and include the very loose remake THE UNFAITHFUL for good measure. Ann Sheridan needs more DVD exposure. SHAME SHAME SHAME ON YOU WARNER AND TURNER HOME VIDEO.

This shocking scandal regarding THE LETTER without the 1929 release should rip apart the video industry!!! we must get to the bottom of it!!! he he ha ha. I am mad!! it is not on the DVD yet look what this website says:
http://www.flipsidedvds.com/dvds/letter.html
perhaps some releases have it and some don't. some mix up???
-
If you are going to complain, I would print out the description on MOVIES UNLIMITED/TURNER for THE LETTER before they change it. as of now, mon a.m., still says it includes the 1929 version. just a suggestion.
-
could be nasty and order 100 copies of THE LETTER and then return them all due to promising what is not there. he he ha ha. but TURNER brings me too much pleasure. If it was FOX, I'd be tempted after pulling the Charlie Chan festival suddenly two summers ago. cheer up. a local film critic told me TCM has remastered the 1929 THE LETTER so it should show up eventually. I hope.
-
does anyone from TURNER read this board. They are still advertising that Tuesday's release of THE LETTER DVD will include the 1929 version. If I order it from their website above, I should hold them to it. Warner home video claims they never said it would be included.

CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY is available from Mother England. on DVD. at least a few months ago. my favorite source is www.sendit.com
MIRANDA, with Glynis JOHNS, someone asked about. a print is for bid on ebay. already up to 30.00. do not blame me if the print is not good
-
and people are still saying happy new year!!!! darn it. what a wasted opportunity. the 29 would have made it a truly great release. oh well, might as well go buy Amber's book now. #2 on amazon and at least amazon was not hoodwinked by warner home video.
-
also, Amazon and DVD planet are pretty good at listing extras and they do not for this release. they list nothing. so I am hoping the 29 Letter is buried therein somewhere like DEATH TAKES A HOLIDAY is on the remake's DVD special edition.
-
here is where no LETTER 29 started:
http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htforum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=221222
but I received an e mail from an expert who claims often the version sent for review does not always include another movie, just material related to the main title. we shall see.

Amber Frey will make her film debut as Lorelei in GENTS PREFER BLONDES. serio, that great gal from PHANTOM OF THE OPERA will have the Russell role. but I would think Zellwegger would get Lorelei before she is too old.

Happy 2005. gotta be better than 2004. those poor sad victims in So Asia. I just discovered this board after years of being a TCM fan. actually, COURT TV was nasty IMO and shut their board down last night for a few days for fear of New Year's Eve people getting out of control. so here I am at TCM and glad I found it. I also wanted to vent about the possible exclusion of the 1929 THE LETTER as an extra on the DVD of the 1940 version due next week.
-
meant to say NOW OUT OF OOP, not not.
-
a boxed DVD set of old NORMA SHEARER films. most are not OOP on VHS so hope that is a good sign.
and a boxed DVD set of the grat MARIE DRESSLER POLLY MORAN comedies...or at least show them again. thanks
and the 1929 THE LETTER as promised for the THE LETTER 1940 DVD as an extra!!!!
-
CAUGHT can be purchased on amazon.com on VHS.
-
CIRCUS WORLD. There are 3 under 30.00 DVDs at amazon.com but guess these are pan and scan.
-
FOOTSTEPS IN THE FOG COLUMBIA 1955 sold for over 75.00 on eaby.
I am after that and NEW YORK CONFIDENTIAL.
I would think the copyright owners would get a clue and sell these rare films on DVD in special editions.

> Myidolspencer - I got John Wayne's CIRCUS WORLD on

some of those ebay sellers are exasperating. the word I love is RARE. Or 7 of 10 but rare. some have been pretty bad. VIEW FROM POMPEY'S HEAD suddenly became hot on ebay. one seller of a pan and scan cut print tried to tell me the film's negative was lost and it would never be shown or seen again. then a very good DVD widescreen print popped up on ebay. the worst I bought is THE 13TH LETTER a fair remake of LE CORBEAU. It is such a bad dupe you cannot read any of the letters!!!!!
-
IT AIN'T HAY is availabe from Movies UNlimited on VHS. not a bad copy. how they do it, I do not know
-
re: Miranda
you might try contacting the BFI through their magazine SIGHT AND SOUND or diretly.
google search: SIGHT AND SOUND
-
I also find it strange that MOVIES UNLIMTED lists they have the 1951 DEATH OF A SALESMAN. I find this hard to believe and they will not return my e mails. I am not a trouble maker just want them to get this and THE LETTER correct.
-
perhaps lawyers can answer this. what about THE LETTER DVD. IT WAS ANNOUNCED to contain the 1929 version and now I am told it is not on the DVD!!!! TCM and MOVIES UNLIMITED continue to claim it is an "extra". what can be done. I want my LETTERs. the 1929 version does exist so they cannot use that it does not as an excuse.

DEATH OF A SALESMAN with Fredric March in one of his great performances continues to be sold on ebay in a horrible dupe.
ditto MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT 59.
COLUMBIA should wake up.
glad to see they are DVDing 20TH CENTURY, WE WERE STRANGERS and some others.

FILMS THAT CANNOT BE SEEN...DUE TO LEGAL PROBLEMS

DEATH OF A SALESMAN. Does anyone know why MOVIES UNLIMITED is the only one listing the 1951 version on DVD. I have e mailed them with no reply asking them this question. thank you.
