Holy Cow metz!............I always went to the RKO Bushwick as a kid! ( Did you ever sit up in the Third Balcony that had a 45 Degree Angle? )........Across the street was "The Monroe" a cheaper movie that showed three movies........but a tough crowd attended. Up the block on Broadway was the Loews Gates.......with the great marble staircase......where I saw many a movie including "Psycho"!
Another movie was "The Empire" but that closed and is now a church! (So is the Loews Gates & The RKO Bushwick is now a High School.
In Ridgewood Queens, a neighborhood nearby, there was the RKO Madison on Myrtle Avenue..."The Parthenon"...now a Bingo Hall..and the "Ridgewood Theater" which is still open and will soon celebrate the 100th anniversary of its existence. Small World...Isn't It?
I lived on Linden Street between Bushwick Avenue & Evergreen Avenue and attended St.Barbara's Catholic school on Central Avenue & Bleecker Street....Then Bushwick High School on Irving Place!
