  6. Hey metz....you just about got my age right ....I don't remember the movie houses you mentioned with the exception of the "Rivoli"... I grew up farther down the line on Marion Street & Howard Avenue and went to the "Colonial Movie" House on Broadway (Near the Chauncey Street Station on the Jamacia Line and now also a Baptist Church) where I saw my share of triple features..serials...10 cartoons...etc. and walked up Howard Avenue to go to the Bushwick & Lowes Gates......(About 10 Blocks) to see the movies that the Colonial would get after they showed them at the RKO Bushwick & Lowes Gates.

I moved to Linden Street in Bushwick when I was 10 and got nosebleeds from sitting in the third balcony at the RKO Bushwick by then.

I moved to Glendale when I was 21 on Summerfield Street & Seneca Avenue and lived two blocks away from Myrtle Avenue. Those were great days back then...but now you need a Tank to go through those neighborhoods today as they became shoddy. The only movie House that remains open is "The Ridgewood" who will celebrate 100 years of showing movies soon! ( But there is even talk of them closing that down)

So neighbor...here I am in Lake Ronkonkoma and your in Florida...but we are linked by similar memories on how great Brooklyn was when we were young!

It is great to talk about the "Old Days" like two old men sitting on a park bench!

At least we have good memories...right metz?

    Best Wishes "Neighbor"

Let's hope Seven is a lucky number for posting the Happy Birthday Thread...and we will be able to post it with no trouble on the 8th day.

    Also Jive Software :P

  8. Very Funny Fred! I remember your "Show of Shows" every Saturday Night!....My favorite skit was "This is Your Life" with Sid as the unwilling participant & being chased all over the studio by the Ushers. Howard Morris was hilarious as Sid's "Uncle Goofy"!

The take off of the movie " From Here to Eternity" is a classic also....when they throw Cold Water on Sid & Imogene during the Beach Scene. Nothing compares to these "Live" shows! Outstanding!

Thanks...I remember "The Clock" routine and is one of my all-time favorites also! GREAT STUFF!

  9. Holy Cow metz!............I always went to the RKO Bushwick as a kid! ( Did you ever sit up in the Third Balcony that had a 45 Degree Angle? )........Across the street was "The Monroe" a cheaper movie that showed three movies........but a tough crowd attended. Up the block on Broadway was the Loews Gates.......with the great marble staircase......where I saw many a movie including "Psycho"!

Another movie was "The Empire" but that closed and is now a church! (So is the Loews Gates & The RKO Bushwick is now a High School.

In Ridgewood Queens, a neighborhood nearby, there was the RKO Madison on Myrtle Avenue..."The Parthenon"...now a Bingo Hall..and the "Ridgewood Theater" which is still open and will soon celebrate the 100th anniversary of its existence. Small World...Isn't It?

I lived on Linden Street between Bushwick Avenue & Evergreen Avenue and attended St.Barbara's Catholic school on Central Avenue & Bleecker Street....Then Bushwick High School on Irving Place!

  10. ( It took me 45 minutes to get this reply to you metz....so you better laugh! )

You've Got a Deal!.................As long as it wasn't the "Other" End of the Horse you were offering!

"Your wrong"........the only thing that is functioning is my BLOOD PRESSURE as Jackie Wilson's Hit Song in 1967 sang.............."HIGHER & HIGHER!"

    :P to Jive Software
