Waltzes from Vienna (Alfred Hitchcock) 13. The 13th Letter (Otto Preminger) 14. Dragonwyck (Joseph L. Mankiewicz) 15. Naked Alibi (Gloria Grahame/Jerry Hopper) 16. The Crimson Kimono (Samuel Fuller) -- Airs on TCM on June 24th at 8:00 PM 17. Rancho Notorious (Fritz Lang) 18. Moonrise (Frank Borzage) 19. The Phenix City Story (Phil Karlson) 20. American Guerrilla in the Philippines (Fritz Lang) There are many Luis Bunuel, Jean Renoir, Eric Rohmer, and Douglas Sirk films I'd love to see, but I chose to keep them off my list. I also kept off some obvious big films like The Killers, Ace in the Hole, Mr. Arkadin, etc., since I know it's only a matter of time before I see them.
  2. I had a frog with me in the elevator today. Did you kiss him?
  3. Hey, Web -- "I dare say Tyrone Power has been treated as well or better than any star on DVD." John Wayne, too, as far as quantity of films released. Most definitely. The Duke is the biggest DVD star. That makes sense to me. But I'm completely amazed by how well Tyrone Power has been treated by Fox. It's rather refreshing. I believe it's very smart of Fox to make the 10-film box set affordable. That's something I really loved about Warner's most recent film noir box set. They gave us double the films for basically the same price as their previous film noir boxes, which contained five films in each. Hola, Missy G -- You just can't leave well enough alone, can you? Admit it, you just adore Mary Cooper. Yes! No girl looks better all dolled-up than Mary! FOX also does well by lesser known, second-rate Irish-American directors. Yes... again! Who would have ever thought Fox would give a hack like John Ford his own little "treasure chest"? Stunning. :p
  4. Molo, my man! You selected Gene Tierney! I can't resist another round of choices: 1) Ingrid Bergman; 2) Myrna Loy; 3) Constance Bennett. And if you are keeping score, Molo, I didn't select my actress wife, Mrs. Gable. Carole's beauty runs deeper than her looks.
  5. The Pretend Doll now has to go to her pretend doll house to look up some more "recipes" for her Real cauldron. REAL witches have REAL cauldrons. What "recipes"? I thought you gave up baking cakes.
  6. Go ahead and give Nat your vote, Molo. 1. Grace Kelly 2. Gene Tierney 3. Gloria Grahame Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh... Hi, Miss Milland -- If couldn't select my previous choices, I would select the following: 1. Ava Gardner 2. Lana Turner 3. Rita Hayworth
  7. Then dance with me now and fill my heart with laughter. Throw your arms around me and never let go. I won't promise to love you, but I'll promise to try. I'll try just for you, if you dance with me now. :x :x :x Wow! That's absolutely beautiful, Kim. Those words are to be sung and danced forever. You need to bottle them up and sell them to the world. You are an extraordinarily-talented young girl who needs to pursue writing, especially creative writing. You are very gifted.
  8. Excelente! I loved that, Coopsy's Clarita. Now that's my kind of Coop footage. Very sensual. I'm speaking of Pat Neal, of course. I really like the song. You have a knack for combining just the right music with your smoothly-edited visuals. You've got talent, girl!
  9. Oh really? Does ChiO know that? I wonder if he'll be happy to know that. Somehow I don't think so. But if he is, it might explain his confusion regarding the best American directors. Of course ChiO knows it. I'm the regular guy and he's SuperMann. There's no need to take a shot at Theresa when she's not here. That's uncalled for. Must I always defend darling, innocent, lovable, little Sweet T from you and your evil ways? You know I didn't mean her. You definitely did "MEAN" her. So it's the old "divide and conquer" ploy? You think you can start trouble between us. I'll ask Greer and Smithy what they think about THAT. You came between them, too. And now I think I know why Helen left town and what broke her and Will up---it was YOU. Who am I to conquer? You and her ain't worth it. Smithy stabbed Paula to death and buried her in the courtyard and Will fell for a sweet, little lambchop. I had nothing to do with either.
  10. Oh No!!! Please not that! I mean you, not ChiO. ChiO is my alter-ego, so you mean both of us. I don't know enough about him to start a thread anyway. That hasn't stopped you with all the other threads you start around here. And I think I've started ENOUGH threads around here...unlike some people... There's no need to take a shot at Theresa when she's not here. That's uncalled for. Must I always defend darling, innocent, lovable, little Sweet T from you and your evil ways?
  11. Because there isn't really any place to talk about TABU except in the silents forum and I don't really wander down there. You could start an F.W. Murnau thread in Films and Filmmakers. But then again, that would mean you would have to chat with me and ChiO a lot. Never mind.
  12. You sure do have more twists to your thinking than even Alfred ever did. That's a lovely compliment. And you are just twisted. I haven't talked about TABU anywhere and he wouldn't believe me anyway. If he knew I'd seen that French western, The Passion of Jeanne d'Arc, he'd probably flip. So why are you being tight-lipped? You CONSTANTLY nag me about not talking about the films that I have watched, so I know you wouldn't consider stooping to such a lowly level as mine. You better find a place to spill your hateful thoughts and start a real firestorm.
  13. There goes that selective memory again! That's a side effect from watching Coop, Ford, and Garson films. A man wishes to erase all those horrible films from his mind. So does ChiO know you watched Tabu? He hasn't seen that one yet, either. You're one up on him, Sour Kraut.
  14. Hmmm...you must have the most peculiar hearing ever, since it was a silent movie. It is? I never knew that. I thought it was a musical.
  15. Howdy, ButterscotchMONIQUE -- you are such a compulsive liar! heehee! I am not! you saud yourself that you dont "mind" that kind of stuff! What kind of stuff? traditional gentlemen dont ever lie to women....and you know darn well that you arent any gentleman i would recognize. Of course you wouldn't recognize me -- I'm a very unique, traditional gentleman. i didnt know you wore clothes in the shower frankie. oh my goodness, even the most respectable people have to be clean ya know.....unless youre lane meyer, than you have permission to wear socks....but do you look like lane meyer to me? Men are allowed to shower but women must keep their clothes on at all times. Anything less would be unbecoming. Howdy, Fordy Guns -- OK, Mr Collins, I believe you. Who in the world is Mr. Collins? Is that another cowardly Coop character? That's why you promptly set fire to your dvd of TABU, right? Because of all those revolting half-dressed natives? I watched that film just as Theresa watches films, with my hands over my eyes. It "sounded" like a masterpiece, though. Yes! He's just sour because his "lambchop" refused his proposal and married Will Kane instead. I only wish my little lamby to be happy.
  16. Sigh. I just wish that what a gentleman says and what he thinks weren't two different things! Ohh, but we do think as we say. We only imagine fully-clothed women. Any other thought would be revolting! The purpose of clothing is to wear it at all times.
  17. She pulls it off in the film, too?! All right!
  18. Howdy, Texas Tea! -- That's Helen Mirren?! Wow! She's looking super sweet in those pics, Sweet T. Thanks for posting those. Hi, Gery -- I have been meaning to thank you for posting the Conrad Veidt photos and that very interesting pic of Lilian Harvey. Excellent stuff. I don't know where you find all of these gems, but I'm glad you do. Ciao, Vile Temptress -- I hate you with a passion for taunting me with Pandora and the Flying Dutchman caps. You take too much pleasure in your evilness.
  19. Be careful, now FrankGrimes is going to ask you what movies those ads were for so he can go watch them. Ohhh, I'd never do such a thing. Haven't you heard, I'm a traditional gentleman with no interest in sexy women. Us traditional gentleman only like our women fully-clothed at all times. A woman's delicate, soft skin should never see the light of day. What a revolting thought! Can you just imagine? And you know darn well that I don't watch movies.
  20. Are you SERIOUS? They are seriously releasing all of these as a boxed set? You are not putting me on in a effort to get me to faint from hyperventilation??? You don't think I'd ever put you on, B, do you? Scratch that. I'm being serious this time. And the best news is that it's only $34.99 at Amazon right now. It's a steal. If this is the case, FOX has indeed done well by Tyrone Power. I'd have to do an inventory of my holdings (I own everything they've released)...but with the releases above, they are well on their way to a tremendous release rate on Tyrone Power films! I dare say Tyrone Power has been treated as well or better than any star on DVD. Yeah...I'm buying the westerns set (big surprise, I know ) I'm probably going to get it, too, and then donate the Coop film to the misfortunate so that they can experience poor acting.
  21. Hiya, Miss Eliza! -- Beauty strangled Beast with her long black gloves. i dont know if you remember in the movie, but she wasnt wearing gloves! No, but you are, Femme Fatale. I agree. Gene is nowhere near as bad as Miss Impassive, Gary Cooper youre just jealous of gary, b/c he looks beautiful in make-up!! That must be it. i really dont mind It Takes a Thief, but havent you noticed that she always plays characters that dont stand by her men? honestly! that girl needs a talkin' to. heehee! she should have known that cary would NEVER do such a horrid thing! How could a girl trust "The Cat"? He's sneaky. see...she looks all innocent in that pic, but really she is just waiting until it gets dark and then she'll strike! I hope! and then you soften me up with greer pics......honestly, that wont work monkey boy!...but they are beauteeeeeful! heehee! i just love greer's smile! its so pretty.... The girls with the pretty smiles are usually the most dangerous. They are hiding behind those smiles. she's happy to see smithy being real chatty. heehee! He rarely has time to chat since he's always stalking his victims. I will give Jane Austen credit, she knows that the only way a woman can be smart is if she marries a rich guy. She's right about that. Now I understand why Austen is "intelligent" reading for women. Brilliant!
  22. What's up, PK? -- I'm still waiting for a Gene Tierney set out of them Really? You? I never knew. I'd pass out if a Gene Tierney box set would actually come to fruition. I'd take a Linda Darnell and Dana Andrews box, too. A second Tyrone Power box set comes out on July 29th. It features ten films: Luck of the Irish Johnny Apollo Day-Time Wife Cafe Metropole Girls' Dormitory I'll Never Forget You That Wonderful Urge Love Is News This Above All Second Honeymoon I also like Fox's smaller boxes like the upcoming Western Classics box (Rawhide, The Gunfighter, and Garden of Evil (despite the terrible, boring actor in that one)) and the Horror Classics Collection (The Lodger, Hangover Square, The Undying Monster) I most definitely like both Warner and Fox because they treat film noir with great respect. All of their film noir releases contain commentary tracks, which is something I crave.
  23. How close is my high school French? It's better than my Latin.
  24. Bonjour, Gypsy Woman -- But if push comes to shove, it'll be hard not to choose the gal with the Gitanes and the Absinthe. Minya has both diseases? She's a bigger mess than I thought. I take back what I said about you being a gentleman. But I'm still scholarly. Ciao, Kylefornia -- "I take back what I said about you being a gentleman." - Mlle. Minya Brava! And I don't blame you a bit. He over-stepped big time today. Moi, outrepasser? J'ai une queue de cheval sensibles. Bonjour, Mlle D?esse -- Yes, we are very "tight". I'm really part Cherokee but don't tell Scar. I fibbed a little. You see, I'd like to keep MY scalp. Je ne peux pas imaginer vous mentir. Vous ?tes si doux et honn?te... et insistant.
  25. Ahem. I believe I referred to some "quotes" by you in my previous post. In them you said many bad things...not about Scar. He's just going to do me a favor and scalp you for saying them. I didn't know you were that tight with Scar. You must be 50% German, 25% Comanche, and 25% Snippy. You are certainly 100% wrongheaded.
