I aspire always to retain some mystery. Actually, I get that completely. I'll have to keep an eye on your shadow then, won't I? -

Bang-Bang, Annie -- In regards to Mr. Darcy-I swear it's only shallow and physical!!! Are you sure? I think you like more than that. You're hiding from me. Mr. Rochester, on the other hand is deliciously, darkly tormented and not at all proper. I like him very much. Now that's more like it. Crazy is good, but Bertha Rochester was psycho crazy-she wouldn't waste time with gin, cigarettes and a good double cross, she'd just stab your eyeballs out. That's bad crazy. You have a point there. The word "tigress" is tantalizing to me, though. It stabs my eyeballs. Hiya, Night Owl -- You're supposed to be in dreamland with your snobby Mr. Darcy. Don't tell me they canceled the ball. -

Hi, Annie Laurie Starr -- That IS a good line for a woman-I mean, excepting that she was crazy and everything. Crazy and everything are my kind of dames, especially if they are tigresses. Jane Eyre is actually one of my favorite books-surely it's not considered too prissy (not one of my favorite words, and not at all how I see myself)?? Mister Rochester is a good leading man. I'm starting to sense some priss with you, Trashy. Mr. Darcy? Really? Does this mean we can't be friends? Now I'm sad. You are in good with me because of your appreciation of Touch of Evil and The Night of the Hunter. It's just too bad the other ladies around here couldn't exhibit similar great taste. Instead, I have to put with Vanity Fair, Jane Austen, Gone with the Wind, Greer Garson, Gary Cooper, John Ford, and who knows what else. -
Citizen Kane vs The Third Man Orson Welles matchup
FrankGrimes replied to TripleHHH's topic in General Discussions
That was phenomenal, Gus. You have once again presented us with a well-written piece of analysis while also providing us with great personal expression. Magnifique! I truly appreciate the thought and time you put forth. Thank you. I like Citizen Kane more than The Third Man from a critical point of view but I find The Third Man to be more entertaining. Both are great favorites of mine. Orson Welles truly was a creative genius on many levels. He was a Shakespearan filmmaker. He was living art. Sadly, his genius was also his curse, like many a composer. -

I'm not trying to get Frankie to watch the movie, Thank you! At least you have a heart, unlike BitterscotchGREERDO. just respect and appreciate it, I respect and appreciate it enough not to watch it and trash it even more later. but maybe it's beyond his ability to at least see where it's coming from. No maybes about it. Maybe he's secretly jealous of all of those handsome, refined British men making women swoon. Y'all (is that proper) can have all the prim-and-priss snobs you wish to have. -

The pretend doll at the head of her class has a confession to make. My favorite novel isn't Vanity Fair, it's Jane Eyre and it occurs to me that it made for the one English novel movie right up FrankGrimes' alley: Can we believe anything you say anymore? Now "Vanity Fair" isn't #2 for you, it's "Jane Eyre"? That means "Gone with the Wind" is #4 or perhaps lower. I'm afraid darling, sweet Scarlett is not going to recover from this one. Rhett already left town, but Scarlett still believed in you for whatever foolish reason. No longer. Begrudgingly, I must admit that I do like the lines, "she sank her teeth in me like a tigress. She said she'd drain my blood." That's a feeling many men know too well. -
Hey there, Chi-TOwen -- I see that in The Blue Dahlia, but I wish the film had been in the hands of a director with more visual flair and a darker disposition. Did I hear Fritz Lang? Have I ever told you that you are a man with phenomenal taste? So have you ever seen This Gun for Hire? Ciao, Miss Gun for Hire -- That would have made this movie jump from very good to flat out AMAZING. Who are you and what have you done with Miss Goddess?! Come to think, who cares. I like you better anyways.

we have all been trying desperately to get frankiefurter to watch Pride and Prejudice, but he wont listen. he is being OBSTINATE. heehee! I'm not obstinate. Traditional gentleman are never obstinate. You and the snippy blonde are the epitome of obstinance. I read that you mentioned "Love Story", isn't the plot the same thing? Don't tell me it's not.Take away the manners, beautiful scenery, clothes and the subtlety and you've got your story. no dont take them away! thats part of the whole experience! you have to have those. they are vital in Pride and Prejudice....althought i would still be in love with the movie even if it didnt have all those wonderful things. i guess that makes me weird huh? heehee! No guessing, you are a certified weirdo, just like your Smithy. Anyone who thinks pomp and priss is wonderful needs to be institutionalized. -

Hola, CB! -- Boy, you sure know how to make a woman feel missed. Among other things. You have to understand that the British have their way of being. There are plenty of American movies with the same plot of boy meets girl, girl is poor, boy is rich ....or vice versa. The story is universal. Universally bad. Give me a minute to think of them. I read that you mentioned "Love Story", isn't the plot the same thing? Don't tell me it's not.Take away the manners, beautiful scenery, clothes and the subtlety and you've got your story. Please, take them away. Come on Frankie, ya can't deny it ! Gotcha ! Howdy, Princess Priss -- Oh, no? What about this: we need someone to drown in the chocolate! slip of the keys? will you believe that? heehee! Uh-huh. What I'm learning is that Jane Austen teaches girls to be spoiled, demanding, and violent. You only want the gloves so that you don't get chocolate on your princessy hands. well that's part of it, but i love gloves and wouldnt do anything to make them dirty! Your nose is growing. I don't know where your pretend doll went to school, but I know the Goddess was head of her class at Finishing School. knowing april, she probably went to a respectable school! so there! Knowing Miss Goddess it WAS a respectable school. -

Hi, CB! It's always a pleasure. No, dear, not brainwashed; just suckers for a good romantic story. Same thing. Jane Austen is the master of subtle romance.Perhaps there are those who find her work too predictable, but that is one of the things I like about her work; you know what you're going to get. So what are you getting, a bunch of British snobs in silly costumes at a ball? You've heard of comfort foods? Well I like comfort movies ( that doesn't mean I don't like comfort food, though ! ) I didn't know snobbery was a comfort to you. I thought you were more relaxed than that. I understand some of the other gals around here being snippy and prissy, but not you. -

im not a feeme fatale! i wouldnt kill anyone.....i wouldnt know how. heehee! Oh, no? What about this: we need someone to drown in the chocolate! You only want the gloves so that you don't get chocolate on your princessy hands. sweet april didnt come from finishing school! I don't know where your pretend doll went to school, but I know the Goddess was head of her class at Finishing School. Is that what you have learned from your trashy Jane Austen books and films? Us guys are to bow down to you and the priss? oh yes didnt you know? heehee! if you are to go with me and april to the ball, you should learn these rules! heehee! -

did i say you had to wear doily things with high stockings? on second thought....april that might be a great way of humiliating the dutchman! heehee! I'd run to the roof with John Doe. i am getting blakc opera gloves to go with them. i have always wanted opera gloves! heehee! just like greer! Black gloves! All right! Black gloves are a must for a femme fatale. You don't want to leave fingerpints after you kill your man. okay mozart wont work.......i call for making him watch Pride and Prejudice! maybe a little mozart, some strauss, a little bach, a bit of mischa with helen mirren here and there. heehee! Why don't you sing me some Celine Dion while you're at it? I'm rolling my eyes. KISS MY GRITS! heehee! that line gets me every time! What's wrong with a plunging v-neck? Nothing, that's what the idea of even asking that question! a femme fatale? who do you think i am gloria grahame? heehee! a plunging y-neck is a little too reveling for me. it isnt quite my cuppa tea silly. Ohh, that's right, you're not graduating from Finishing School like someone else. And does your Jane Austen crown read "Prissy Princess"? okay the crown would be overdoing it a little. heehee! i dont need a tiara until i go to the ball with you. heehee! then you will have to bow to me and watch all my prissy films. heehee! Is that what you have learned from your trashy Jane Austen books and films? Us guys are to bow down to you and the priss? My strapless dress would be ruby red to match my Coop lipstick. okay that was so funny! i cant stop laughing. hey i dont think you would look half bad in that actually. You better stay away from me at the ball. I wouldn't want to upstage you. -

Good evening, Cinderella -- hey i think all men look handsome in a tuxedo. i think you should try one on...i bet my imaginary friend would think you are handsome in it too....and a little tea never hurts anyone, it better not by the amount that sweet april and i drink. heehee! A tux is one thing, but the frilly doily things with the high stockings is another. would you please enlighten me on why exactly would pride and prejudice be haunting you? i could understand norman bates haunting me, by stabbing me in the shower, but what would elizabeth bennett do to you, tie you to a chair and make you listen to mozart all day? gee, that actually sounds like a plan! mozart is so much better for you instead of rap, silly goose. The thought of me at some English ball is straight torture. A day of Mozart? I might be able to survive that. Might. Just don't make me watch prissy films. heehee! thats funny. i wouldnt ever climb rocks in this gown! i wear my workout clothes to do that silly. i think i would freeze in this gown while skiing too. what do you mean by sighing at me like that? thats my job! heehee! I'm rolling my eyes. its black by the way. i looooove the style of it, b/c it was soooooo 30s, but they didnt have it in any other color. there was a blue dress that i would rather have gotten, but the front was a v-neck and a little too low. heehee! Black? What are you, a femme fatale? What's wrong with a plunging v-neck? Nothing, that's what. the sleeves are a sash with silver beads stretching across my shoulders and chest and hanging down in the back. its so pretty, just like something loretta young would have worn in The Unguarded Hour or something from one of her movies with ty power. im a happy little trooper. heehee! And does your Jane Austen crown read "Prissy Princess"? Prissy! that makes me giggle! my other grandma used to call me little miss prissy all the time....it still slips up every once in a while. heehee! If the slipper fits... Bonjour, Evil Stepsister -- (Feel free to join in this conversation, FrankGrimes, and get in touch with your inner Priss. ) My strapless dress would be ruby red to match my Coop lipstick. How will you wear your hair? Down and wavy or up and elegant? I vote for Sweet T to wear her hair down and wavy! Veronica Lake! -
A good dee do a dee do die day to you, Whistlin' Gypsy -- I don't know where you come up with all these brillilant photos. Like J-Girl, I'm a Veidt fan, so I really enjoyed your recent pictorial. What's up, Doctor J -- Loved your Connie pics. I also liked the Anna Mae Wong and Barrymore photos.

I'm guessing you see Grace everywhere. I try. I also guess you haven't seen the promo running on TCM for the DVD release for The Major And The Minor either. You guess right. My attention span has been dreadful of late. I have been taping TCM more so than watching it. "Well, let's not go overboard. Kyle is sort of honorable." I think I was just thrown overboard. That was quick. Honor dies fast. That's why my deaths are painfully slow.

Kyle In Hollywood's CENSORED Poster Gallery
FrankGrimes replied to hlywdkjk's topic in Remembering Kyle in Hollywood
Out of the Past! And the hits keep on coming! I'm officially sloshed, Kyle, so you can slip the Coop and Ford posters in now and I'll actually think they are good. -
Wow! That was fantastic, Ang! You keep getting better and better with your slideshows and you're already at the head of the class. Love your choice of song, too. Perfect. I must say, Missy is much, much better to watch than that tall Montanan fella. And I can't wait to watch your Grace Kelly slideshow. That should be lovely.
-
Ciao, SoKyle -- "I'm actually very giddy right now. I may do something really foolish." - FrankGrimes If that means you're calling airlines about coming to LA for the April 18th "premiere", just be sure NOT to book on American Airlines. If this week is any indication, you likely won't get here 'til Mother's Day. I'm foolish enough to fly American but not giddy enough to fly to LA. You probably shouldn't know the others just from the images posted - but I would hope you would know WHO the "blonde girl" in '02' is. I'm guessing it's Grace, but I really don't know by the poster. Is that a halo you're trying to put over you're head? 'Cause from here it looks more like a noose. It serves both purposes. Howdy, Coop's Clarita -- You didn't throw a pot of hot coffee at wonderful Gloria did you? Perish the thought! I could never harm that sweet angel's halo. I tossed it in Coop's face. This is partly why he has several girls here out to get him. Yes, Coop is the kind of guy who needs girls to fight his battles for him. Kyle is honorable? Actually, I have to agree with you on that one. He's also very courageous. It takes guts to post Grace Kelly photos on the "Gary Cooper" thread. Well guts or lack of brains: same difference ? ha! You're right about that. Hiya, Lynn -- I'm thinking you may be a suspect, Lynn, dear. I have not watched two of your film recommendations yet and I now have about 20 Ford films to watch yet they remain unwatched, including She Wore a Yellow Ribbon. Perish the thought! I would not torture you so because I want to keep you around until you finally see the films so that we can discuss them at length. To have you driven mad before that happens, what is the point? I figured you had finally hit the breaking point and decided to off me. I prefer you in your critical persona ready to discuss the films and what they mean to you and what they say to you. That is where the fun lies for me. How about you? I'm very critical of some people around here and it's quite fun. Ohh, you mean film. Well, I am a very analytical person, so I do enjoy film analysis. I just need to be pushed, shoved, kicked, and dragged into such conversations sometimes. What I don't enjoy is silliness. I'm too serious for such behavior. Everything I say should be taken seriously. I did spend a lot of time analyzing The Searchers. Did I gain any brownie points? So what's next? And yes, Kyle is very honorable. Probably the most honorable poster we have here next to Mongo. Well, let's not go overboard. Kyle is sort of honorable. We should all strife to be as honorable as them. Yes, we should all strife to torture kind, loving, sweetly-innocent board members. But, I fear, our vanities and our demons get the best of the majority of us. Speak for yourself! My demons vainly attack me. I'm in constant control of my very serious self. Cripes! Kyle! You do realize that you are sending poor Frankie into shock, don't you? So many films, so far away? Whatever will he do? Hop a plane and come out to see the films? We can cross that one off. I'm far too boring for such a thing. Manage to spend some dining time with us Southern Californians who can show him some Noir sights. A Chandler tour, perhaps? And a bullet in the back for good measure. Decide that film noir is his life's ambition but an unattainable goal and spiral down into a vortex or booze, dames and unhappiness? I'm already there... figuratively. Fall prey to some Femme Fatale's idea of putting him back on top? More like, "fall prey to some femme fatale's idea of poisoning him." I'm such a stubborn billygoat that I actually swallow the poison even though I'm told it's poison. So many choices...... So many deaths. Which one will Frankie choose? The most painful. How many lives do cats have again?
-
You're a lucky dog for seeing The Blue Dahlia on the big screen, ChiO. You are peeping some interesting films of late. Of the Ladd-Lake films, I have only seen This Gun for Hire. I'm very interested to see if any can top that one, because I really like that film. Which film do you like more? By the way, I really appreciate you sharing the words of guest speakers. It's very enlightening. Thanks.

I can believe it. It takes quite a bit of patience to post that many caps in a row. I'm actually very impressed you did such a thing. I didn't think you had that kind of patience in ya. You proved me wrong... again. -

yes you are! you need miss jane austen to spruce you up a bit. maybe elizabeth bennett could whipe you into shape. i know if they cant, me and april could certainly do such a deed! You and your imaginary friend would have me sipping tea at some snobby ball while wearing a silly outfit. Real characters are Max Cady and Norman Bates. Don't you just love them? they may be to you, but they scare me to death. if i had watched those movies last night, i would have never gotten to sleep. the only reason i think of those guys as real, is b/c after i see them in the movie, they are still in my mind as psychotic as they are, haunting me! That's exactly how I feel about Pride and Prejudice. I don't want to be haunted by such psychotic trash. i actually just bought a floor length dress. it looks exactly like the evening dress style katherine hepburn and loretta young wore in the '30s. i look so classy in it and now i finally have bought a formal dress to wear to my first ball......actually that would be in my dreams heehee, its only for my graduation that was suppose to be last year. heehee! This is what those trashy Austen novels do to girls like you. You're probably going to bowl in your gown and go skiing in your gown and climb rocks in your gown. Sigh. What color is it? wehn im with you, not only do i get migranes, but i also laugh so hard that i start crying. heehee! I better increase my insult dosage for you. jane austen was a perfect role model thank you very much! Prissy!
