  1. All this because I said I like Vanity Fair. What an hysteric it is. All this because you chose "Vanity Fair" OVER "Gone with the Wind." You've made your dirty little bed, now you must lie in it.
  2. Excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse ME! I NEVER said and never would say that I thought I was an intelligent woman. I'm mighty flattered if YOU think so, but I certainly lay no claim to any such thing. Jackie is the one who thinks you are intelligent for liking Vanity Fair. If abandoning heart and home is intelligent then you are the most intelligent WOMAN in the world. I'm heartbroken. I don't know if I'll ever get over this. I need to go see Belle. She's a REAL woman with a heart, not a phony British society girl with a "brain." Now who wrote this?: Not that I like rubbing it in....BUT I DO!!! Gone with the Wind---the novel by Margaret Mitchell---was just named in a poll as the favorite book after The Bible by Americans: What are you rubbing in? You're not one of the Americans who thinks "Gone with the Wind" is the second best book. Your words above led me to believe you were one, but alas, you ain't. The only thing you rubbed in was Rhett's nose in the muck. Even though I knew you were wrongheaded for liking "Gone with the Wind," I still respected your Southern belle roots. I found it to be rather charming. What a fool I was to believe in such a princessy story. It pains me to know, there's not going to be a tomorrow. I simply said Vanity Fair was my favorite novel and my goodness, you kick up such a fuss! Calling me names, a traitor to my beloved Tara and to Rhett and the whole universe practically. Simply?! You just "simply" turn your back on Rhett and Tara? That makes it even worse. I never thought your shoulders could get any more icy than they already are, but here we are. You are cold. Theresa! Where are you??? You know what YOU did to her. You killed her. Her sweet little heart could not take the news of you being a "Gone with the Wind" fraud. I tried to lessen the pain for her by speaking of her favorite Smithy in such loving terms, but even my strong, loving effort couldn't save Sweet T. I tried, but the damage you caused was done. Her sweet little ticker stopped pitter-pattering. It just couldn't take the pain any longer. I think you must have done something to her because she asked you mighty politely to please watch Pride and Prejudice. But I guess that insulted your manhood somehow. Tsk tsk and quadruple shame. I have been nothing but sweet to Sweet T. I spend a lot of time discussing her favorite films like Random Harvest and The Valley of Decision. I just wish she wouldn't like such trashy films. I'm not into gory serial killer films or amoral homewrecker films. I've got very high standards. That's why I find your heartless actions to abandon Rhett, Bonnie Blue, and Tara for prim and proper to be disGRACEful. The world knows no hurt as I feel right now. I'm afraid to say, the once lovely Goddess has chosen to be no more. Well, you just go to your precious little England. Just go! Go! Go now! Go! You Dutch Yankees are such a prissy, hysterical bunch. Rhett Butler would never make a fuss like you do. But then, he was a Southerner and thinks like I do. Poor, sweet, little Bonnie couldn't take the news that her Goddess didn't love her.
  3. Hiya, Jackie -- Vanity Fair is actually the story of a less than reputable woman's climb to the heights of society , and is a satire of the "prissy" genre that you think you are being subjected to. The main character is a sort of Gloria Grahame type (I can't believe I'm writing this). P&P is also a satire. Perhaps your view will change if you know that... but I doubt it. You have such great faith in me. A less-than-reputable woman? Now I understand why a certain someone lists it as their second favorite book. So Pride and Prejudice is not a dreamland story for girly-girls? It lacks priss? And did you say Gloria Grahame plays "Elizabeth Bennet"? Under the Tuscan Sun would probably be more pleasurable for you than for any intelligent woman. It is masquerading as a women's picture, with the heroine going off "on her own" after a bitter divorce. But the resulting movie has a rather misogynistic slant. I don't think the film-makers meant it to be that way, but somehow it comes out ....well, yucky. The main character is a weak mess, because of her divorce from her really unworthy husband. She should find happiness and a sense of self in learning to fix up her house in Italy. Instead, the movie is about how she learns that she is Diane Lane- and looks smashing in a white dress. If you are Diane Lane, you can find love... and that is the most important thing to us little girls, isn't it? OK. I am stepping down off my irritable soapbox. That was good, Jackie! But I'm not an intelligent woman. Is there such a thing, by the way? I'm an unthinking, unfeeling man who only cares about one thing. Howdy, Intelligent Woman Who Abandoned Her Simple Home (for shame) -- Let's get one thing straight, Pilgrim---I never, ever suggested you should read/watch or otherwise have anything to do with Vanity Fair. For your information, VF is Scarlett's favorite novel, the only one she ever reads SO THERE. Why on earth do you think she went down into the library in the first place???? So how is it that I ended up reading about Vanity Fair then? It seems as if I was sent there by an "intelligent" woman who has lost her way home. A WOMAN who is gone with the wind. Scarlett thought the library was where the men held their "political meetings." Well, La-di-da! I daresay all you Yankees always sadly misconstrue us poor, simple country girls from down South.
  4. Fantastic photos and comments, Miss G! I'm glad to see your noir gallery percolatin' with some Bogie & Bacall.
  5. And did you notice the reference to Russell Square? What's an English-hater like FrankGrimes doing even knowing what a Russell Square is or where. That's because some silly girl attempted to blind me with such trash. I nearly passed out. Why would a Southern belle abandon Tara for Russell Square? There is no bigger travesty than such. Even my eyes are crying deep in the broken heart of Texas. I suspect, Mr Grimes, you protest too much. I dare say not.
  6. Hey, Molo -- You said you were gonna bump the "Double G" thread, and you delivered. I really enjoyed your Merton of the Movies review. I have low expectations for the film since it's not my kinda of flick, but you have helped increase my want to see it because of Gloria. I loved this line by you: Kind of like if Violet Bick had left Bedford Falls, gone to Hollywood and maybe gotten a bit silly. Excellent! It sounds awfully familiar to me, too. What's shakin', Lively Gal -- As for "ODDS AGAINST TOMORROW" what are the odds that I will miss that? Slim-to-none. Gloria's not in the film that much, but she makes a helluva an impression. It's one of my very favorite of hers.
  7. Hi, Trashy Girl -- Well thanks a lot for that little photo montage-I saw it while I was at work and I almost peed myself. And just as I was building some serious street cred, too. That got a laugh out of me but I remain dry. Keep it up, and that may change. Howdy, Bronx Blossom -- Hello, Droog. Look closely at the UNDER THE TUSCAN SUN clip.....closely.....closely.....you feel yourself getting calm and relaxed....all male aggression and violence has left your body.... (this is the film, not P&P or GWTW or CD with Sam the Pickle Man,, that will turn you (as Dolly Parton says so eloquently in NINE TO FIVE) from a rooster to a hen with remarkable alacrity) I still cannot envision Under the Tuscan Sun being more of a "neutering" film than Pride and Prejudice. Do I at least see some female skin in Under the Tuscan Sun. Maybe a bathing suit, perhaps? I bet I see nothing but gowns in Pride and Prejudice. Blah! Hey Frank -- "Gooble-gobble, gooble-gobble, one of us, one of us!" I really thought Gone with the Wind was the worst, but all this Vanity Fair and Pride and Prejudice stuff has me thinking differently now. I'm actually starting to believe Gone with the Wind may be halfway decent. Ciao, Miss Pomp and Priss -- yeah i cant see sweet april setting anyone on fire You can say that again. I don't think I like the sound of that. Well then don't think it, Icy G. I am highly insulted, Suh, by yoar lyin' Yankee backtalk. Mistah Buck Cantrell will meet you and yoar Second at fuhst light 'neath tha Duelin' Oaks. Gentlemen's weapons, of course. Do I have to post No Country for Old Men caps now? Must I? You eliminated the TRUTH! Who's a "traditional gentleman"! You are sir are no gentleman. No, I'm not a gentleman. I'm a "traditional" gentleman. Big difference. "Traditional gentleman" enjoy psychos, gallons of blood, and decapitations. We are quite traditional. Ha haaaa! I think between me, Pyewacket, Miss Texas Tea and Bronxie, ONE of our spells just has to have the right effect. What's the "right effect"? Is it to neuter me? Enjoying yourself, Mr. Burns? Not yet. I am NOT a Tara Hater. You're a Tara deserter. You left the plantation. And for what, Russell Square? Are you kidding me? Thankfully, I'll save Tara from burning down with all my tears. O' where has Miss Goddess gone? She has taken leave of us and I fear she shall never return home. The sun has set. There'll never be a tomorrow. And you're not even supposed to be here. Oh oh, don't tell me Buck Cantrell is...is....NOoooooooooooooooo!!! And I thought he was such a good shot.
  8. I may peep a little later on this afternoon, Tara Hater.
  9. Yes, that's a very, very, very BIG deal! Thank you for posting this, Kyle! Secret Beyond the Door is THE Lang film that I wish to see most. I'm thrilled beyond belief to learn it has been restored. This gives me great hope that a DVD may soon be in the future. I hope there is a decent turnout for the restorative premiere. I'm actually very giddy right now. I may do something really foolish. Thanks again for the good word, SoKyle. I must reply to some of the suspects on this thread later on tonight. Some need to be reprimanded. You, my friend, ain't one of them. On second thought, did you say something about me using my extra-shiny halo as a noose?
  10. FG -- were you renumerating my list because YOU are the adorable scuttling puppy-dogish pseudo-crustacean thingie that followed me down Glades Road?? You meet all the criteria, except I don't know if you have grasshopper hind legs. I'd follow you down Glades Road, Bronxie. But you'd quickly have me arrested and sent to some British society prison where they neuter guys with Pride and Prejudice viewings. I heard the "A Clockwork Orange" ball does serious damage.
  11. Hola, Whistlin' Gypsy -- FrankieG: Have you seen either of these films, Geheimnisse iener Seele (1926) or Jugendrausch (1927)? Geheimnisse iener Seele is known in English as Secrets of a Soul and was directed by G. W. Pabst. The film featured Werner Krauss as the husband and Ruth Weyher as his wife. Jugendrausch is known in English as Nemesis or Eva and the Grasshopper and was directed by Georg Asagaroff with stop-action animation by Ladislas Starevitch. The film featured Camilla Horn as Eva and Gustav Fr?lich as Armand. No, but I wish that I had after seeing those mesmerizing photos! Jeff just recently asked me if I had seen Secrets of a Soul. It really does sound like my kind of film, and I do like Pabst. The "Mother Earth" picture from the film is dazzling! That shot alone has piqued my interest in the film. I had never heard of Eva and the Grasshopper, and I'm glad you have brought the film to my attention. It looks to be enchanting. I'll post some caps from The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari coming up. I won't spoil the film, though. Hey, J-Girl -- Scotty, you have posted some silent film noir. Thanks for all the great caps of interesting films I haven't seen. Thanks, Cephy. But I hope you continue to post more photos here. Don't let me overrun your thread.
  12. TCM is airing a Robert Ryan double-feature tomorrow morning: Gangway for Tomorrow 6:00 AM EST Day of the Outlaw 7:15 AM EST
  13. Hey the same invitation holds for you as well! Thanks, Jeff! I'm afraid I would be in over my head in such an environment. I must say that I'm slowly learning more and more about silent film peformers thanks to you, Whistlin' G, and others in this forum. The problem with me is that I lack focus. I tend to jump all over the place in terms of film. My learning curve is steep and slow. But I will most certainly keep reading what y'all write.
  14. Thanks for posting the pics of Janet Gaynor, Whistlin' G. She has a very soft look. Strangely, I actually like her even more with the wig in Sunrise. I don't know what that says about me. Don't answer that. If I send a private message and I do not have a copy in my Sent Folder, does this mean the person receiving my message has blocked me? I always check the Save Copy option, so I should have a copy. Thanks for your help. Yes, it means someone is blocking you. What did you do to that person? Just kidding. I don't know how PM's work with the "ignore" function but I'm guessing you just lost your sent message. This has happened to me on a number of occasions, including yesterday. The person you sent the message to more than likely has received it. Thanks again for all your wonderful posts. I'm going to reread your brilliant post on Max Linder in the "foreign-language film" forum again later tonight. I hope others check it out. You went above and beyond with that one. You're a beautiful writer.
  15. he's here april! wait for it....wait for it......he just needs to take a couple more steps. It's time to send you away to the "dollhouse." They will help you get rid of your imaginary doll there. you just insulted my favorite movie! i would never use the fast-forward button on Random Harvest.i havent seen the beginning huh? i have it memorized! and nowhere do i see smithy randomly harvesting victims.....he isnt jack the ripper! paula was his "motherly help", you said so yourself, but i still dont think of it that way. goodness!
  16. Ciao, Miss Traitoress -- Rhett and I set it on fire with our love. Then he rebuilt if for me with his ill-gotten gains. What a man! You're lying once again! Such falsehoods. Like many a night, you turned Rhett away because of your love for some British Sir Snob. The scorched cat is out of the bag -- all of your Gone with the Wind love has been a farce from the beginning. You turned your back on Rhett and your Tara for something far more trashy. You should be ASHAMED! You should change your screen name because the once lovely Miss Goddess is no longer. I weep. I don't know but that I still think he could be Bronxie's "mystery" creature... Let's check the list: 1. He was "friendly" and docile. I'm definitely very "friendly" and docile. I'd add sweet, kind, and loving, too. 2. He seemed responsive and followed me like a puppy. I do like Bronxie. 3. He had no spidery legs that were spread out. I don't have spidery legs that spread out, but I believe someone else on this board does. 4. I could feel him "looking" at me. I do like to look. It's much more fun to stand and watch versus start something. 5. He had a shell that didn't cover him completely. I'm very shy but I like to peek. 6. He seemed crustacean in appearance, but not like a traditional crab. I'm caucasian in appearance, but I'm a traditional gentleman. Well, that eliminates me. If he's the abominable snowman (he's certainly the first part) then all we have to do is turn up the heat and that will take care of him! You better not stand too close to that fire, Manhattan Blizzard. Those icy shoulders of yours may start to drip. We can't have that now, can we?
  17. Good Evening, ButtersneakGRACE -- yeah i cant see sweet april setting anyone on fire You can say that again. ....that would be like seeing audrey hepburn not eating anything when getting nervous in Charade. heehee! Or like a silly girl not eating fattening food until they go on vacation. Smithy naturally caused Paula to stop breathing when he strangled her and then buried her in the courtyard. i personally cant see any of that happening in Random Harvest. honestly. maybe in Shadow of a Doubt. heehee! You must have fast-forwarded through half of Random Harvest. The meaning behind the title is that Smithy randomly harvests victims. Paula has to go undercover as a secretary to try and catch Smithy, but will she become his next victim? It's rather compelling. You really need to watch the film without using the FF button. Like a Texas girl has any chance of showing no emotion at all. Now I've heard it all. Such stubbornness. phew you are really having fun murdering poor sweet april and me tonight arent you? I'm not a Smithy. I'm not a murderer. You can marry your serial killer dreamboat, if you like. I was merely trying to warn you about his murderous "love." mamma mia! heehee! smithy and mr darcy are the sweetest kindest dreamboats......and MELODY! i cant forget about my melody jones. do you truely think smithy could be capable of even handling a knife? he would probably get so confused, he would end up dropping it on the floor. poor baby! I think he'd "drop it" in a guy's back.
  18. Hey, Minya -- Cheeky. Cheeky and trashy. Hola, ButtersweetGRACE -- I wish I was hallucinating that the Gone with the Wind girl did not abandon Tara, but it's true. I shall never view her the same. I'm thoroughly disappointed and depressed. yeah well, you are still halucinating! she didnt abandon tara, she just loves rhett more than tara! so there! She doesn't love either! She's at some vanity fair doing some wicked shopping for trashy British society guys. I've lost all hope and faith in her. I always thought she was a cute Southern belle with wrongheaded opinions but now I know the truth. She set Tara on fire. I'm not picking on anyone. I'd never do such a thing. I'm always very serious. yeah right! you are the biggest softy in the world......who likes to trample on girls' dreams of one day marrying their true loves. odd combo! You can marry your serial killer dreamboat, if you like. I was merely trying to warn you about his murderous "love." Smithy didn't do a thing to Larry, but Smithy murdered Rebecca, Bunny Lake, and Paula. You've got a badge, arrest him! im not going to arrest smithy for being a swetheart and loving paula until the day they both die, which will happen of natural causes by the way. heehee! how indecorous of you to keep them apart from each other! im utterly ashamed of you. heehee! Smithy naturally caused Paula to stop breathing when he strangled her and then buried her in the courtyard. Which one of you is Grace and which is Maddy? I'm sure Sweet T would LOVE to be Grace. oh yeah....actually that would be easy, i just wouldnt have to show emotion at all. heehee! Like a Texas girl has any chance of showing no emotion at all. Now I've heard it all. Such stubbornness.
  19. Anything to please you Grimey. I know better than that. You're trying to get me to let my guard down and then you'll shoot me dead, Annie. Not to throw Mr. Darcy under a bus or anything, but I would be just as happy with a Sheik or a Sea Hawk-especially if they were a little sweaty. There are many lines to be said here and I shall not say a one.
  20. I'm working on a fresh batch now! It will make him think you and I are Madeleine Carroll and Grace Kelly so he'll be nice to us. Which one of you is Grace and which is Maddy? I'm sure Sweet T would LOVE to be Grace.
  21. and you need to stop halucinating things. I wish I was hallucinating that the Gone with the Wind girl did not abandon Tara, but it's true. I shall never view her the same. I'm thoroughly disappointed and depressed. april we need to make another batch of that good stuff we used on frankie, it appears to be working on him, the only trouble is that we now need to make a spell for him not to pick on us....like that will ever happen. I'm not picking on anyone. I'd never do such a thing. I'm always very serious. larry is not treacherous! for goodness sake! smithy wouldnt even touch larry. in fact i think they would be good friends. heehee! as for bunny lake..... Smithy didn't do a thing to Larry, but Smithy murdered Rebecca, Bunny Lake, and Paula. You've got a badge, arrest him!
  22. Hi, Minya -- So I'm guessing this is the wrong time to mention that Mr. Darcy is one of my dream men? Not if you tell me Annie Laurie Starr just shot him at the ball. Ciao, Miss Traitor -- All this bad mouthing of Englishmen...I'm starting to think you are Anglophobic Mr Grimes... It just depends on who's greeting me...
  23. Hi, Miss Lady of the Night -- No you didn't! You were out with that Belle! I was not! I was at a political meeting. Ask anyone. Howdy, SWEET T -- okay honey boy, what is going on? SWEET april has just S. O. S. ed me because you are being so mean! heehee! You really need to stop playing with your imaginary doll "April." such treachery flows from the mouth of a person whom picks on rhett butler and mr paul! how cruel!. wow im pretty good at larry oiliver talk. Ask Treacherous Larry if he knows where Rebecca is. Her and Bunny Lake seem to have gone missing. I'm thinking Smithy murdered them both.
  24. I'm so sorry! But you were so nasty about it! And then when you were sick, it was all my fault... I hoped against hope that you'd call for me, but you didn't. Instead, you called out for Sir Ashley Pomp and BS. I hope you two enjoy a wonderful life together. You're meant for each other. I'm in mourning because I'd heard the delightful news you'd been HANGED. Or, at least.... That'll be the day.
  25. lol! The expression on his face makes me think his next move was to toss it out the window. That's the same expression and thought I have whenever I'm chatting with you. Ha haaa!! Me love ASHLEY WILKES??? I never really loved him! You certainly gave a good imitation of it, up till this morning. No, Scarlett, I tried everything. If you'd only met me half way, even when I came back from the snooty British society crap that you women somehow find romantic. I see Scarlett is wearing her bridal gown in that picture.
