Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh, dripping-wet Grace! Super sigh me. You can post whatever posters
you want on your thread, Kyle. I won't say a peep. You are in my good GRACEs.
And if your forehead no longer says "Welcome", I hope it doesn't read
"Wipe Your Feet" in it's place.
More like "Foolish Sucker." It's the role I was born to play. I do it so well.

Hi, J-Girl! -- I just wanted to thank you for the Conrad Veidt pics and words.
I really enjoyed reading what you had to say about one of your favorites. Very nicely done!
Hey, Jackie F! -- The Man Who Laughs is one of my very favorite films. It's a
beautiful love story in the guise of a horror pic. I think you'll like it.

Bonjour, Miss G(race)! -- I'm not Konway, but I want to thank you for those
spectacular photos for Rear Window. I greatly appreciate it.

-
Hello there, Kylefornia! -- All I can say is "wow!" Oh, my GOODness
GRACEous! This thread NEVER looked any better than it did tonight. What
a magnificent display of blonde beauty! Nobody looks better wet than Grace.
Swoon.
Thanks for having the "Dyngus" to post Grace Kelly photos on this thread. It really
hit the spot! I'm sure ALL the Coop gals would agree with that.
I don't think the "gals" are going to come after you with pussywillows after throwing
down that gauntlet.
Was I too harsh? I've been thinking about ordering around every lady on the board.
I've heard women LOVE aggressive men who know what they want and who won't
stop until they get what they want. I really don't see a downside to my plan.
This is a yearly debate among Dyngus Day revelers. The tradition holds true that
on Easter Monday boys would sprinkle the girls with water and tap them with
pussywillows. On Easter Tuesday, the women would return the favorite. At modern
Dyngus Day parties it is common practice that both men and women trade water
and pussywillow equally.
I better watch who I sprinkle and tap.

It was custom to throw water and hit the girls on their legs with twigs or pussywillows.
Cologne was used instead of water by the more gallant lads.
Strictly water with me.
The ladies would reciprocate by throwing dishes & crockery and Tuesday was their
day of revenge, imitating the same tactics.
Ahhh, now this I'm very familiar with on this board. VERY familiar. Let me tell ya,
skillets ain't a picnic.
Glad to know the word "Welcome" has been scrubbed off your forehead though.
I don't know. I'm still rather brainwashed. Do you know I have spent my time on the
board tonight talking Ford and Coop? Can it get any more pathetic than that? I need
to git out while the gittin's good.

Hi, FXReyMan -- Nice to see you back on the trail, pardner!
Both Laurie and her mother want to watch Charlie and Marty fight!
I actually think it's all about Marty fighting for Laurie. It's nothing personal against
Charlie, it's just that Laurie has been "goin' steady" with Marty since they were
three years old. Laurie's Ma knows just how much Laurie truly loves Marty and
she knows the significance of Marty fighting for her. This is the moment Laurie
has been waiting for and it has finally arrived. That's why both are thrilled to
death.

In the following cap, you will see why Laurie's Ma is excited about the fight. She's
definitely pulling for Marty. She wants Marty to be with her daughter.

Howdy, Coopsy's Clarita -- "Even though they had only been married a couple hours, Will knew it was a mistake. Divorces take too long so he took matters into his own hands. Unfortunately, Amy got out of the way in time and Will was stuck with her."
Every man should be so unfortunate. Poor, sweet Grace did nothing wrong yet Coop still chooses to put her beautiful hide in harm's way. How could any man do such a horrible thing?

Howdy, Mrs. Ramirez -- Frank (not Miller), are you going to stand up and defend your lamb chop's honor? The wolves are closing in on her....
That's one of the sweetest photos of my little lambchop. Thank you!
Unlike Will, I'll defend her honor.

Howdy, MISS Demanding

Yes! That makes perfect sense!
You must have meant to say that to Lynn or Chris.
And to give the "devil" (nee, FrankGrimes) his due, I agree that there is something in the nature of how a man feels about seeing his "daughter" no longer as an innocent, but as a grown woman of experience. It makes sense that Ethan would (temporarily) be enraged by all that.
That's how I see it.

Howdy, Lynn, Dear! -- Given how good Wayne is in this film I don't think it wasn't because he wasn't up to it. Look how subtle and understated he is with Martha at the beginning, the look on his face when he returns to Marty and Brad without his "Johnny Reb" coat and tells Brad "do I have to draw you a picture? As long as you live don't ever ask me about it again" or the look of pure malevolence that comes over his face when he and Marty visit the fort looking for Debbie.
I'm pretty sure Ford had great confidence in Wayne as an actor or he wouldn't have made so many films with him. I haven't seen enough of the Ford-Wayne films to speak of how Ford handled Wayne, but he gave Wayne some poignant, emotional close-ups in Rio Grande. To me, that shows just how much Ford trusted Wayne as an actor. Rio Grande is the film where I came away impressed with Wayne as an actor.
So what does this mean, Lynn?:

-
I'm of the opinion that Ethan wasn't going to hurt her at the end. His mind was made up. If Ethan had made up his mind on the spot THEN we would need to see his facial expressions. But I don't believe this to be case. Debbie and us, the audience, are the ones who are in the dark.
-
I see the Coop Beauty Parlor was in full force. Mary would be proud.
Hi, Jackie F! -- I figured you would show up with a photo. You're quite good at that. I'll be getting in touch with you on another thread later on.

However, I do remember my mother (during the 1960's) vacuuming in a dress and heels.....
Ooohhhh, I like that!
Hey, ButterscotchGLORIA -- hey frankie furter(im just a girl who cant say no!) heehee!
The two "A" girls are now in big, big trouble with me, Gardenia Girl. This is not Sweet T talk.
and then i have nightmares about a certain someone who meets me and decides he doesnt like me for whatever reason!
Nightmares indeed. That certain someone must be very smart if they don't like you for whatever reason.
i dont think i can handle his sybil right now! heehee! this is tragic.
You're not going to start crying again, are you?

Okay, SWEET T, what are the five Coop films, in order, that you make you cry the most. I have only cried once during a Coop film and it was High Noon. I just couldn't believe Coop would leave his sweet, little lambchop Grace by herself. That's not what a real man would do. He impassively let her be. How gallant.
-
Those are such beautiful screencaps---but they're so small! I can hardly
see them.
They don't have to be gigantic but you used to post medium sizedones that were perfect.
Well that's very all girl of you to say. I posted the size (500x281) that I always
post in an effort not to blow out this thread since it features conversation.
Rule #1: Man cannot win.
Rule #2: Accept the fact of Rule #1.

So which caps do you wish to be bigger? Let me guess, "all of 'em."
-
Howdy, MISS Okay Goddess -- I'd never have let Ethan wander off into
the winds like that. I think it makes the others bloody selfish if you ask me.
"OK, thanks for doing all the hard work and killing, you can go now." Honestly!
That's one of my favorite quotes of yours! It's right up there with, "go to the devil."
I finished watching The Searchers. One thing I noticed this time was that Ethan
calls out to Debbie by name as he's chasing her into the cave. And since he did that
and his voice did not sound angry or threatening I am now wondering if he had made
up his mind to take her back home before he lifted her into his arms.
I believe this to be true. I think Ford visually bookends Ethan and Debbie's connection.
This is the reason why I posted a cap from both scenes of Ethan lifting Debbie in the
air on the "Ford at Fox" thread.
If Debbie would have spit in Ethan's face like she figuratively did to Marty in their
previous meeting, it would have been interesting to see how Ethan would have
reacted then.
From a guy's point of view, I take the entire search for Debbie to show how little girls
grow up and they sometimes end up "wayward," but men should still love their little
girls no matter what. Debbie is a grown girl at the end of The Searchers, but
she's still the little girl Ethan loved in the beginning. Abandoning her would not be
the act of a real man.
Howdy, Lynn! -- But, even though he has redeemed a part of his soul in
returning Debbie to the Jorgensen's (and Marty to Laurie), he still cannot enter the
house. He is to remain, as he entered the picture, an outcast.
Since the film is called The Searchers, I believe Ethan's personal search
continues. He merely helped his "kin" on this search. Ethan may spend the rest
of his days "searching" for what he's lost and what he's yet to find. He's a dark
wanderer, although he's not dark inside.
I haven't rewatched The Searchers yet, Lynn, but I will say that I think there
could be something to what you surmise. There's definitely an undercurrent present.

Go to the devil...please!
Tchaikovsky's Francesca da Rimini?

-
You better provide the link for TCM's schedule for May since that's when your Frankie is "Star of the Month," Silly Goose. And you call yourself a fan. Tsk, tsk, shame and double shame.

-
That's MISS Floozy to you.
Gulp.

Good Morn, Kind and Sweet "A" Girl -- The Weenie King huh? That nearly made me laugh out loud!! Of course, that could be taken either way, just make sure you mean it as an insult .
After all the loving words I have spoke of you, each and every day on this board, you insist that I be insulted. I'm deeply hurt.
Hi, Miss Compliments -- He knows I don't mean anything complimentary about it.
Non? I've always thought you were being complimentary of me. This comes as a shock to me. It looks like it's going to be a long day of crying for me. If only Mrs. Cooper were around. She would comfort me.
Hey, Weenie King, why not post a picture of yourself so the ladies can see your beautiful face? (I would except I do not have the dvd of The Palm Beach Story).
Sorry. No can do. I'm sure by the time I get back on the board later in the day, there will be ten photos of the Weenie King and a million of Coop... from Unconquered.

-
I didn?t put Gary on the list b/c everybody knows he?s my main squeeze . I thought I would mix it up a little besides just listing all my same faves again.
It's about time!
:p
Now have I told you that I LOVE Grace Kelly? I haven't?
-
Good Morning, Super Sweet T -- boy youre wishy washy. heehee! first we are sneaky, meanies, floozy, indecorous girls, and now we are king and sweet. well which is it? heehee!
Overalls Coop must have called you those awful names in your dreams. I'd never do such a thing. I'm always full of love.
Good Morning, Kind and Sweet "A" Girl -- It's his multiple personalities emerging again, Theresa. Vlad, The Wolf Man, The Weenie King, they are all out in full force.
You must have me confused with another guy. I'm always kind and sincere, especially to you, Sni--ckerdoodle.

-
I don't recollect that conversation.

Favorite scenes! Favorite scenes? The whole movie is a favorite scene!! Seriously though, I've always responded most strongly to Rhett's bidding for her to dance at the Ball, Scarlett and Rhett's parting on the road to Tara and her "I'll never be hungry again" scene. I also love the "proposal" scene where he basically spends the whole time mocking her. It's no wonder she got mad at him. Each of these shows her character (good & bad) and the tenor of their romance, tragically and humorously.
I'm surprised you went with some of the big scenes. You usually pull a smaller scene out of the blue. How Green Was My Valley being a prime example of this.
The richness of the humor really elevates this film, in my opinion. "Epics" are not supposed to be so funny.
I highly doubt I'd like the film without Scarlett's childish behavior and Rhett's reactions to such behavior.
What are your favorite scenes?
All of them. I really like the people, too.
When I watch the film, I'll let you know. That doesn't work anymore?I'll let you know later on when I have more time. That's always a good answer to give a girl.
-
she is being smart and staying away from you. heehee!
Now why is staying away from me being smart? I would only speak to her in the most loving terms, just as I do you and the very sweet and kind "A" girls.

-
Now Frank, you forgot your favorite actor who wears makeup and had the most beautiful chest hair.
The thread clearly states "smile" not "frown."

Why didn't you list Coop? I know darn well you smile the instant you see him on the screen. Ohh, wait, you did mention "Cuddles." My mistake.
-
She wanted her image of him. Once she realized what he was really like, perhaps she would have resigned herself as many who marry do.
When I wrote the " 'M' word" on the board, you got all over me for being so cynical, so what's up with your cynicism, Cynny?
I'm gonna regret asking you this (
), but, what are your favorite scenes in Gone with the Wind? -
Ciao, Mrs. Veidt! -- With names like Karloff, Lugosi, Veidt, and Ritter on your list, you know I'm gonna love it. Biggest surprise for me? John Wayne. You? Really?
What's up, Hunter Hearst Helmsley -- Now how the heck did Judy Garland sneak on your list? Is that a misprint? I do love your list. It's loaded with many of my favorites. But the name you mentioned that made me smile was John Ritter. John is my favorite television actor of all time.
#3 Thelma Ritter

#2 Dan Duryea

#1 Gloria Grahame

Hi, Theodora! -- An age later... I guess I did wander away!
I'm one the worst offenders of wandering.

Well, the TCM staples were where I started when I first became "serious" about film. Trying to uncover all the essentials led me to IMDb, both the top 250 list and discussion boards, which got me on to some of the classics of world cinema. Not much really stuck until, quite at random, I picked John Cassavetes' Opening Night off the library shelf.
Fascinating. Call me sexist, but I'm really surprised to see a young girl like yourself taking this path. It's refreshing to me.
That started my first obsession with a director, and when I had exhausted his work and still longed for more I checked out his own favorites and influences: Antonioni, Malle, Renoir, Visconti et al...
Unreal.
So the longer I followed those threads the more I sought out niche communities outside IMDb, people who challenged me to dig deeper (and I love them for that) and people who turn up their noses at me all the time for still loving the American classics of the 30s/40s (which I resent awfully!).
You'll find a very receptive audience to 30s and 40s American films on this board. That's the primary focus for most TCM board members.
That pretty much brings us up to the present... but as varied and broad as my taste may seem I'm still terribly green, and there are huge swaths of cinema in all directions I've never sampled!
So what swaths are the greenest for you?
I'm glad to say almost all cinema interests me to some extent, and the well of directors/genres/movements to check out will never run dry.
Open-minded film viewers will always capture my attention. You are clearly this and you've definitely got my attention.
-
Hi, Topsey -- I really liked your list. I loved your inclusion of "Baby Doll." That brought a big smile to my face.
Hey, Girl with a Gorgeous Name -- ScottyWolf, once again thanks for the beautiful caps. It's my dear Cesare, whom I love to watch clinging against the walls with knife in hand heading towards the room of Jane. You've captured some of my favorite scenes, mil gracias!
De nada! I owe you quite a few Connie caps, Doctor J. In the meantime...

I love that crazed look in Neville Brand, thanks! He has to hit someone to feel better.
You're such a sweet girl, J.
So where do you think "Chester" needs to hit somebody? In the belly, perhaps?
