Really? I thought it would be a "lesser" list for you. I did know some were favorites of yours because that's why I watched them.

*You have a leg up on me, I have never seen Ace of Hearts. In fact, you are far surpassing me in terms of the sheer number and variety of films you have seen.*
Maybe lately, but I'm late to the party. I'm still playing catch-up. I've got a lot to see.
*I'll see if I can get your top and bottom five movies rated, and maybe I can spend some time listing how I like the films. There are some here I haven't seen, and several I haven't seen in a long time.*
I'm more interested in how you like the films, but anything you come up with will be great. -

It's hard to rank that many films. But if you want to guess my top five and bottom five, that would be all right with me. But I'd love to know what you've seen and how you liked them.

Well, it is definitely German Expressionism. That does give it a leg up.
*Clue me in on what Ace of Hearts is...I can only find a 1921 version and a 2008 version.*
It's the Lon Chaney silent from 1921. I've been trying to watch some Chaney and I wanted to watch the films in the TCM collection. -
I've watched many more films and I'd love to know how others rank and view these films. And if you care to guess how I liked them, go right ahead.

I usually feel sorry for Peter when he's a villain, despite his slime.

It doesn't have to be primary. Basil is Sherlock Holmes!

*He came for her and said they were getting married! Then she had to see him off at the train station...too late (in a scene that is repeated almost exactly in* *Summertime) and that's what cost her her job. You didn't watch it at all!*
But that's not how it starts, is it? She breaks curfew and talks back, doesn't she?

Doesn't she choose to leave the ballet to chase after Roy? She gets in trouble for this.

He played two great villains! He's also played a couple of shady guys.
*I didn't put Robert Ryan, either, since I prefer his "complex" characters.*
He's probably second for me. He knows how to make a villain human.
*He's NEVER "good". The closest I've seen was Gatsby and he was still a jerk.*

What's not to believe? She's a rebellious ballerina who seeks love. That's definitely Viv. I can see her slapping the guys before shacking up with them, though. That girl sounds familiar.

Now that sounds more like Viv! She does throw a little bit of a fit when they question the dedication of her informants.

*Myra is supposed to be the less impulsive, more mature one in Waterloo Bridge in contrast to Taylor's boyish enthusiasm. Do you believe her? Him? I think they do well, and do well with the transition. She becomes emotionally unhinged by the end and he turns to stone.*
He's believable because I usually think of Taylor as being lost.
Viv is too full of emotion to believe she's mature. She knows how to play serious, though. -

That's usually the case. Just thinking of Viv as a secret agent makes me laugh because she seems too darn emotional for such a position. But, then again, it's perfect, because you wouldn't expect her as the secret agent. Are you a secret agent, Snippy?

Thank you for doing that. I really like it when you guess me. It's fun.
*I've placed Streetcar second, but to the side - because I think you would either hate it, or admire it greatly. It's not the kind of movie one loves, I think, but one has to respect it. I suspect that you might have hated it.... because you are a chivalrous person, I think it would be harder for you to watch than most any other movie, seeing a sensitive person destroyed.*

And I feel this is a must-watch for you because it's loaded with some of your favorite character actors and they all shine. It's Marlene's film, but it's truly the character actors' film.

I agree. It's not an easy watch, especially after you've seen it once.
