  1. Well.......uhmmmmmm, Talkietime...that's a lot of....

I love it! You had a veritable factory going on there. You know how rare Todd screenings are, and you didn't let any grass grow under your DVRs. Loved the coordination and

then the re-organization. You've created your self quite a nice little library of the 'hot Toddy.'

Wonderful how you put it all together. You should be getting lots and lots of PMs.

    Enjoy!

Edited by: CineMaven on Sep 8, 2010 7:31 AM - Looking at some clips from YouTube on Thelma Todd, I see I have made a unforgivable mistake in not seeing her films that day.

  2. > The HEIGHTS of Wuthering Spoilage

    > SPOILED WUTHERS

    > WUTHERING SPOILERS!

The wutherings are in bloom again. Such a delicate spoilage, suitable for every occasion.

Gimme a viskey, Liam on the side. And don? be stingeeeee baby!

  3. Hi Madame Cutter - "...Oh wait, Ernie's off the hook, I was thinking of Burt Young. Which

then makes me wonder, why did he (Burt, not Ernie) have a career.?

Burt Young had a career because...because...okay. I?ll bite.

Hello Boca Queen - ?I never saw Kim in FALCON CREST, but I'm guessing she played

a bee-itch. I hate seeing her that way. I like her sweet, needy, and slightly enigmatic.?

?Lew is boyish-looking yet mature, sweet-natured and caring though firm, sexy but never coarse, cuddly, serious, and utterly reliable. He's a bit of a square, too. So, from my per-

    spective, what's not to love??

Love both of your pithy comments. You get to the point and boil these personalities down to their essence. Love it. Is Kim the new Garbo? And do you write for the Sears catalogue?

"I don't think I've seen a Robert Aldrich non-gorgon, male movie like THE DIRTY DOZEN, for example. Unless maybe Coral Browne plays a sargeant.?

Oh geeez, you've wiped me out again! Dammmmit :D

  4. > "Get your filthy hands off me!"

LOL!!!! Why the heck do you make me bust out laughing? We'd have been in trouble in school together.

    > "I learn from the best (Lew Ayres)"

Please...'splain me your love of Lew Ayres...and forgive me if you've already done so on the Board. I didn't see it.

If I had my druthers...I'd like to rip that wig off of Stanwyck in "Double Indemnity" like Patty Duke did Susan Hayward in "Valley of the Dolls." Love Jennifer Jason Leigh's narration of Stanwyck. Hell, I love Stanwyck.

Jackaaaay...you can't even look at Glenn??

  5. G'Morning Musical Novelty: "I'm sure your excellent comments on this movie are going to make all those who missed it want to see it..."

And Happy Labor Day to one and all. The temperature has dropped a bit this morning as I make my way to the laundromat. Feels like going back to school weather. How does Mother Nature know it's time for school??? M.N., I always forget that imdb shows films. Thanxx for the reminder. If I thought my comments could sway anybody...the Message Board Code of Conduct would have been changed years ago instead of now.

Madame Cutter, you and Hawks are undoubtedly right. And I'd agree. But lack of acting never stopped me from enjoying a movie personality. I thought she was pretty effective as the dea ex machina for Hermie's "development." (How d'ya like that Bronxie...I used one of your words. I

    learn at your feet Queenie).

  6. Gee...I haven't seen "THE DARK MIRROR" in many many years. I'd love to see DeHavilland bad & mean. I remember the good wallop she gave Bette Davis in "Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte."

Just a saw a fan perspective by a gentleman named David Bright, which was very touching and moving.

Now...let me get down to brass tacks here: "A COLD WIND IN AUGUST."

    WOW!!!!!!!!!!

What the hey...this movie had EVERYthing!! It was touching, it was hot, it was lurid, it was sexy...

the movie was quite frank (I heard terms like "knocked up" and "pregnant." I was pleasantly in shock!) And it ended all too typically.

First off though, if Scott Marlowe was a seventeen year old boy, then I'm Albert Schweitzer. That was the only little "****" I gave the movie. Oh yeah...other than Scott Marlowe and the other "boys" didn't look like they EVER played stickball in their lives. (As a native Noo Yawker, I wasn't convinced). Everything else I bought - hook, line and sinker. Lola Lola Lola. She was sumthin' else. I never really paid a lot of attention to her in films, but I'll have to look out for her now. I thought she gave a wonderful performance. She feeds him ice cream, builds up his sexual confidence. That first close-up kiss of theirs was hot. She lusts after this manchild and then gets strung out over him. Was that Herschel Bernardi as her friend. He didn't compare well to Marlowe. Why would a woman want Herschel when she could have a fit young thing like Scott. I was convinced of Marlowe's first time in love; and at his shock at finding out she was a stripper. He sees her first-hand. The outfit she wore, with the cat-eye mask was wild. She reminded me of a demented CatWoman. His pain, and shame and anger were palpable. He got all dewey eyed. I think he threw up.

When the dynamics of their relationship changed, that's when I got annoyed. I liked Lola being in control...in charge. She wore spandex, gold lame. The playing field was very uneven between her and this kid. When she tried to make amends, she's dressed in an outfit Laura Petrie would wear. But that wasn't enough for Marlowe. No, our boy has become a man now...and...well, you know.

I guess the moral of the story is when a woman falls in love, she loses control.

"Summer of '42" "Love & Pain (And the Whole Damn Thing)" and "The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone" follows the theme tonight of Older Woman/Younger Man. I thought "Summer..." was sweet and Jennifer O'Neill so pretty (if anachronistically dressed). The boy who's in love with her was such a cutie pie. And I was totally in love with Timothy Bottoms back in the 70's.

But the highlight of my TCM evening is "A Cold Wind in August." I had never heard of this film before and was glad I watched it. Didn't art imitate life...wasn't Scott Marlowe married to Ann Sheridan?
