  1. Je suis ici!!!!! So don't try it, Bub! Now Mann up Ollie. Can you recommend any Anthony Mann films for me to see: http://www.filmforum.org/films/mann.html#625 I was going to see "The Naked Spur" and "Winchester 73" today, but an editing assignment that I must complete...and have been working on since last night got in the way, so I reluctantly had to cancel out a good time at the movies. Drat!!! No.....double-drat. :-(
  2. Oh nooooooooooooooooooo. Quick, I'll try and change the subject in the next coupla days, when I talk about the Mann films I've seen. Yikes!
  3. ?Anyone familiar with Two O'Clock Courage, airing 6-30 @ 6am ET?? - < MR6X4 > I don?t know it (but then again I barely know Mann). But at 66-mins., hey, it?s worth a look-see. Let's see the genesis of this director's career. ?No...I'm ashamed to say I never told that woman...? - < JACKFAVELL > Your recounting of the tale made me laugh at loud, Jackaaaay. Awmigawd, that sounds like a morals and ethics test that, well...but I?m sure you?ve made up for that since by doing good works for other film buffs. Right? Ro...you are too funny.
  4. "Just call me Klutz Favell. And don't let me near any of those fancy city type movie thee-ay-ters. I will just embarrass you...." - < JACKFAVELL > Well Jack, I won't feel embarassed, but if you don't mind me laughing my head off...come on over to NY and let's catch a movie. I'll warn you of impending steps or fancy lighting along the aisle. But be warned...I don't share my movie candy.
  5. HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! Hey, the Film forum is a classy joint. I've never stepped on chewing gum there or anything.
  6. YAY!!! Esther Williams. I've always liked her. Sue Sue, great pictures of Ann Sheridan. Whew! Texas gal...and her eyes. Wow! The eyes of Texas are upon you when you look at those shots. Nice!
  7. That looks yummy, MovieMan. Ssssssshhhhhhh...Ro, I think I'm going to sneak my own candy into the theatre.
  8. Well, my latest musing is in the Western thread: "MANN'S BEST FRIEND...IS HIS MOVIES." I needed suggestions about which Anthony Mann films are must-sees at an upcoming festival here in NYC. ( http://forums.tcm.com/jive/tcm/thread.jspa?threadID=153951&start=15&tstart=0 ) Perhaps you have a suggestion you might offer. But if you do...make a good case for it. WELCOME BACK!! Here's hoping you stay a while. :-)
  9. WHAT??? 9,000? A picture is worth a thousand words they say. Alas and alack...I only have the words. C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S, FRANKIE GRIMES for your landmark 9,000. Rome wasn't built in a day and neither was your achievement. I always look for your posts and enjoy reading them.
  10. No ma'am, it's not too late for your recommendation. "THE NAKED SPUR" was touted by Frankie G and MovieMan, so you're in good company. The Mann series starts on Friday, and I've made my list along with who suggested what so I'll know who to respond to. I've got a list of fourteen and I'll do my darnedest to see 'em all and get back to you guys. That's a lotta movies without butter on the popcorn. Thanx for the foto. The guy on the right with the mustache makes me think of Alan Alda.
  11. Monsieur Lafitte????? Is that YOU? How ARE you? How the heck have you been??
  12. < Sigh! > Esther Williams. She, like Doris Day, makes me smile. I always thought she was so pretty, very athletic and a really likeable actress: "Andy Hardy's Double Life" "Bathing Beauty" "Easy to Wed." And you got to see her in person. < Sigh! > Nice.
  13. "All right, I just watched Devil's Doorway. I'm not sure if you've seen that one or not, Lively Gal, but that's a must-see film for you. It's stunning. I usually don't cry with Mann films, but I cried at the end of it." - < FRANK GRIMES > Ro-ro...don't be too hard on Frank. Let's give the devil his due...after all, he did watch the movie. Tears? Well that's quite an endorsement, Frankie G. Thank you!! The film is double-featured with "BORDER INCIDENT" next Wednesday. So let me get this straight...I have to be prepared to have my memory seared AND my tear ducts tested? Whew!!! Wednesday is going to be an emotionally interesting movie afternoon for me. Well...I asked for it.
  14. May I second that emotion re: Lon Chaney Jr. < Hubba Hubba >
  15. "Don't ask a dying man to lie his soul into hell." One of my favorite line in movies.
  16. "Is it me or just my money.... I'll buy you this and buy you that If you be good to me, I'll even rent a cottage and present you with the key... So if you marry me...and be my sweet senora........."
  17. Just watched "The Other Side of Midnight" and saw Clu.
  18. You, again, are making realize the mammoth undertaking TCM took on to put this festival together. They really put on the ritz in everything they did to make it a total movie-going experience!!! Thank you for your vivid descriptions, Suex2. Club TCM sounds fantastic!!!!
  19. "For you, CinemAva, 'THE FURIES'....I believe you'd eat it up. Lady Barbara Stanwyck in one of her most relished roles and she's toe to toe with Walter Huston at his most crafty, charming and wicked. For a little bit of soul and to remind you some people have a heart, there is the wonderful Gilbert Roland. Wrapped up in uber-noirish cinematography and pitched to an operatic key, it's all right up your alley." Will you please forgive me for a (possible) breach in cyber 'netiquette by quoting you here from another thread? I have a date with him on July 6th at the Film Forum. I know he's not long in the film, but wanted to let you know, I look forward to taking him in. By the by, does Roland have a picture of Dorian Grey in his closet? If he's starting out his career with one of the Talmadge sisters, I must say, he looked very very good long long into his career.
  20. Please do...Frances Gifford was so delicately wonderful in it.
  21. Jackaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaay. You and Madame Cutter both are suggesting "BORDER INCIDENT" for this poor sorry excuse of a Maven, to see. And I totally thank you both for that. Reading your reasons below felt like I was already watching the movie. How the heck did you do that? Your words are very vivid and it's putting my butt in the seat right now...but I'll have to wait until next Wednesday. Besides, the Film Forum isn't open this early anyway. Tall, dark, handsome leading man...ha! Girl, puhleeeze, what's not to like about that. George Murphy seared into your memory...this I gotta see. I always thought he was kind of milque- toasty. I guess I kind of underestimate Murphy in his movie career, but I must admit, I wound up really liking his character in a movie Miss G. turned me onto "THE ARNELO AFFAIR." Maybe Murphy's the kind of actor that sneaks up on a maven. Well, I'm prepared to have my memory seared. "Border Incident has the most stunning deep focus, deep contrast noir cinematography by John Alton. The unbeatable combination of Alton and Mann is probably the main reason to see it. It's gorgeous! It's filmed so beautifully, with such incredible set ups, that it sucks you into that world. You are there." Well I am there thanks to Madame Cutter's suggestion and your description. Nope, I didn't get the tense wrong. I AM there. Thank you Jackaaaaaaay F. Time is precious...thanxx for sharing some of it with me.
  22. " 'THE FURIES' is the most 'CineMaven' of the Mann films I have seen. Walter Huston and Barbara Stanwyck are full-throttle." Ahhhhhh, my little night owl has weighed in. Good day Grimesy, me boy. You've used my cyber-moniker as an adjective (or is that an adverb or verb? Help me out folks...I don't want to make another Dusty Springfield/Jackie DeShannon mistake). And for 'CineMavening' it that way, I say "WHOA!!!" Going full-throttle is just my speed having ridden a motorcycle for six years back in the...so "The Furies" is on my list. (You are aware that you just agreed with Miss G., right? There might be hell to pay for that...) Dare I give the mature Coop a chance in "Man Of the West"??? He has kind of 'aw shucks' me for so long, I'm a little burnt. But if you really say he puts on a show... Hmm."Winchester..." A weasly, scruffy Dan Duryea ofttimes gets my attention, infuriatingly so...but he makes me look to see what he's up to, and check for my wallet. Dude I know I've got to branch out, but I can't go out on that limb with the "...Little Acre." It makes me think of "Purlie Victorious." I could be wrong, but I've been wrong before. (Hey didn't I just confuse Dusty with Jackie D)? Seeing Mary Beth Hughes...well THAT IS A GIVEN. I'm with you there. (Von Stroheim is a candidate for that follically-challenged thread idea that was bandied about elsewhere). Wait, Duryea's weasled his way with Mary Beth. Oh...a two-fer. Sooooooooo...Monday at 1:30pm... that's early enough for both MaryBeth and I to escape the snark of the hipsters. Oh Flamarion...Flamarion????? Thank you so much for your time and suggestions, Mr. Grimes. I appreciate it.
  23. Howdy thar Movieman. Thank you so much for your suggestion. You are positively clairvoyant. How did you know I love my Ryan, evil. You've 'spurred' me on. "NAKED SPUR" I'm there. Thank you.
  24. I really wish TCM could come up with a schedule earlier next time around. What's playing would help determine if I want to spend those hard earned nickels and dimes of mine. Ha....not to mention the pennies, too.
  25. Thank you Mr. Baetz for your suggestions that will help this cinemaven stay on point in her status of BEING a Maven. (1). Marvelous closeups (2). Vengeance-seeking and... (3). (Bad Girl) Claire Trevor <sigh> are enough good solid reasons to squeeze my butt into those teensy tiny seats of the Film Forum. Thank you Sir, for taking the time to make these points and suggestions.
