SCSU...did you bring up this post??
-
That's tellin' him folks. Excellently said. It's things like that that made America what it is. Ugh! Say...who is this swngsoul?
-
I've heard the same about Joseph Cotten and Linda Darnell. Does it really matter?
-
"GILDA." Just the name is magic. (Yeah, there was Gilda Radner...but somehow it's not the same). I always thought that what was missing in "Gilda" was the writer not exploring the subtext of the relationship between Glenn Ford and George Macready. Now that's the real story but I guess Hollywood wasn't ready to explore that. I can't describe the effect of seeing Rita Hayworth; it's a wholly visceral effect. Rita Hayworth has etched her name in eternity by playing that role. She is utterly and simply The Goddess of the movies.

"Thirteen Ghosts" I saw it when it came out and I HATE canopy beds to this day!! Message was edited by: CineMaven:Let me add "Night of the Living Dead" and "The Haunting." Oooh chilling!
-
Damn I blew it. I thought it was a biography of Vice President Dick Cheyney's wife. Crap!!
-
Surely you can do your old Cinemaven a flavor and show us a picture of Godfrey Cambridge as a Caucasian (in "Watermelon Man.")??
-
Thank you. How 'bout Katharine Hepburn, Luise Rainer and Anna May Wong then?
-
:-) :-) Okay...okay. Say, giving the people what they want...isn't that over in the "Asian Images in Films" thread???
-
Gardenia and Albright??? Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...SCSU, there will be a special place for you in the hereafter. WHEW!!
-
Great story. Olivia was lucky she was on the set when she did that and NOT in his dressing room. She'd have a veddy different story to tell. Wow...I didn't know DeHavilland was such a naughty minx! ;-)
-
Hmmm...Jan!! Good choice. "Slaughter on Tenth Avenue" "Johnny Belinda" "Female on the Beach" "Ace in the Hole." Great unsung actress. See folks, doesn't this show to go ya...there are enough classic film stars to fill a programmer's dance card. We don't need to resort to today's movies and movie stars. LONG LIVE CLASSIC FILMS!! Will be enjoying Rosalind Russell this month. A dark beauty, she was.

BxGirl 6/25 9:56:"CineMaven, your post just blew me away! I devoured it like candy, and I'll keep it as a great reference guide.Bravo, A plus, A plus, A plus!!!!!!" CMaven 6/26/ 3:14am:"Bronxgirl-Your words mean more to me than you'll ever know. I humbly thank you!" BxGirl 6/27 9:36am:"CineMaven, you're making this poster blush. Heaping praise on the likes of me no less, who looks forward to the drek more than the real classics..." CMaven 6/29 4:43am: Yes you. Give me example of what 'drek' you like. MISSGODDESS: "I doubt I will even be let into the class when the teachers hear for the 80th time the dog ate my homework." The dog??? I think I know that dog...send your homework by mail; I don't want to miss any of it.

Prince, your list of horror was great. Wow!!
-
MissGoddess:"Very nicely done. I can see you are going to be President of the Summer School class. Pass me those candy ciggies, Frank. Lady B, did you bring the class any donuts? Don't forget I only like glazed plain and chocolate glazed." I see you're going to be a very easy grader...yippee!!! Frank I'll take the wax lips instead and Lady B., make mine jelly! Can't wait. And thanxxx so much for the compliment!!

This is news to me. I can see it though. The trajectory of many careers would be different for so many in Hollywood. What might have been...what might have been.
-
Molo, I believe you've made an excellent excellent and accurate observation. Think about Mitchum. Erroll was one of a kind. As I've said elsewhere, I keep forgetting about the chemistry he had with the lovely Olivia DeHavilland.

Edward Scissorhands would be proud of her. You know what I'm tawkin' about. -
Aaaaaaaah Violets!!! You just brought me back...waaay back to "Adventures in Paradise." Aaaaaaah!!! He was handsome, wasn't he?
-
Lafitte-Thank you. Your comments are flattering & make me realize (again) that being a School Secretary is not what I was meant to be. I'm too much of a coward to pursue my real passion. Frank-Yeah I cheated. My passion for films cannot be contained. RainingViolets-Nice list. Your comments are wonderfully succinct. Bronxgirl-Your words mean more to me than you'll ever know. I humbly thank you! TripleHHH[/i]-I know your intention was for us to list just one film. But I absolutely could not resist. Once my passion for film gets aroused...it's a bear to stop. Thanks for the wonderful topic.

Don't Believe The "ILoveRayMilland" IMPOSTER!
CineMaven replied to ILoveRayMilland's topic in General Discussions
I suggest you get your mom to have him cease and desist before a report is made to the TCM PROGRAMMER (or he reads comments no "13-year old" should read). -
"Who knows why this sort of thing happens." You're right Chandler...how do we measure why this person and not that one. This is why show business is sort of like cotton candy. Reasons and logic melt in thin air. Jean Simmons, especially in "Spartacus" was as beautiful as Vivien Leigh, Hedy Lamarr, Elizabeth Taylor or Audrey Hepburn. (Funny in "The Grass is Greener" too).

Thanxxx for the list. I didn't remember. What can I say... I'm old. Thanx!! Ingrid Bergman breaks my heart. -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAop8dnGdNo&feature=related I keep forgetting about his great screen chemistry with Olivia DeHavilland.
