  1. Horse-Boy: "Hey, watch it. Ms. Hayes has much better-looking eyebrows." Easy...easy on Kim's eyebrows. ^ ^ She didn't exactly look like Groucho...from the neck down. Lafitte: "Still, I would like a little forest in my 'Vertigo', thank you...'Vertigo' demands so much more, it is wrought with emotion etc., it seems to require a little more versimilitude with reality because of what it puts us through. Just me. Don't worry...I know that "Vertigo" and "Rear Window" are apples and oranges. But I think that because "Vertigo" is so emotionally draining, verisimilitude can be gently bent; we're thinking through our heart and desires here...not the steel trap of our minds. And I think the breaking down and picking apart of "Vertigo" is the trees...not the forest. Just me. ;-) Now about Martha Hyer...
  2. Morning Frankie. I won't torture you like the others; they're just being mean to you. Now me...I just want to ask you a question...or your opinion: I'm watching "Some Came Running" as I get ready for another day in the 9-to-5 salt mines. Why d'ya s'pose Hitchcock didn't get a hold of Martha Hyer?? She was attractive, believable actress, had the ice-princess thing going on (a la your girl Gracie) and she was a blonde.
  3. NCF: "McCain has to be laughing at the Democrats - they are fighting each other instead of fighting McCain." As a Democrat, I'd agree. But after the official nominee is picked, the "regular" election will be very anti-climatic. Now, let's have a thread to vote for the "worst President ever to win an election."
  4. Frankie: "I've never seen Suddenly, Last Summer but I know "Ma Iselin" is the coldest mama on the block." Things are shakin' fine on this end of the U.S. of A. As for Ma Iselin...I don't know her or the film. Something I should see??? I love lethal ladies. (See "Suddenly Last Summer." Elizabeth in the bathing suit is quite a sight to behold). Gotta go defend "Vertigo" on another thread.
  5. M14: "I guess your mom wasn't one to fool around. It's similar to the "great vinyl meltdown of 1977" when my Mom moved my entire record collection next to the boiler in the basement as a punishment. All my original LP's were so much hot wax after that. (She claimed it was an accident)" Oooooh, that sounds much worse. I came home and all my stuff was gone. You came home and you see black molten lava that used to be 33 1/3s. Guess we ought to go to the 'Moms' thread and kvetch there. Getting back on topic, Vivien Leigh did an incredible job in the role of the century. And Gable's not only dreamy, he's a real man's man. When he carried Scarlett up the stairs...when he cried over his daughter's death...when he roguishly smiled at the bottom of the staircase and when he didn't "give a damn" I was his forever. "Kiss me Scarlett. Kiss me...once." Whew! Sends shivers up me spine seventy years later. How is that possible. Oh...'cuz it was Gable and Leigh.
  6. Aaah "Strangers When We Meet." Always enjoyed that film and "No Down Payment." I've read Kirk and Kim didn't quite get along during the filming, but they made a deliciously hot couple. (I was disturbed by Kirk's crewcut though. Kim Novak more than made up for it). Love those screen caps!!!!!
  7. Hello, MissGoddess: "Madame Constantin in Notorious - do they come any tougher? A clear case of as soon as you see the Mother you then understood why the son was the way he was." Hi, FrankGrimes: "It's hard to top Mama Sebastian in Hitchdom. She's tough as nails." Cinemaven: "Well, I'd like to introduce Madame Constantin to Angela Lansbury in "The Manchurian Candidate." Or how about Katharine Hepburn in "Suddenly, Last Summer." No wonder some men are so...
  8. Hello there Fred: "The biggest problem with the plot is that Elster did NOT need Scottie or Judy at all, since he was able to slip into the bell tower, while dragging his wife, without being seen by anyone. He was able to push her out of the tower without being seen by anyone. And he was able to escape without being seen by anyone. So he DID NOT need Scottie or Judy at all." Aaaah, the battle over "Vertigo" rages on. Let me add these points, if I may. On one level, Elster may NOT have needed Scottie; as you say, Elster was able to pull off his murderous shenanigans: "without being seen by anyone." But the police usually go after the husband, when a wife winds up dead, no? He's usually the suspect. I believe Elster wanted to really sell the idea that his wife committed suicide. "See, I have a witness." "And you are right, his ?scheme? was so far out, so complex, and so bizarre, he was bound to ?slip up? with such a complicated scheme, and that?s what actually did happen in the end. Judy staying in San Francisco was idiotic." Idiotic? Perhaps...but I believe Judy fell in love with Scottie while she was Madeleine. Also, she probably figured that Scottie would never recognize her in her brunette/Allison Hayes-look. A woman in love. Whaddya want? "HARRY!!!!" "And for Scottie to take Judy -- dressed up and made up to look like Madeleine -- into bars and restaurants where Elster had taken Madeleine -- and where both were well-known -- was just really stupid, especially after everyone who knew Madeleine knew that she was supposed to be dead." As a "VERTIGO" lover, I must admit you've made a very very good point here. But Elster took it on the lamb after the inquest and check it out...Scottie never got the chance to parade around with his deceased date becuz he saw the necklace and started to put pieces together. Monsieur Lafitte: "The questions is, wouldn?t the movie be better if it had a more compelling story?" I think FrankGrimes did an excelllllent analysis of "Vertigo" last year, and I'm a fan of the film. I guess what I'm saying is that some folks find "Vertigo" a glass half-full. There are others here who find that some can't see the forest for the trees. I prefer Hitchcock's trees. A film about obsession, betrayal, desire, longing and perhaps unconsciously wanting to be caught. Go pick on "Rear Window."
  9. Let's see who's McCain's running mate. Maybe it'll be somebody younger?? P.S. I laughed!
  10. E-z, e-z Micketeeeeeeeze on Kay. You're talking about BaBa WaWa. Message was edited by: CineMaven-Corrected my mis-spelling.
  11. I don't know if this is coming onto DVD yet...but it was one of my very favorite DEBORAH KERR movies. Nicely cast w/Hayley & John Mills and Edith Evans. I haven't seen it in years.
  12. Thank you...I just couldn't remember the title...and I feel it's cheating to go onto IMDB. Thanxx again.
  13. HA!! LOL! ;-) Touche. Well you're a-okay in my book!
  14. You certainly are a meanie to titter at the plight of a little baby. Mostly, the audience I saw the film with said, "Awww $hit!!" One of Dracula's "wives" was played by the unbelievably stunning MONICA BELLUCCI."
  15. HA!! Your friend has good taste...even if it's by mistake 'cuz (s)he didn't know the name of that guy. I used to keep a messy bedroom back as a teenager. And I was warned by my mom to straighten up or she'd throw my things away. I didn't straighten up the room... And that was the Big Sweep of 1967. My mom threw away tons of movie memorabilia including my newspaper clippings of the passing of Vivien Leigh. UGH!!! Mothers!
  16. I don't know the little boy...but that little cutie pie looks like Doris Day.
  17. Wasn't Gilligan's Ginger also in "God's Little Acre"??
  18. Hi...if I might reply, at first I thought Mary Beth played the maid. I know it was the wonderful Virginia Grey who was the wise-cracking salesgirl who was busting Crawford's chops while she was on the phone. So I cheated and looked it up. Mary Beth Hughes played the notary. Now, I've gotta catch this movie again, for the 28th time... ;-)
  19. W H O T H E H E C K W A S I T T H A T S A I D B R A N D O W A S N ' T T H A T G O O D - L O O K I N G A M A N?????????????????? Thank you for posting the pictures below. Vivien Leigh's girlhood pictures makes me think of Elizabeth Taylor as a child. Beautiful.
  20. I thought "EVE'S BAYOU" would be a good companion film to "To Kill A Mockingbird." They should NOT re-do "Casablanca" or GWTW". BTW...off-topic, but are you lzencyclopedia??? HUHHH??
  21. Well, I'm trying to get a hang of the SSO interface, but I'll be there. I think Kay Francis has the most beautiful smoky eyes in show business. I want an umbrella in my drink, please.
  22. She had one of the prettiest smiles in Hollywood. (The lovely FRANCES DEE was another actress whose smile just makes you...smile. Excuse the blasphemy, but look at today's Jennifer Garner. What a smile!) What a beautiful woman Vivien Leigh was. She was great! I think her role as Scarlett was one of the greatest female roles in motion picture history. Truly a sad end.
